DaywithKT

Almost 3 years ago I wrote my first blog post and I didn’t have a clue what I was doing.

I started this blog with the idea of documenting my daily 43s and I did exactly that for a year.  When I turned 44 I decided to keep going with the daily moves so I did a daily 44.  Screen Shot 2015-05-31 at 7.40.05 PMIn less than 2 weeks I will hit 1000 consecutive days of daily moves (now I’m doing daily 45s)and I will continue the daily moves at least until I turn 46.

Over the past few years I have come to love my little part of the blog world.  I’ve written posts that make me laugh, some that make me cry and lots of random ones.

The first time someone left a comment was such an exciting day!!  I realized that there was so much more to blogging than just writing posts and hitting publish.

Blogging soon turned into one of my favorite hobbies and it was all because of the incredible people that I met and started developing relationships with.

I tried to always remember that relationships are based on trust so I have always been 100% me on my site and all of the sites I read and comment on.  I know that all of my blog friends feel the same way and are authentic on their sites and with comments.

I really do feel like my blog friends are as much my friends as my friends that I see in person because we share so many aspects of our lives.

The relationships and friendships are what I will miss the most as I step away from Day-with-KT  for now and really invest myself in our business(es).

I plan to keep my Bloglovin’ feed and will read blogs when I can but don’t know if I will have any more posts here (other than updating my daily 45 page).  This has been a hard decision but I think it is the right choice at this point.

If we aren’t already friends on FB please send me a request Kim Griffin Turner – I would love to be able to keep up at least a little.  I also share random pictures on Instagram – daywithkt and love to see other people’s equally random pictures.

I don’t have the words to truly express how much I have enjoyed these past years – THANK YOU all for reading my blog and allowing me to get to know you!!!

Happy Monday!!!

This & That (including a new business!)

Well, it’s been awhile since I spent any time in the blog world.  I miss reading and catching up with all of my awesome blog friends!!!

The past few weeks have been full with all sorts of exciting events.

Chris and I went to the Dining Out (military ball/adult prom).  Always fun to get all dressed up!!!

We also hosted the Concealed Reveal – art auction that the YWCA does for the battered women’s shelter – such an incredible event!!!

Sadly, one of our tenants had to move out very quickly and unexpectedly.  Fortunately we were able to rent the apartment in 1 week!!!  It’s super cute – my favorite of the 3 apartments.

The boys are almost done with another school year  (only 8 more days!!!).   Lots of concerts, programs and, of course, tests!!!  (and then both boys will be high schoolers!!!!)

And……we are in the process of starting a new business!!!  Meetings, planning, talking, research  and fears are all taking shape for my next big venture.

This building doesn’t look like a lot right now –

But I have huge plans that include new flooring (no more commercial carpeting), removal of the weird wall things and opening the ceiling to revel this awesome raised tin ceiling –

This business will be a retail venture – everything you need for a wedding (or any big event) all in one location – all offered through consignment.

After almost 2 years of running an event venue I know there is a need for a local place to buy and sell the decorations and other items needed for a big event that only get used once!!!

So, we are opening…Your Special Day.  This will be a store that you can walk into and feel like you are in an upscale shopping place with a personal shopping experience.

We also want to include any and all vendors that people need for weddings (or other big events) and give them a space to display some of their product/work.

The idea is all-in-one shopping/planning for your wedding or any big event/party.

So, my blogging might be Screen Shot 2015-05-12 at 8.29.17 PMfor awhile but I hope to get back to it more consistently at some point!!!

(I have been doing my daily 45s still even though I haven’t posted any  in weeks!!!

How are things with you?

Happy Wednesday!!!

Do You Live in a Walking Town?

People run, bike and walk in our neighborhood but very few people  in Topeka walk as a means of transportation.

Screen Shot 2015-04-30 at 8.13.15 PM

People who work downtown walk a little more but the rest of the time it is rare to see anyone walking just to get someplace.

Wednesday morning I had to take Chris’ car to the Ford place for some work.  I decided I would just walk home because it was a gorgeous morning.

Screen Shot 2015-04-30 at 8.21.21 PM

After I dropped off the car the guys at the desk asked if I needed a ride.  I told them I was just planning to walk home.

They didn’t know what to do.  One of the guys gave me his card so that I could call if I got tired!!!  What?!  I’m a LONG distance runner!!!

Screen Shot 2015-04-30 at 8.36.38 PM

It made me laugh!  I told him that I regularly run ultras and hoped I could handle walking 5.5 miles.  I’m not sure he knew what to think.

The best part is I have to take the car back today (Friday)  for new tires and I’m planning to walk home again because it was such a nice walk!!!

Do you ever walk as a means of transportation?
I’ve always thought it would be nice to live someplace where everyone walked – maybe I will start doing it more often and see if it catches on here!!

Happy Friday!

The Courage to be Different

In my previous life (before I had kids), I taught middle school science and coached volleyball, basketball and track at the middle school.

Screen Shot 2015-04-28 at 8.31.27 PM

I know that most teens and preteens want to fit in with all of their peers. Screen Shot 2015-04-28 at 8.37.14 PM I think it is refreshing to see kids that aren’t afraid to be a little different and do their own thing!!
Screen Shot 2015-04-28 at 8.36.39 PMActually, I think that even adults struggle with being different sometimes.  I see people trying to put everyone in a little bubble instead of embracing the differences that make us all unique.

I spent many years of my life afraid to stand out.  Now, I’m perfectly happy to be me and hope that my boys will always have the courage to be themselves.

Screen Shot 2015-04-28 at 8.37.29 PMSometimes being yourself means a teenager who is willing to play with boxes –

Sometimes being a little different is a 46 year old dad showing his sons his moves –

A little courage goes a long way!!!

Today I’m linking up with Deb (Deb Runs) for the Wednesday Word which is courage.

Deb Runs

When is the last time you did something that required courage?

Happy Wednesday!!!

Not all Steps Have to be Giant Ones

This is not a sponsored post but it is about something that I 100% believe.

I tend to get wrapped up in new goals and plans and think that I have to get it done immediately which rarely works out because I can’t drop everything else to focus on the “new” thing!!!

2 phenomenal women and bloggers – Carla Birnberg and Roni Noone published a book that came out recently – Screen Shot 2015-04-26 at 9.20.20 PM

The concept behind this book is simple – do what you can when you can because small things will add up to big things over time!!!

Screen Shot 2015-04-26 at 9.20.49 PM

It is so easy to get wrapped up in life and feel like everything has to be done a certain way to a certain standard.  Sometimes those standards become overwhelming and we end up not doing anything.

However, if we live by the “what you can, when you can” motto we will take a lot of pressure off of ourselves and probably end up achieving much more in the process!!!

Don’t you love the idea of reaching your goals by taking small steps that fit into your lifestyle?

Happy Monday!!!

Kim
