One Size Does NOT Fit All!!

Do you ever have days that everything you read and hear seems to be trying to fit everyone into a mold?

Food:  Definitely not “one size fits all” since everyone has different dietary needs and requirements.  Just because being Paleo works for some and others have to avoid gluten and some choose to be vegan doesn’t mean that everyone should eat the same!!!

I like my carbs and meat and cheese and wine!!

Exercise:  We all know our own bodies and what works and doesn’t work for us.  Some of us LOVE running and can’t imagine a life without it but there are many people who despise running and that is perfectly OK!!

And, we all like to spend different amounts of time on our workouts which is fine – there isn’t a set amount of time that is the best!!!

Parenting/Marriage/Life in General:  Lately these areas are some that I’ve seen a lot of rules and guidelines for and it sort of bugs me.  What works for some families doesn’t necessarily  work for our family and I know that some of the things we do would never work for lots of people.

There are so many sources that try to make us all fit into neat little boxes and it is NEVER going to happen!!!

I think it is easy to get caught up in trying to do the “right things” or the things that others seem to think we should but we really just need to find and do what works for us and not worry about the rest!!!

Do ever feel like others (society in general) are trying to mold you and put you in a box?
How do you feel about “One size fits all”?

Happy Wednesday!!

What’s Your Hardcore?

I think that we all have something about us that makes us hardcore.

Screen Shot 2015-01-13 at 3.46.50 PM

There is at least one area (for some it is many areas) that we can push through any fear, all pain and succeed!!!

I know a couple of things that is not my hardcore – cold Screen Shot 2015-01-13 at 3.51.53 PM(I’m a complete wimp and freely admit it!!) and, at this point anyway, running a 50 mile race.

However, I do think that with fitness in general I’m pretty hardcore.  There are very few moves/exercises that I won’t at least attempt – usually I try for 45 reps!! (at a minimum!)  Sometimes I’m not successful and have to attempt moves multiple times but that is the fun part.

Ummm....not me - thank you google search for random pictures.
Ummm….not me – thank you google search for random pictures.

Even when I fail at a move (still haven’t mastered the one arm push-up!!!), I keep going back for more because eventually I will get it!!!

What is your hardcore?
Can you do a one arm push-up?
Can you do the move that mankofit is doing in the picture above?

Happy Wednesday!!

Do You Have an Addictive Personality?

Screen Shot 2014-04-10 at 8.12.27 PMAn addictive personality refers to a particular set of personality traits that make an individual predisposed to addictions.  (according to Wikipedia)

There have been many times in my life that I’ve felt like I have an addictive personality.  I have to really watch myself  sometimes because I have an “All or None” mentality in a lot of circumstances.

Exercise is one example – I feel like if 1 hour is good then 5 would be better!!  Thankfully, unless I start getting up at 2 or 3 every morning then I can’t fit 5 hours of exercise into my day!!

Screen Shot 2014-04-10 at 8.19.55 PM

There was a time in my early 20s that I would go for a run at 11:30 at night when I got off work because I felt like I had to get in a 2nd run for the day – not always a good choice!!!

All the little games/apps that can be played on the phone are dangerous for me.  I have wasted way too many hours playing –

andScreen Shot 2014-04-10 at 8.22.56 PMOn Sunday Hunter introduced me to a new time suck game –

Screen Shot 2014-04-10 at 8.23.41 PMI have lost hours this week on this game – late at night, waiting places, when I should be working…..I keep thinking, “just one more game” and then an hour will pass and I’m still trying to beat the game!

Part of why I limit the TV series that I watch is because I get obsessed and want to watch every single episode in a day – ummm….that is not a good thing – unless I combine it with the exercise thing and watch from the treadmill!!!  (just kidding -sort of!)

Even in blog reading I find myself being very obsessive about it – lately my Bloglovin feed has been out of control.  I can’t even begin to make it through the list but I try because my personality says, “you need to go through the whole list EVERY day!!”

What about you?  Do you feel like you have an addictive personality or can you play one game, watch one episode, read a few blogs…..and move on?

Happy Friday!!!
I would love to spend the day trying to win 2048 and read blogs but I’m off to clean and set up for an event!

Why Do YOU Exercise?

Today’s 43 looks deceptively simple!!!  The move is primarily geared to work your rotator cuff but after about 20 reps your entire arm will start to feel the burn!!

Start by laying on your side with a light weight (I used 5 pounds) in your top hand.

Rotate your arm about 90 degrees, keeping your elbow tight to your body.

See how simple it looks?!  Try some!!!  And don’t forget to work both sides!

Sometimes the littlest moves have the biggest benefits!!!

Today I did a favorite workout – Turbo Fire – Fire 55.  This workout is almost an hour (55 minutes) of fast paced cardio and it is super fun every single time!!!

There are so many reasons that people exercise – some people do it only because they feel like they have to or that they should, some people do it to try and be skinny – Screen shot 2013-09-11 at 6.46.55 AMThere are some who exercise not to be skinny but to lose weight – Screen shot 2013-09-11 at 6.47.25 AMMany people exercise or workout because they are training for something – a race, a competition of some sort, a particular event – Screen shot 2013-09-11 at 6.47.53 AMAnd there are people who exercise just to become more fit – Screen shot 2013-09-11 at 6.48.26 AMThe reason people exercise often affects the enjoyment that they actually get from working out.  When the goal is to be skinny or lose weight and results aren’t immediate it can be very frustrating.

Working out because you are training for something can take away some of the fun of exercising  especially if you don’t perform exactly the way you had hoped to.  And, following a specific training plan sometimes becomes monotonous and saps all the joy and love of the exercise.

Screen shot 2013-09-11 at 6.49.09 AMSome people workout just because they love the way it makes them feel – the release of endorphins after a hard workout is worth the struggles and temporary pain!!!  That feeling of pushing yourself to your very limit and then just going a little bit further is such an amazing thing!  And getting a good sweat on is awesome!!!

Screen shot 2013-09-11 at 6.49.39 AM

I work out because I love it.  I love knowing that there is very little that I can’t do if I just put my mind to it.  Pushing myself to the breaking point is the way I keep challenging myself to become the very best form of me that I can be.

So – why do you workout?

Happy Wednesday and Happy Exercising!!!

Kim
