One of Those Days

Today for my 44 I tried a new to me move that Fitknitchick  (Tamara) shared on her Facebook page.  It is called a Jefferson Deadlift and it really is different.

My version looked something like this –

ready (awkward!!)
ready (awkward!!)
down
down

And, because it seems like one leg works harder in the stance, I did 2 sets of 44 so I could work the other side equally hard.

2nd side

Yesterday was one of “those” days.  Do you know the kind I’m talking about?  Not a horrible day, just a day that everything (and I really mean EVERYTHING) irritated me.

*  pictures for my daily 44 – not the way I would have done them
*  9.6 miles – actually this went OK and I caught up on some of my reality shows
*  no shower, just change into dry workout stuff to go clean the venue
*  still no gas in my car!!!
*  Chris & Hunter went with me to clean and set-up but that pretty much just got on my nerves because I had to tell them what and how to do things (because it should be done my way – right?!)
*  noticed more floor issues – I’m sure it’s still related to flood (OK – not really a flood, just a LOT of water)

flood at our venue
flood at our venue

*  call from a guy who gave us a bid for some work that was double what his estimate had been (and he is a talker!!)
*  a bride who wants to book our venue but she wants me to give her several hours for free
*  loud talkers at dinner (the boys) and there was some spitting involved (I might have taken my plate and drink out of the room for a bit)
*  my bracket is already a mess and the tournament barely started!!

See, nothing major.  Actually, most of it comes down to the fact that I like things to go my way and not much did yesterday.

Oh, by the way…Wednesday night I met a friend for dinner and this happened –

Screen Shot 2014-03-20 at 9.58.59 PMSo I pretty much failed on giving up wine (and everything else) for Lent.  I made it 2 weeks!!! (EPIC FAIL!)

It’s a new day and I am going to try and not be so cranky – it is Fun Friday after all!!!

Anyone else have days that you just feel cranky all day for now real reason?

Happy Friday!!

Kim

Serene or Cranky?

Today’s 43 was another simple move to work my abs.  I did toe-touch sit-ups.

start (sleeping optional)

full sit-up reach for toes

This move is nice because the down part is actually a great stretch – perfect for an early morning 43.

And I’m still taking it easy with the rest of my working out because tomorrow evening I will start my first 44 with a 44 mile run.  (I’m starting the day/evening before my birthday but will finish on Monday so it still counts as the 44 for Monday.)  I need to see how my body will handle an evening/night run since my 50 mile race starts at 6:00 pm and goes through the night.  I figured this was the perfect test run!!!

I don’t even drink coffee (crazy, I know!) but this card pretty much sums me up about now.  Isn’t it funny how some days we can just breeze through everything and other days every little thing gets on our nerves and sets us off?  At least I hope I’m not the only person who’s like that!!!

I’m going to work on being serene and pleasant – maybe coffee would help since it is only 6:30 and we are fixing to leave for another early Saturday cross country meet (and it’s cold – 48 degrees!!!).

Happy Saturday!!!

Kim

PS – if you missed yesterday’s post (Oh, the People You’ll Meet) you should check it out – there’s a really good chance that you part of the post!

Even Adults Need a Time-Out Sometimes!!

Today for my 43, I wanted to do something with weights since I haven’t in awhile.  I did a bicep curl and plie squat at the same time – basic moves but it felt good!!

start

stand & squeeze

I used 12 pound dumbbells and that was a challenge by the last 10 or so!!!

Today I finally did the first round of this week’s challenge workout with Taylor.  This one is 3 circuits – as many reps as possible during the time.  Circuit 1 – 10 minutes, circuit 2 – 8 minutes and circuit 3 – 6 minutes.  It was pretty challenging (especially circuit 3 which was 4 different burpees – 5 reps each for the whole time and yes, 6 minutes is a long time to do nothing but burpees!!!).

Since it is already Thursday and I’m just now starting this week’s workout, I will do it the next 2 days also!!  I like to space things better but you do what you have to do!!!

If you have kids, work with kids or read anything about kids then I’m sure you have heard of the “Time-Out” concept.  When our boys were younger, we didn’t call it time-out but they did have something similar on occasion.

Last night by the time we got home and unloaded the car, I needed to be put in time-out.  I was CRANKY!!!Screen shot 2013-08-01 at 8.51.53 AMI was tired of being cooped up and ready to not be around anyone (especially my family) for a few minutes!!  I know that sounds harsh but give me a break – we just spent 2 straight days in the car for 22 hours!!!  Plus, I still had to unpack (cause I hate to leave it – I have issues!) and figure out something for dinner.

Screen shot 2013-08-01 at 8.37.41 AMI was going to try to get to the grocery store and, of course, Chris wanted to go with me.  What?!  We just spent the last 2 days  together non-stop, I think I will go alone!!!  (See, cranky!!  Usually I like it when Chris and I run errands together.)

Chris ended up pouring me a glass of wine Screen shot 2013-08-01 at 8.57.23 AMand running to the store for a few things by himself!!

So, not a true “time-out”Screen shot 2013-08-01 at 8.37.25 AMbut good for everyone.  I enjoyed a few minutes to myself and we still had a much healthier dinner than the past few days on the road!  Plus, I quit snapping at everyone.

Moral – adults can occasionally benefit from time-outs – usually we even put ourselves in them – just don’t forget the whine/wine!!!

Do you ever feel like you could benefit from a time-out?

Happy Thursday!!!
