THINK

Today’s challenge for #happyfitmarch was to do 15 minutes of yoga.  Well, I don’t do a lot of yoga but I decided to combine a few things to meet the goal.

For my 44 I used a small wobble ball and stepped into Warrior II.

By holding in the down position and then pushing off of the ball of my foot to return to the start, I got a great quad workout!!!  And, of course, I had to do another set of 44 o my left leg.

After completing all of my reps here (about 5 minutes of yoga!), I did Jillian Micheals Yoga Meltdown, Level 1.  This took about 35 minutes so I got 40 minutes of yoga!!!

I also ran a nice easy 5K + 0.5 miles cool down.

The first time I saw this acronym was probably 5 years ago and I actually had it on my desk at work to remind me to THINK first, then speak.

However, over the past few years I have gotten out of the habit of using this before I speak (or write for that matter).

The T part is the easiest for me because I can’t tolerate lying.

The other letters are far more challenging and something I need to start reminding myself of daily (actually multiple times a day!!!).

Because I’m going to really work on using this before I speak/write I’m not going to say anything about the event we had last night other than the fact that it was a huge lesson learned.

Here is a picture of Chris and I during the event –

Notice anything different about Chris??  It is mustache March – the entire Air Force is supporting this – Good Times!!!

Do you THINK before you speak?

I feel like I will talk a lot less if I really apply the THINK rule before I speak!!!

Happy Wednesday!!!

Giving Something Up

Today’s 44 was a wall sit with alternating foot raises.

sit - goofy look helps
sit – startled  look helps (hands???)
raise right foot (YIKES!! Take the picture!!)
raise right foot
(YIKES!!)
raise left foot
raise left foot

These might be some of the “best” pictures yet if you want to see me look like a total dork.  5:00 am is early and I can’t spend much time worrying about how I look in  the pictures!!!

I counted a right lift and a left lift as 1 rep.  For fun I timed my wall sit while I did this – 2:35.

I was hoping to get in another 9 miles today but during mile 7 my Achilles started hurting quite a bit so I just finished that one and then did 1.5 nice and easy to try and stretch it out some.

We aren’t Catholic but after doing some research and talking to friends who are Catholic, I’ve learned that anyone can benefit from the act of giving something up for a period of time.  I also learned that if you are going to give something up it should be something that will be hard for you so that it really makes a difference.

Screen Shot 2014-03-04 at 9.11.33 PM

I picked something from the above list and if you have read my blog for awhile you might know which one of the things up there will be a hard one for me to give up.

good stuff!
good stuff!

I have decided to give up my evening cocktail/wine!!

“An experience of want, however temporary, can help us to appreciate the true abundance in our lives. And a small positive change can have a big impact that lasts beyond the 40 days of Lent.”  (Neela Kale)

So, this will be a challenge for me (I really enjoy my happy hour drinks!!) and I think that Chris is pretty sure I won’t really stick to the 40 days but I think it will also be a great experience!!!

Do you give anything up for Lent?

Happy Wednesday!!

#Mania #Frenzy #Overload

Today’s 44 was another compound move – I did a fast lunge to a knee up with a row.

After 44 on my right leg, I switched and did 44 more with my left leg.

I ran today – I’m hoping to get a bit more mileage this week (last week was down a little).  Today was 1.5% incline – 9 miles in 66:24 + 0.5 miles to cool down.

Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 6.52.22 AMSo, the boys and I have been joking around about hashtags this weekend.  I’m pretty slow on the social media front and just don’t understand the hundreds of hashtags that are everywhere!!!Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 6.54.51 AMI have only used hashtags a few times because I feel like I’m an idiot when I use them – I don’t really even know what they are for or why I need them.Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 6.53.29 AMHunter will respond to a text from me with #totes just because he knows it makes me laugh.  Jordan is like me – he doesn’t get the hashtag thing.  Maybe we need to take a class?!Screen Shot 2014-03-02 at 5.08.14 PMWhat are your thoughts on hashtags?  Do you use them/hate them/love them/get them?

Random Ramblings

Today’s 44 was great for balance work.  I did squats with a knee raise.

Start with a dumbbell on one shoulder –

ready - make sure you try to look bored!

stand and lift right knee

I did all 44 with the right side and then I moved the dumbbell to my left shoulder and did 44 more.

lift left knee

I love moves that provide some toning/strength work but also add in the balance challenge!!

