A 43 with a bit of everything…

Today I used my BOSU for the daily 43.  You know I love my BOSU!!!

BOSU
BOSU

I used it for some lower body work (totally not following DRs orders  ) but I also worked my core, my balance and got my heart rate up – total win on the 43!!!

One of my favorite 43s so far:

  • Start with both feet on the BOSU
  • Step forward with the right foot into a front lunge and hold
  • Step right foot back onto BOSU – squat and hold
  • Step right foot backwards into a reverse lunge and hold
  • Step right foot back onto BOSU – squat and hold

The above is 1 rep.  I did all 43 with my right leg moving and then switched and did 43 more with my left leg.  (Quick math – 86 lunges/leg + 174 total squats on the BOSU)

The following video is more for entertainment than to demonstrate the move!!! Hunter struggled with this move but I didn’t have the heart to ask him just to record me.

(Jordan clearly enjoyed this enough to stop playing on the computer  long enough to watch and laugh!)

I know the date is old but this is sort-of how I feel when some of the kids ask me about finding a  certain book – duh, uh, um…? (clearly I’m not familiar with the library yet!)

I have sanitized my hands till they are about raw this week.  Working at a primary (preschool – 3rd grade) school is a total germ-fest for sure!!! Screen shot 2012-12-18 at 6.59.40 PM

I’m excited about another day of fun!  Hope y’all all have fun on the agenda today!

Happy Wednesday!

No Pain, No Gain – Right?

I hope I don’t need to walk a lot later today (or sit, or stand, or…)!! The 43 totally kicked my butt – literally!!!  I also felt it in my quads and some in my hamstrings!!!

I did a variation on a workout that I pinned on Pinterest yesterday called the Designer Whey Glute Workout.  If you check out their version you will see that they did not do 43 reps so I had to adapt!!

Here is how I did my 43 with this workout.

  • 43 squats
  • 43 lunges with right leg forward
  • 43 stomps (right leg forward, hands on ground, left leg back – bring left foot front and set flat next to right foot, drop your butt, extend left leg again) – Killer!!
  • 43 Cook hip-lifts (place right heel close to butt, pull left knee to chest – lift and lower hips, like a bridge)
That was 1 complete set.  The 2nd set was the same but with the left leg.  3rd set was right leg again and 4th set left leg.

(For the demo I only did 5 reps on 1 side – no need for you to watch me killing myself!!!)

I thought about only doing 2 sets but in the actual work-out they said 4 sets (of 20 only!!!!) so I figured I should  push myself (HARD) and do  all 4 sets.  Maybe now I will have a “designer butt”!!

I’m sure by tonight I will regret my decision but who knows – maybe all the trips I have to make up-and-down the stairs to do the laundry today will help work out the soreness and shakiness!

Yesterday when Chris got home from Drill I was sort-of cranky.  Solution:

Because Chris knows me well, he automatically goes to the ultra safe!!!  (he didn’t even have to see this cute little chart).

I think I will make a special dinner for my awesome guy!!! (the boys too, of course!)

Happy Sunday!

Home with Hunter

Sometimes when I pick the 43 for the day I think I’m a little off.  An exercise that is fine for a normal amount of reps often becomes painful by the time I hit 43!

Today I did a reverse lunge then I pulled the leg that lunged back up to a knee lift while I did a bicep curl to a shoulder press.  I held my knee up until I reversed the arms back to neutral and then lunged again.  Clear as mud?

For the demo, I only did 2 per side – don’t let that fool you!!!  After the video I did the real deal – 43 with my right  leg and then 43 with my left leg.  The real kicker was the fact that it ended up being 86 for my upper body (all with 10 pound dumbbells)!!!  Hmmm….should have thought about that a little more.  Oh, well – it’s good for me  to push myself!!!

The rest of today’s work-out was a run.  I did 9 miles in 55:47 (with 1.5 incline) then 2.5 more miles slower with a higher incline.  I actually really enjoy running on my treadmill – I have all sorts of games to entertain myself and increase my speed as I go.  I usually start at 7.5 (8:00 minutes/mile) and increase my speed from there.  I try to end with at least one 5:00 minute mile.

Hunter is home sick today.  :Weary:  At least he isn’t totally miserable – just running a fever and Tylenol has helped with that!!!  Hopefully a low-key day and he will be good as new!

This afternoon I’m subbing 4th grade – not sure what I was thinking taking a sub job the last day before  Thanksgiving break – Crazy!!!

Have a great Tuesday!!!

Working off the Clock

Lunges, lunges and more lunges!!!  Today’s 43 was all about the lunge! To make it more fun, I decided to work off the clock.  Start with a forward lunge with your right leg (to 12 o’clock).  With the same leg, lunge to the side (3 o’clock).  Lunge back with your right leg (6 o’clock).

There are lots of ways to make this even more challenging.  I chose to do 43  sets with the right leg and then 43 with the left leg.  You could alternate legs to make it a little easier. Also, once I started with my right leg I kept it going and did not tap my foot in between lunges or clock sets.  If you wanted to add in a  toe tap it would give you a little bit of a break. The most important thing is to watch that your knees don’t go over your toes.

129 consecutive lunges on each leg and my quads were BURNING!!!

After a couple of fast 10 minute walks with a friend I decided to hop on my treadmill again. I ran 5 miles in 30:50 then did 3.25 more miles at a much easier pace.

Have a great day!

Holiday Fun

I love holidays like today – Chris gets to be off so we can hang out!!!  He didn’t do my 43 with me but I guess that’s OK!

Today for the 43 I wanted to get my heart rate up since the rest of my work-out was weights.  I did 43 jumping lunges.  Not only did I get my heart rate up but my quads were BURNING!!!  Start in a standard lunge (watch your knees).  Push straight up and land in a lunge with the other leg.  Repeat to 43.

After lunges, I did Chalean Extreme Burn Circuit 3 – this one really works your shoulders and it also let me get in more lunges – score!!!

Chris and are off to play golf.  Always an experience because I’m really not a good golfer but it is a great way to hang out together!  I just try to make contact (most of the time).

Enjoy your holiday Monday!
