500 Days of Activity!!!

Today’s 44 was a challenge!!!  I did a back lunge – front kick – back lunge (all right leg) – jump lunge to switch sides and then repeated the moves on the left side for 1 rep.  Between all 3 moves (lunges, kicks and jumps) I was definitely breathing hard!!!

I liked this move but 44 reps was a lot!!!  Sometimes I don’t think these things through very well!!  Oh, well – it’s good for me!

It was also a run day – 1.5% incline 7 miles (51:04) + an easy cool down mile.

I probably won’t run again until Friday – big run on tap!!  I’m doing a virtual race as part of Kristen’s (Stuft Mama) STUFT Challenge for Run Sixty Feet.  Kristen is raising money for Run Sixty Feet with her run on Friday (she’s running 37 miles since it is her 37th birthday – what a great way to celebrate a birthday!!).  I’m planning to do the same (37 miles) on Friday in support of both Kristen and the cause (Run Sixty Feet).

Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 6.56.35 AMToday is my 500th day of daily moves  – 365 days of 43s and 135 days of 44s!!!

I started this adventure on September 16, 2012 when I turned 43 with a goal of doing some form of activity every single day.  Using my age is a great (although sometimes not so great) way to have a set goal for each move.

After a year of Daily 43s I enjoyed it so much that I decided to continue with Daily 44s.

There are occasionally days that I’m not as motivated to do 44 reps of anything (so I usually pick something fairly easy and just get it done) but most days I love the challenge of doing something 44 times!!!

I plan to continue the rest of this year and when September rolls around again I will decide if a year of Daily 45s is on tap or if it is time to do something else.  Who knows?!  I might still be doing Daily _____  when I’m 75!!!!

Oh, and I guess this is also my 500th day in a row to write a blog post since that is sort-of part of my goal, too!!!  At some point I might switch to weekly updates on the daily moves but for now I enjoy posting everyday so I’m just going to keep going!!!

Do you have any Daily Streaks?

Happy Tuesday!!

Today I did a whole lotta’  kicking for my 43.  I started with 43 x a right side kick and went right into 43 x right front kick, left back kick.  Then I started over with 43 x a left side kick followed by 43 x left front kick, right back kick.

(side note – demo was after my workout was completely done – my legs were tired and sort of flailing!!!)

I did an old favorite today – Les Mills Combat – Combat 60, Extreme Cardio Fighter.  I love this hour long workout full of punching, kicking and lots of cardio.  The last segment (before the cool down) is some core work – always a bonus!!!

Building up Our Memory Banks

Today’s 43 was inspired by one of my Turbo Fire workouts from the past week.  I did a speed bag move on the right and then kicked with my left leg.   Of course, after finishing 43, I had to switch sides and do another set with the speed bag on my left and a right kick.  (imaginary speed bag!!)

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SrYWJ1pm3E’]

I wore my weighted gloves to add a little to the speed bag challenge – I think they only weight a pound each but at least it was something!  This was a fun 43!!!

I feel like I haven’t done much weight training lately so I decided to do Les Mills Pump.  I did Pump and Burn which is one of the shorter workouts (just over 30 minutes).  Probably a good choice since I finished about 30 minutes ago and my arms are still shaking!!!  I think there’s a good chance that I will be sore tomorrow!!

The past week, the boys and I have spent almost every minute together during our trip to TX while Chris was on his own trip for work.  I started thinking about all the things we have done and how much we have laughed together – a lot!!!  Knowing that my boys are having fun and that we can all laugh together makes me HAPPY!!!

I watch the boys and know that when they are grown and no longer live  with us they will have 1000s of happy memories from the time spent at home and with their family!!!

Whether we are spending hours together in a car, playing one of the 100s of games that we have played over the years (Monopoly, Life, Uno, Skip-Bo, Head Bandz……..), sharing a meal together

or just hanging out – I want the boys to keep storing up these fun/happy memories!!!

Last night we added more memories!!  A week of firework fun has begun!!!

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_Rp7azuDgs’]

So, even though sometimes I have to give up things that I would like to do – FitBloggin’ conference  – in the big picture, the things that matter are these everyday fun times that I get to be part of with my boys!!!

