Thankful for the Things I CAN Do!! (11/23 – 11/29)

This week I decided to push myself a bit even if it “hurt” and I ended up feeling very thankful for all that my body is capable of doing!!!

Sunday 11/23  45 calf pulses with feet front, feet out and feet in.

I just bounced up and down – this was a fun way to work my calves!!!

Since this was such an easy move I decided 3 sets of 45 was good!

Monday 11/24  45 double crunches with feet on a chair (lift butt while crunching up).

I decided to try running some this week.
Today started with a 3 mile walk/jog followed by 5 slow miles of running and a mile cool-down.

Tuesday 11/25  45 plie squat on upside down wobble balls.

I did one of my favorite workouts ever – Les Mills Combat:  Extreme Cardio Fighter – 60 minutes of a super fun workout!!!

Wednesday 11/26  45 bridges with alternating foot lift and touch (right – left = 1 rep).

Return to start and switch sides –

This was a challenge to keep my butt up the entire time!!!

I decided to try running again.
2 miles of walking/jogging  followed by 5 miles at a moderate pace and an easy mile cool-down.

Thursday 11/27  45 pulsing lunges with feet on upside down wobble balls.

This move was a challenge because of the balance aspect!!!  (The hardest part was getting set up on the wobble balls!!!)  After I did the first set, I switched around and put the other foot on the front ball.

I think this is the first Thanksgiving in at least 5 years (probably way more!!) that I didn’t do a hard workout in the morning!!!

Friday 11/28  45 butt lifts with legs up and a medicine ball (8 pounds) in between feet.

I’m happy that I didn’t drop the ball on my face!!!

I ran 7 miles (57:51) and then did an easy mile cool down.

Saturday 11/29  45 twisting crunches on a stability ball while holding an 8 pound medicine ball.

You can see that the move is a twist to each side and then a crunch.  This was a great core workout!!!

Overall, I’m happy with this week of workouts.  The running is slow and sort of painful but it is good for my mental state!!!

Happy Saturday!

My Version of Super Sunday!!!

Today’s 44 was fun because I walked around while I did it (trying to get 10,000 steps on my FitBit you know!!!).  I used my medicine ball with a handle –

8 pouncs
8 pounds

With the medicine ball, I did single arm bicep curls while walking!

I know – the mirror pictures are pretty pitiful!!!  But walking around while curling was a fun way to make the 44 on each side go quickly!!

Today is my 2nd day in a row to take a break from working out – rare for me to take more than 1 day at a time but I figured I needed to make sure I recovered from Friday’s 37 mile run – so 2 days now instead of risking injury and having to skip lots of days!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Today I did one of my least favorite moves for my 44 – a Russian twist with a medicine ball.  I think I don’t like the move because it makes me dizzy!

I counted a rep as hitting the ground on the right side, the left side and back to the right.

Then I did a quick run – 1.5% incline – 5.13 miles (because for some reason I had an odd # in my running log and needed to round it out before the end of the year!) in 32:56 + 0.75 cool down.

Even big boys still leave milk and cookies for Santa!!

I hope all y’all have someone special to spend your day with!

Is it a Compliment when you add a Qualifier?

Today I did a basic move for my 44 but I added in a challenge by holding an 8 pound medicine ball straight above my head the whole time!  I did alternating forward lunges (a right lunge and left = 1 rep) with the ball overhead.

This move was great because I felt it in my legs, my arms were shaking and I got my heart rate up!!!

I also did one of my 10 Minute Solution DVDs – Sculpt, Tone and Reshape with the Figure 8.

I like the format of this workout – it is a total body workout with toning and some cardio.  Each of the segments goes by very quickly and there are some fun moves!

Have you ever gotten a compliment that you’re not sure if it was really intended to be a compliment?

I’m sure that most everyone has at some point.

Screen shot 2013-11-20 at 6.43.42 AM

My least favorite – “You look good, for your age.”  Why does that last little bit (the qualifier) need to be added on?  That makes me feel like A. I’m old and B. I don’t really look good at all.

Last night while I was getting my hair done, Jennifer (my hair dresser for over 12 years!) told me about a “compliment” she had gotten over the weekend.

She was at a store and had on some new boots and a cute top.  A girl (complete stranger) said, “You could be on a magazine as a plus size model.”

Really?!  She couldn’t have just left that last part off?

I’m sure that I’ve added a qualifier to compliments before but I’m going to start really paying attention to how I word compliments!!!

What compliments have you been given with qualifiers?
Did you still feel like it was a compliment?

Happy Wednesday!!

What Would You Do If…..

Today’s 44 was a fun “twist” on the Russian twist.  I used a medicine ball with handles –

8 pounds

Holding the medicine ball with both hands, I twisted side-to-side, back to the middle and pressed the ball straight out.

My abs/core were on fire by the time I finished all 44 reps!!!

Some “fun” situations – how would you react?

1.  At a party (or wedding reception) you drop an entire piece of chocolate cake on the floor.

not from the venue but you get the idea!

Yesterday I learned that some people don’t pick up dropped cake, they prefer to grind it into the floor.  An entire piece – all ground into the floor – fun times to scrub!!!

2.  A telemarketer calls AGAIN!!!

Screen shot 2013-09-20 at 6.37.20 AM

Chris takes great pride in trying to get telemarketers to hang up on him.  The other night this poor girl called (no idea what she was representing!) and Chris started off by asking her why there was such a delay from when he answered and said hello (3x) before she responded.  He told her that she should probably put in a work order for that.  Finally he asked her what she called about and when she started her spill he said – “Hey, we own an event venue.  I’ll give you the website and maybe you can check it out.  Where are you calling from?  (Oklahoma City)  Great – that’s only 4 hours away.  Maybe y’all can come up for a work party.”  She hung up!

When the boys were little and telemarketers called, Chris would pass the phone to one of the boys and let them talk.  He’s never rude to the people, he just entertains himself.

3.  You forget what time you are supposed to pick your son/daughter/whoever up.

Epic mom fail – I knew it was early release and that I was picking Hunter up so we could get his new glasses but I had the times mixed up (should have put it in my master calendar!!).  Thankfully Hunter was really sweet about it!!!

What are some of your “what would you do” situations this week?

Happy Fun Friday!!!  Football game tonight – WooHoo!
