Resting and Running (9/7-9/13)

This week was mostly about 44s and resting!!

Sunday 9/7 44 cross body obliques (standing) – knee to elbow.

I tried to stay balanced on one leg the entire time I was doing this move – sort of a challenge!!  And, I had to do the other side!

I like moves like this – and I love that Jordan is doing homework in the background without a shirt!!!

I did an easy 4 mile run just to shake my legs out a bit!!!

Monday 9/8  44 crunches while laying on the foam roller.

This move was sort of nice on the down part as a stretch!!!

Tuesday 9/9  44 chest fly in crunch position with a band.  This move is one I adapted from Stuft Mama.

Basically I just opened my arms to the side and then up in front while holding my core tight the entire time!!

Wednesday 9/10  44 side lying scissors with legs.

I counted a right leg on top and right leg back as 1 rep.  This move really worked my hips because I kept my legs off the ground the entire time.

And, of course, I had to flip over and get the other side!!

And, I ran a race – The Patriot’s Run.Screen Shot 2014-09-13 at 6.39.33 AM

I didn’t get my goal (50 miles) but I run over a marathon and then called it a day (thoughts on the race on Monday!).

Friday 9/12  44 seated leg extensions.

This 44 almost didn’t happen.  Chris and I had to go to Wichita to get stuff for his uniform at the BX and then I sort of forgot.  Better to get it done at 10:00 pm than never!!!

Saturday 9/13  44 3 part stretch.

I did this early this morning before we left for Hunter’s very cold cross country meet which is why I have on about 3 layers of clothes!!  The stretch was just what I needed after running Thursday and spending over 4 hours in the car on Friday.

Happy Saturday!!!  (cold here – I hope this isn’t a sign of the coming winter weather!!)

A New Beginning

My favorite thing about the start of a new school year is the fact that it is a new beginning – new teachers, new activities, even new clothes!!!

This is a big year – the last year I will have a middles school student!!  Since Hunter is in 8th grade, next year both boys will be at the high school!!!

Hunter started school on Wednesday  –

Jordan had an extra day off because just the freshman go on the first day!!!  But, Wednesday evening was band exhibition – the culmination of all the hard work put in at band camp!

Both boys had a great start to the  school year and I know it is going to be a super year for them!!!

Hard to believe that it is a new school year already – summer flew by!!!  I can’t wait to see what all this new year has in store for my boys!!!

Happy Friday!!

Day With KT Is Evolving

Today’s 44 was a row with a band.  Loop the band around your feet and sit back in a semi-reclined position –

On the row, you really squeeze your shoulder blades together to feel the move.  By reclining a little, you can add in some core work – always a bonus!

I also got in a nice long run!!  I did 11 miles (88:07) + a nice easy cool down mile.  Since this week is spring break I have a little extra time in the mornings so I’m going to try and get several long runs!

I think that everything in life is constantly changing or evolving otherwise it becomes stagnant.

Carla Binberg (the former MizFit) has been doing a series on change the past few weeks which has really resonated with me.  Change can be a great thing and it can keep us moving forward in our lives and toward our goals.

Lately I have alluded to the fact that I need to make some changes in regards to my blog. I wrote about how hard decisions can be and then yesterday I talked about staying true to my “why.”  I have also been really focusing on the THINK acronym and I know that a lot of what I post isn’t helpful, inspiring or necessary!!!

The one thing I know is that I have way to many blog friends (and the list has grown since that September post!!!) to walk away from my little space.

Screen Shot 2014-03-16 at 8.45.28 PMSo after a LOT  of thought I have decided it is time for a change over here!

I have posted 547 consecutive days and loved almost every minute of it!!  However, I’ve decided that it is time for me to back off and I am going to go to a lighter  posting schedule (probably 3 week days but it might be 4 some weeks!) with a Daily 44 recap of the week on the weekend.  It is odd for me to not  start every post with my daily move and I might continue that at least for awhile – small changes might be easier!!!

I think/hope that by cutting down on posts I will be able to focus more on having quality posts and also read and comment on other blogs the way I really want to!!!

I figure this will either take away some stress in my life or I will have major withdrawals from my daily blogging and then I will just Screen Shot 2014-03-16 at 8.56.09 PMHow has you blog evolved since you started blogging?  Was it hard or easy to make changes?

Happy Monday!!

Leaving On a Jet Plane

Today I used my band for my 44.  I did a side bend with a leg lift and pulled my arm up at the same time.  (It’s a bit like a cartoon act to see the pictures but….)

I did all 44 with my left leg and then switched sides and did 44 more.

I barely tapped my toe as I stood straight between each rep – this was a move that I felt in my obliques and hips way before I finished all of my reps!!!

And – Day #4 in a row for a run!!!  1.5% incline – 8 miles – 61:20 + 0.6 miles cool down.

I’m fixing to date myself but I LOVE John Denver!!!

So this morning, Jordan was up at 2:00 am (which meant Chris and I were up!!!) because they had to be at the high school by 2:45 to leave for Los Angeles, CA today.  His flight isn’t until 9 something but some of the flights were closer to 6 and they wanted everyone to go to the airport together.

I know that he is super excited and going to have a ton of fun!!  They have SO MUCH packed into the next 5 days.  2 of the days will be spent at….

Screen Shot 2014-03-13 at 6.56.51 AMThis will be Jordan’s first time to go to Disney and I think he is looking forward to it.

At some point they do actually have a band event – they are playing at the Americana in Glendale, CA.Screen Shot 2014-03-13 at 6.59.31 AMPretty swanky!!!

Sinking

Today I used my small band –

small - tons of resistance

and worked my hamstrings for the 44.  I started with the band around my ankles and moved it to cover one foot –

From the start position, I pushed my foot (keeping it flexed) straight back –

push back

As you can see, it is hard to stay straight up but part of the work was a balance challenge!!!  And, I don’t want my hamstrings to be unbalanced so I had to do the left side, too!!

I love small moves like this that are so effective!!!

And, today was another running day!!!  Of course, I’m a wimp and don’t bundle up and hit the streets like so many hard-core runners (it is currently 3 degrees!!!) and I needed to catch up on Dance Moms anyway!!!
     1.5% incline – 8 miles in 61:37 + 0.75 miles super easy

Screen Shot 2014-01-23 at 7.02.35 AM

Currently, I feel like that ship represents me!!!  I feel like I have toppled over and am just barely staying above the surface!!!

I’ve talked about the fact that I have sleep issues (meaning I rarely sleep more than 2 hours at a time) and lately I have been averaging around 4 hours of sleep a night.

Last night I woke up at 2 and never fully went back to sleep before my 5:00am alarm!

Screen Shot 2014-01-23 at 7.06.11 AMMy mind is constantly spinning these days!

I have a booth this weekend at the local Bridal Fair and I feel like I’ve put a lot of energy into this and still don’t have a clue what I’m doing.  Lately, we haven’t had a lot of bookings at our venue but the expenses (thanks to numerous issues with the apartments) are out of control!

I’ve made several commitments involving other things (some guest posts, personal stuff……) and  I’m excited about all of them but they churn around in my brain during the night, too.

Factor in the extreme cold and my complete dislike (hate) of winter and I just feel myself sinking more and more.

Maybe I will just imagine myself right here –

Screen Shot 2014-01-23 at 7.11.05 AMfor the next few days (months – whatever!!!).

Or, I will just go back to my mantra –

Happy Thursday!!  I will be at the beach (if only in my mind!)!!