There are huge chunks of my growing up years that I have completely blocked from my memory and I want to make sure that my boys have full memory banks of awesome family times!!!

And, the bonus of building up the boys happy memory banks is that I’m also building up my own memory bank with lots of incredible experiences!!!

I can’t wait to see what we add to our “banks” today!!!  Probably some time at the swim beachSwim BeachDefinitely more fireworks tonight!!!

And above all – laughter, happiness and LOVE!!!

What are you putting in your memory bank today?

Happy Sunday!!!

Saturday Morning Sights

Today I did a fun 43.  This one worked my core and hip flexors!!!  Lots of steps go into each rep so bullets today:

  • Right front kick
  • standing crunch (little tuck)
  • right side kick
  • standing crunch
  • right back kick
  • standing crunch
  • left front kick
  • standing crunch
  • left side kick
  • standing crunch
  • left back kick
  • jack feet (jump out and in)

See the pattern?  So the above is 1 rep and I did 43 – it went faster than you might think!

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFIg2xM76EY’]

I just kept my hands in the “on guard” position while I did this – you could do whatever you like with your hands!!!

Today was the 1 and only rest day in the 30 day Insanity Asylum program and I decided to take advantage of it!!!  I thought about trying to push myself to go outside and run but instead spent some time with my family.

We went downtown this morning to the Farmer’s Market!

A few of the sights in Topeka today:MotorcycleSome type of motorcycle ralley – lots of bikes lined up ready to go.  Sort of cool to see so many in one place.

State CapitalThe Kansas State Capital – always some kind of work being done on it!!!  Can you see the figure on the top?  I think it is a Native American shooting an arrow.

Farmer's MarketOne of the rows at the Farmer’s Market – a little disappointing today since there was very little in the way of produce (or anything other than crafts)!  Oh, well – still fun to walk around.Screen shot 2013-06-01 at 10.50.00 AMOur only purchase of the day – fresh blueberry pie (this was Chris & Hunter’s choice!).

Screen shot 2013-06-01 at 10.30.08 AMApparently there is a carnival in town this weekend!! Who knew?!  Might have to go check it out later today!

BirdAnd, look at this bird.  It was just roosting on the gutter drain on our front porch.  I opened the door, took the picture and closed the door and the bird never flew away.  Jordan and I thought it was sick or hurt but after a few minutes she finally flew away.  Kind of weird – I think that’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to a bird!

What are some of your Saturday morning sights?

Happy Saturday!!

What’s Your Favorite Exercise or Move?

Today is my 180th consecutive day of the daily 43!!!  I’m enjoying my daily adventures and have so many ideas but I’m always looking for new things – please share any moves or exercises that you think would make a fun 43.  Thanks!!

For the 43 today I did a front-kick and back-kick combo.  (I already did a similar move except last time it was the same leg that kicked front & back.)  So,  today I did a right front kick and a left back kick for the first set of 43 and then switched and did a left front kick and right back kick for another 43.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1s6Mp4fdD0′]

This was a good 43 after yesterday’s brutal one!!!

Today I tried another Cathe DVD – XTrain – Tabatacise!!  I did all 5 of the Tabatas and Bonus Core #1.  This workout is on my list of favorites (I know it’s a longish list but….)!  Even though the Tabatas are intense, the time flies by (especially the 10 second recovery!!).  If you like to jump – this workout is definitely for you!!!

(Tabata training is a form of HIIT – high intensity interval training.  It is a 4 minute segment consisting of 20 seconds of super high intensity followed by 10 seconds of recovery.)

Yesterday afternoon I convinced Chris and Jordan to try the 3 ball push-up.  Hunter was going to try but once he put his hands on the ball he realized that his wrist (he broke it the end of July) still wasn’t quite strong enough.

OK - I'm balanced - now what?

Chris did 10 (without falling off in between any of them!).

I think Jordan did 2 but he may have just done 1.  Either way – Good job, guys!!!

I really am open to ideas/suggestions for exercises – I love to try new moves or a classic move in a different way.  Feel free to send me links to some of your favorites!

Happy Thursday!