Today was yet another day of Michelle Bridges.  I like the program but I don’t think that I will keep doing it every day – too hard to fit in all of the other workouts I want to do.

Some weeks I feel more scattered than others and some days my brain just runs a million directions – today it is all over the place so I thought it would be a great day for some…..

*  Thank you so much for all of the great advice on yesterday’s post!!  I feel like I have a plan and way to deal with both issues now!!!  (Side note:  the first couple actually called early this morning and want to meet me AGAIN this morning to “go over details.”  I told them that they can drop the contract and full payment in the mail drop and we can meet next week.  I had my day already planned and the payment does not have to be hand delivered – plus, I am not going to invest more time until they actually pay.)

*  Yesterday we got all the way to 45 degrees and some of the snow finally started melting!!!

look - you can see the grass!!! (even if it is brown)

*  I had my yearly physical on Wednesday and my DR filled out this Heart Quiz on me.  I WON!!!  Well, maybe those were my words and not hers but still she was impressed!  Screen Shot 2014-02-14 at 8.35.19 AMMy LDL and HDL were both 79 which she said is amazing!!  And my cholesterol was 158.

*  My office (dining room table – same thing, right?!) is a complete and utter mess all the time!!!

nice!
nice!

Good thing we eat on our kitchen table!!!

*  I’m thinking about starting a Bridal Bootcamp at our venue.  It wouldn’t be just for brides but the name is catchier that way!!!  I’m still working on details and ideas.

*  Valentine’s Day is mostly just another day to me.  My husband knows – I would far rather get a “mushy” card from him on some random day “just because” than a card on a day that society has turned into a commercial holiday!  (just my personal opinion)

*  Do you read the 3 Cheap Runners blog?

You should if you don’t – they always have some great stuff over there!  And today, you really should check it out because while they are sunning themselves on the beach in the Dominican (I’m not jealous – much!) – I’m guest posting!!

OK – enough rambling for one day!!

What is something random in your world right now?

Happy Friday!!!

How Do You Celebrate Special Days?

Today’s 44 was another move from Nellie (Brooklyn Active Mama) and her Weekly Wednesday Workouts.  This move is called a crab dip and Nellie said in her post yesterday that it’s not for the faint – she was definitely right about that!!!

The set-up is basically a reverse table top position –

ready
ready

From the table top position you lower your butt until it’s close to the ground (I never let it touch) – the work is going to come mostly from your triceps but my quads were feeling the burn by the end of all 44 reps.

lower

The last 6 or so were brutal!!!

Since I’m trying to work my way through some of the workout DVDs that I haven’t done lately, I pulled out another new one today – Skinny Bitch Fitness.  This is one of those workouts that really is a pretty good workout the cueing is completely absent – you just have to watch and figure out each new move.

The workout is mad up of 4 sections that are about 20 minutes each – abs, legs, arms and butt.  I do like the format – I just sort of tune Rory (instructor) and Kim (side-kick) out because they are pretty goofy!!!  It was a perfect workout for today since I wanted minimal cardio before tomorrow’s 37 miles!!!

So, yesterday was Kansas Day!  Ummm….I think it is the birthday of Kansas – I’m not really sure, I just know that all through elementary school January 29th is a big deal day (if you live in Kansas).

Since I’m not a Kansan (I just live here – but we all know I’m a Texan!!!) I don’t really do much to celebrate Kansas Day.  However, yesterday I thought it would be fun to make a special Kansas themed dinner.

Coming up with a Kansas themed menu was actually not that simple but here is what I ended up with:

Kansas City Barbecue Sauce (which, traditionally, is a combination of sweet and spicy) –

KC BBQ sauce (homemade) over wings
KC BBQ sauce (homemade) over wings

Corn (because people in Kansas grow corn)  and this recipe was from a true Kansan –

cream corn
cream corn

Buffalo Chips (we all know that the buffalo is the official Kansas animal –

spicy potatoes & wing sauce
spicy potatoes & wing sauce

So, a nice Kansas dinner!!!

a food photographer I'm not!

And, I don’t normally make dessert but I thought since we were celebrating and all that I should so I made “Kansas” Dump Cake!!

simple stuff

Since it has pineapples and cherries (well cherry pie filling but…) I think it counts as fruit!!

so tasty!
so tasty!

And that is how we celebrate Kansas Day!!!

Do you like to plan themed meals to celebrate certain events/days?

Happy Thursday!!

Kim

PS – I have a special guest tomorrow – I’m super excited!!!
