My New Happy Hour

Today’s 44 was similar to a move that Jody shared on Instagram recently.  She did an oblique crunch on the stability ball – doing all reps to the same side before switching.

I changed up the move some and don’t look nearly as graceful as Jody but…..

start (easy part!)
start (easy part!)
crunch and reach
crunch and reach
other side

You can sort of tell that I did more of a reach and I alternated sides.  I did count a right and left as 1 rep so it was actually 88 crunches to complete the 44.

Today is more running – nice and easy to make sure that my Achilles  is OK after the pain the other day.  (chronic injury – have to baby it sometime!!)  I’m trying to keep my mileage up because this month Taylor has a fun March challenge.  The challenge is to get at least 31 miles of walking or running BUT if you already do that then it was to pick a number that would be a good challenge.

My goal for March is 150 miles of running.  That isn’t much for a lot of people but for me that is a very high mileage month!!!

So……last night while making dinner, I also made this –

DSCN04142 days in, did I already fail on giving up my Happy Hour???

Nope!!!  Because that is actually….

Crystal Light
Crystal Light

It’s just Crystal Light in a fun glass!!

Part of why I enjoy my evening cocktail is because I love my fun glasses – Martini glassesMartini glassesI have a collection of Martini glasses all around my kitchen soffit and they are just fun to use.  I decided that I can still use the glasses – just with a different type of drink.

And, the beauty of my Crystal Lighttini is that it is only 5 calories!!!

So, I can still have fun drinks and give up wine/cocktails – it’s a WIN!!!

Happy Friday!!

Kim

FYI – this is NOT a sponsored post.  I just happened to have Crystal Light in my pantry and decided to make some for “happy hour.”

Giving Something Up

Today’s 44 was a wall sit with alternating foot raises.

sit - goofy look helps
sit – startled  look helps (hands???)
raise right foot (YIKES!! Take the picture!!)
raise right foot
(YIKES!!)
raise left foot
raise left foot

These might be some of the “best” pictures yet if you want to see me look like a total dork.  5:00 am is early and I can’t spend much time worrying about how I look in  the pictures!!!

I counted a right lift and a left lift as 1 rep.  For fun I timed my wall sit while I did this – 2:35.

I was hoping to get in another 9 miles today but during mile 7 my Achilles started hurting quite a bit so I just finished that one and then did 1.5 nice and easy to try and stretch it out some.

We aren’t Catholic but after doing some research and talking to friends who are Catholic, I’ve learned that anyone can benefit from the act of giving something up for a period of time.  I also learned that if you are going to give something up it should be something that will be hard for you so that it really makes a difference.

I picked something from the above list and if you have read my blog for awhile you might know which one of the things up there will be a hard one for me to give up.

good stuff!
good stuff!

I have decided to give up my evening cocktail/wine!!

“An experience of want, however temporary, can help us to appreciate the true abundance in our lives. And a small positive change can have a big impact that lasts beyond the 40 days of Lent.”  (Neela Kale)

So, this will be a challenge for me (I really enjoy my happy hour drinks!!) and I think that Chris is pretty sure I won’t really stick to the 40 days but I think it will also be a great experience!!!

Do you give anything up for Lent?

Happy Wednesday!!

Friday Happy Hour

Today for the 44 I did donkey kicks.  You start in plank (although after starting to kick I never went back to plank) and kick your feet up in the air.

This is one of those moves that it takes a couple of reps to get into the rhythm.  Even though the demo just shows slow ones, I mixed it up and did 5 slow and then 5 quick until I completed all 44.

I did another new Biggest Loser DVD today – Calorie Knockout.  Overall it was a good workout.  The first segment was with Anna Kournikova and she led it sort-of like she led her team the season she was on The Biggest Loser (not that well!!!).  It was supposed to be 15 minutes and at 12 she said we were done – WHAT?!

Thankfully the next 2 segments were really good and very intense – one with Bob and the other with Dolvett!

Screen Shot 2014-01-17 at 6.45.42 AMSince it’s Friday I thought it would be fun if we had happy hour and all y’all are invited!!

What will you bring?
And more importantly what are you happy about?

I’m probably going to bring some wine (Moscato) because I LIKE WINE!!! And I might also bring some chips and guacamole because that sounds good today!!!  (Feel free to bring a protein shake if that is more your style!!)

I’m happy that this weekend is a 3 day weekend for all of us – Chris is off on Monday and the boys don’t have school!!!  Screen Shot 2014-01-17 at 6.54.04 AMActually Chris has a 4 day weekend since he is off today – glad I only have 2 meetings this morning and the rest of the day free!!!

I’m happy that this weekend is supposed to be warm again – 63 is the predicted high for Sunday!!  I will definitely take that in January!!

I’m happy that I know someone who is at least thinking about running the 50 mile race with me in May!!!  I hope it works out, Carmen!!!

I’m also happy that in the last year I have made so many great bloggy friends – I appreciate all of y’all who stop in and read my ramblings – I enjoy getting to know you and also love to see people that I already know over here!!!

Happy Friday!!!
