A Hobby Should be Fun not a Source of Stress

I love blogging – everything about it but especially all of the incredible people I have “met” through blogs!!!Screen Shot 2014-12-09 at 9.42.08 PM

However, lately I have been feeling stress instead of joy when it comes to blogging.  Mostly because I am trying to cram it in to a short amount of time that really should be spent with my family or going to an activity with the boys.

Last week we had events 4 days in a row at our venue.  This week we have 6 straight days of events.  That means I will be cleaning, setting-up and ironing table cloths for hours every day.

When I come home I just want to spend time with the boys!!!  Instead I feel like I need to sit down and catch up on blogs.  But blogging is supposed to be a hobby!!!

Screen Shot 2014-12-09 at 9.41.08 PMI am going to give myself the permission to take a small break.  I might still read blogs when I have time and I will probably do my 45 recaps but I’m not sure how much else I will do for awhile.

I want to enjoy the month of December instead of turning  into a stressed mess because I haven’t even thought about shopping – I still have 2 weeks to get it all done!!!

I know this isn’t really a big announcement worthy thing.  I just thought that writing it down would help keep me accountable to myself.  Otherwise I end up just going along exactly the same way and not really making a change.

Do you ever put things in writing and share them with others to help you stay on track?

Happy Wednesday!!

Remember – Have Fun!

Screen Shot 2014-04-06 at 9.00.30 PM

Yesterday morning Hunter and I did his first long run!!  He is training for a half marathon and I’m going to do his long runs with him (as well as the race!).

Of course it was fun for me – I got to run and spend time with my son – what could be better?!

But, I told Hunter that the training should be fun for him.  I don’t want him to dread the Sunday long run or feel like it is something he “has” to do!!!  The main goal in the training and racing should be – Screen Shot 2014-04-06 at 8.59.57 PM

I started thinking that really this should be applied to LIFE!!!  We shouldn’t dread things that are part of our life.  I don’t want to rush life in order to get past things that I don’t enjoy.  I want to embrace all of life and make it fun.

In our family, Chris is the “fun” parent and I’m usually the one reminding everyone of the rules and being the stick-in-the mud!  I don’t know that I will ever change that completely but I do want to try and enjoy all parts of life and make things more fun!!!

Screen Shot 2014-04-06 at 9.00.14 PM

Way back when Chris and I first met, he was in pilot training (for the Air Force).  It was a very intense program but one of the things Chris used to say (and has continued to say since then) always stood out to me.  He would finish flying and tell the instructor, “I can’t believe they pay me to do this.”

The reason he felt that way is because flying was (and continues to be today) FUN for him!  He always wanted to be a pilot and he fulfilled his dream and loves being able to fly!

That is what I hope for my boys – I want them to do what they love because it will make their lives so much better and more fun!!!

Screen Shot 2014-04-06 at 8.59.14 PMI think that attitude goes a long way to determining how much fun something is and I’m working on my attitude when it comes to tasks/events that aren’t my favorite.  I know that it is possible to have fun no matter what you are doing if you really want to.

There are going to be times in all of our lives that we have to do things that we don’t want to or that aren’t very pleasant.  But, overall, I think that life should be fun!!!

Screen Shot 2014-04-06 at 9.11.49 PM

This week I have things that I’m looking forward to and other things that I would rather avoid but I’m going to do my best to make them all fun!!

What are you going to do today to have fun?

Happy Monday!!

Running Because I Want to Not Because I Have to

Because I was so excited to do weighted burpees on Thursday, I didn’t do Nellie’s (Brooklyn Active Mama) Wednesday workout yet – so today I did 44 toe touches.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyo4p5cw-7c&feature=youtu.be’]

This is a move that you will feel after just a few!!!  44 of these were a challenge!!!

And – because it’s been a week since the last time I ran, I ran today.  All week long I’ve thought about how far I would run today – I thought about doing 50 miles (on my treadmill, of course!) just because I know I have it in me.   Then I thought about running 25 so that I could complete the 50 (over the course of a week but whatever….).

