Driving and Running, Business and Sleeping, Babies and Blogging

Currently I’m in Texas!!!  I drove down on Saturday (after Hunter and I ran 9 miles!) to spend some time with my sister and her family so that I could meet my new niece and help out some.

It is less than 7 hours so the drive isn’t too bad – especially since I have books on CD to keep me entertained (and sunflower seeds to keep me awake!).

I know that I should try to get in a few more good runs this week since next week will be all about resting (well, maybe not resting but it won’t include running much).  However, I’m TIRED!!!!

I brought some work to Texas with me (business stuff and a volunteer project I’m working on) and it is just sitting on the desk staring at me – I think it’s mocking me!!!

Last night I stayed up until midnight (that is WAY past my bedtime) trying to get caught up on blogging (didn’t happen – still behind!).

Something has got to give!!!  Sleep is already at a minimum in my world.  Working out is part of what I do – even if it is less than normal (still includes a daily 44).

For these next couple of days, I will just try to let things go and focus on family!!!

After all, the next time I turn around, Griffin will be in high school (like my own boys!!) so I better enjoy this baby stage while I have a chance!!

Happy Monday!

All Good Things Must End

Today I did a bridge move for my 44 – it was a walking bridge.

Start in a bridge position with your feet on a bench (or a chair which is what I did) –

This move was a challenge – hard to keep my hips lifted the whole time.  (a right and left foot up = 1 rep)

My family is leaving today – always a sad thing because it will be awhile before we get together again!!!

Saturday night fun!
Saturday night fun!

I really wish we lived closer!!!

While Sam & Stacy were here they wanted to try and get some pictures for their Christmas card – we went over to our event venue and I took a few – fun times for sure!!

I’m happy that we were able to spend the past 4 days together!!!!  Being with them is always fun!!

No time to be too sad today – it is time to bust out all of the Christmas stuff!!!  Tomorrow I will sit down and try to catch up on blog reading!

Happy Sunday!!

Family Time

Today for my 44 I did a halo to curtsy lunge – this is another one of those moves that work most of the body!!!

I counted a right and left side as 1 rep – even though I only used 5 pound dumbbells, my upper body got some serious work to complete 44.

Stacy and I are fixing to do a cross-fit style workout – I think she is going kill me!!  That’s OK – we are headed out to run after!

Rockin' the Runner T!!!
Rockin’ the Runner T!!!

My sister-in-law is training for her first marathon so I’m going to log her miles with her while they are here – OUTSIDE!!!  The current temp is 17 so I guess I will have to employ my Suck it Up  in a big way!!!  Her plan is 8 today, 4 tomorrow, 8 Friday and 16 Saturday (that will be her longest run!!).

We have lived here (Kansas) Screen shot 2013-11-27 at 6.37.24 AMfor over 14 years.  It is a long drive for any of my family to come up from Texas (especially since Topeka isn’t really a major tourist attraction!).  Over the years, we haven’t had a lot of family visitors but Sam (my younger brother) and Stacy come almost every year!!!!

They have been here on Easter (it happened to also be Hunter’s 6th birthday), summer vacation, 4th of July and numerous Thanksgivings!!!

Screen shot 2013-11-27 at 6.41.50 AMI truly am thankful for Sam, Stacy, Isabel and Hays who got to our house about 10:00 last night (after a very long day of driving for them!!).  They will be here until Sunday morning and I plan to enjoy every minute of their time with us!!!

Stacy and I will run and workout then shop and enjoy our wine.  Hays can’t wait to play ball and cars with the “big boys!” Isabel is looking forward to our annual “girls night” – special drinks and a movie without any boys invited!  There will be plenty of food (already have gumbo going for lunch in my crockpot and an egg casserole ready to put in the oven for breakfast!).

So, for the next few days I plan to do my daily 44s and I will probably still do a post but the rest of the time will be off the computer enjoying time with my family!!!

Happy Wednesday!!!

Sketchy Internet & Huge Hugs!!!

Today I did a challenging 43 for sure – single leg burpees!!  And since I have 2 legs, I actually had to do 2 sets of 43 for a total of 86 burpees!  This was probably one of the most challenging 43s that I have done this year!!

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thv3mJioVSA’]

Chris actually filmed this yesterday after my run (that’s why I’m a sweaty mess!!) but I did all 43 x 2 this morning!!!

I realized while I was doing the single leg burpees that my left leg is my weaker leg!!!  The move was “easier” with the right side (that easier is relative!!!) but I struggled a lot on the left!!!

I also did Les Mills Combat – Combat 45 which is one of my favorites!!!  Lots of great plyo moves.  This is a great way to get an awesome workout in under an hour!!  And, all the punching and kicking help work my core, too.

The internet/WiFi in my hotel is awful – very slow!!  I guess it is a sign that I need to take a small break.  Last night after I got checked in I was going to try to catch up on my BlogLovin reads (I think there were about 140 new posts) but the internet was so slow that after trying for 10 minutes to pull up a site I decided it wasn’t meant to be!

THANK YOU to so many of you for the sweet words you left on yesterday’s post.  I haven’t been able to reply (see above paragraph) but I read every comment and appreciated all of the kind words, thoughts and “hugs”!!!

Today and tomorrow will be spent with family remembering Poppa. Saturday after the services and everything else I will reverse my 8 hour drive to get back home to my boys. (They didn’t make the trip because it is hard enough for me to do all this driving in 3 days but add in the boys and OY!!!  Plus, since they have just been in school a week I hated to have them miss 2 days – that is a lot of makeup work!!!)

Happy Friday!

Kim

PS – Carly @ Fine Fit Day featured me as a “fit mama” today.

Happiness Is…

Today’s 43 was a bicep curl while in a V-sit.  (I know that I’ve had a few 43s in a row that work my abs/core but that is because I’m resting my legs!!!)

start

I tried to hold my entire body still except my arms from the elbow down.  Because of the core work involved here – I only used 8 pound dumbbells – I was afraid if I went heavier that I would start swinging my arms and end up hurting something like my back!!

curl
curl

I liked this move since I got some upper body work, core work and even my hip flexors got a little work while I held my legs up.

And, as hard as it is for me to take days off from working out, I’m giving myself another day off today.  I know that after running 31 miles on Friday my body needs it!!  Of course, I have Jordan who keeps saying – it would have been more impressive if you had done Insanity on the day you ran 5 hours!  Today he is giving me grief for not doing Insanity or “at least do some Tae-Bo!”  Silly boy!!!Screen shot 2013-07-14 at 7.49.47 AM

When I was in 2nd grade, we had a big music production at my school and I actually had a solo (crazy since I can’t really sing!).  I was Snoopy and sang the song Happiness Is.  There is one section of the song that I have always remembered:

          Happiness is morning and evening,
          Daytime and nighttime, too.
For happiness is anyone and anything at all
          That’s loved by you!

So much truth to those last 2 lines – happiness can be anything!!!