Screen shot 2013-10-19 at 9.57.48 AM

However, this morning, I ran the way I felt – because that is what running is all about for me!!!  I did 7 miles in 45:43 (1.5% incline) and then another 1.5 miles at a nice easy pace to cool down.

I have realized that I am not a person who like to follow a running training plan at this point in my life.  I just want to run for the pure enjoyment I get from running.

I know lots of people thrive on training plans and knowing exactly what each day will bring but when I run that way, I start to resent everything about running – and I hate that feeling.

Screen shot 2013-10-19 at 9.57.30 AMSome days I want to run 5-9  miles at a quick pace just because – so I do!

Some days I feel like doing some intervals – so I do them!!

Some days – the idea of running for 3-5 hours is my idea of a good time!!!

Some days I don’t want to run at all – so I pick a different workout and I am completely OK with it.

Today, I decided that I don’t have to prove anything with my running – I just want to continue to enjoy it!!!  And one day, that might mean lacing up my shoes and running 50 miles just because I want to!!!  (today was not that day!)

Happy Saturday!

Friday Funnies

For my 43 today I went with a plank move!  I did an elbow plank with an inward twisting knee – alternating sides until I had done 43 with each knee.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A30hBZrA5ds’]

This was a nice move  – you can tell in the video that I had to work hard to stay level and not let my butt come up too much.

I also taught Boot Camp again  – we did a repeat from earlier in the summer!  Today we did the 5-4-3-2-1 workout.  This workout has lots of moving squats and walking lunges plus some running – perfect for helping get rid of the residual soreness (and pain!) in my quads.  I think it actually helped because I can almost run up and down the stairs again!!!

Just for Fun Friday:

Yep!
Sometimes this just happens
I love this!!!

many people that I know - Love to hear people laugh!

Friday Fun Laughs

Today’s 43 was one of Hunter’s creations – I think sometimes he wants to see how hard he can push me!!!!  He does a couple and calls it quits but I have to do 43.  Oh, well – I like the challenge!!!

So, the move was a skater with a side push-up with one leg back and one knee bent.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5ZL-ukGm6s’]

Try them – it was a fun move (for about 20)!!!  I counted each push-up as 1 so maybe I cheated because I didn’t do 43 each side but I think 43 total was enough with this move!!!

Then it was Boot Camp time.  This morning I just did the 6 am in my backyard.  (Last Friday I did 6 and 7:15!!!)  I’m really happy that the hot weather this week has meant no more wet grass for boot camp – so much nicer!!!

Today’s Insanity Asylum workout was Back to Core.  Jordan decided to do this with me instead of just sit and watch (and critique) me.  I think it was good for him – he did about 25-30% and was dying.  And, I told him this is the “easiest” one in the program.  Now he knows that just because watching it is easy, doing the workout is another thing completely.  He said he will try some more so that he can build up – Good Plan!!! Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 8.38.52 AMI try to have fun no matter what I’m doing – some days and some events are a little harder than others to find the fun!!

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 8.55.34 AMYIKES!!!  Don’t want that – better just laugh out loud!!!

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 8.33.49 AM

So – I don’t really think anyone is an idiot but this made me laugh!!!

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 8.59.51 AM

Sponge Bob knows how to laugh – and he laughs often (and annoyingly!!!).

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 8.40.09 AMAlmost every day – often while running!!!  And then I always do the quick check to see if anyone saw me about bite the ground!!!

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 8.56.48 AM

These things always entertain me (and because I’m sort-of anal I won’t quit looking until I can figure it out!!).

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 9.00.14 AM

I couldn’t do this without going really slow – and I rarely say things slowly!!!  (even then it took a lot of tries!!)

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 8.30.56 AM

This just made me laugh because I’m usually the one that asks a stupid question like “what are you doing?” when it totally obvious what someone is doing!!!

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 9.00.38 AMAnd, I don’t know why this picture cracked me up so much but it did!!  Maybe because it is sort of true.

Happy Fun Friday – I hope you have lots of joy and laughter today!!!!
