Daily Doubles (2/15 – 2/21)

This week was all about running double digit miles every day and I’m happy to say that I did it and still feel good!!!

Sunday 2/15  45 bent over wide row with resistance band.

Monday 2/16  45 bicep curl with resistance band while in boat pose.

I liked the core challenge while working my biceps!!!

Tuesday 2/17  45 bicycle with band (handles on feet).

I counted a right-left as 1 rep.

Wednesday 2/18  45 push-ups with hands on yoga blocks.

I could tell that I haven’t been doing push-ups very often lately.  In a month I will be back to doing lots more strength work!!!

Thursday 2/19  45 double tricep kickbacks with resistance band.

I had a hard time keeping my elbows up while doing this move.

Friday 2/20  45 full sit-up keeping arms extended and holding a small ball – Firm Ball

Holding the ball helped me keep my arms extended the entire time.

And, it was finally a day off!!!

All of my 45s were either upper body or core because my legs were getting enough of a beating with the running!

6 days of consecutive double digit runs!!
63 miles hard + 5.25 easy miles for a total of 68 miles this week!!!

37 Miles of Running (and it was GOOD!!)

Today’s 44 was a fairly simple move but definitely one that works a lot of  muscles.  I took my resistance band and put the loops on my feet then pulled the middle up to my chest.

(Drill weekend makes it hard to get pictures – Chris leaves early and the boys are still sleeping!!!)

The move was great for working my abs (entire core actually) and my hip flexors which are a little bit sore from yesterday.  I counted a right leg down and left leg down as 1 rep.

Yesterday morning after a poor night of sleep thanks to an incredibly loud crash at 2:05 am and time spent wandering through the house to try and find the source, Chris found out what it was when he left at 5:30 am.  See the patch job on that fence? 

DSCN0176Well, the fence was put up a couple of years ago to surround a generator of some sort that the city/county/someone put in our yard (for the entire lake neighborhood).  Anyway, the generator is pretty damaged right now thanks to someone crashing into the fence and it at 2:05 am Friday morning – kind of scary!!!

The morning continued by throwing another curveball into my plans.  Hunter came upstairs with a nosebleed (he gets them fairly often) and this was the kind that wouldn’t stop.  Poor boy!!  His nose bled from 6:30 until about 7:30.  We usually leave at 7:20 for school and he hadn’t even been able to eat breakfast.

So, I took Jordan and came back for Hunter (the middle school and high school are pretty much side-by-side and start within 10 minutes of each other).   The worst part for Hunter was the fact that his team (they have teams at the middle school) was leaving at 8:30 to go to an elementary school for READ Day.  Thankfully he was better when I got back home so I took him to school (he ended up having another nosebleed when he got there but made it to his class by 8:25!!).

I started my run a little later than I had planned to but it all worked out!!!

Plenty of time to watch movies/DVRed TV while running 37 miles – I watched You Again (with Jamie Lee Curtis), What to Expect When You’re Expecting (super cute), finally watched Sean & Catherine get married on The Bachelor Wedding (it was very awkward at times!!!), and the latest episode of Dance Moms!!!

And just a short 5 hours and 23 minutes later, this happened!!!

This was truly the best mega run I’ve had in a long time.  I ran the entire way (no walking) and other than achey knees and sore feet, I felt strong for all 37 miles!!!

I’m glad that I did the virtual race – I know that the entry fee went to a good cause and it was fun to think about Kristin doing the same distance out in CA (we actually ran almost the exact same time – she was a minute faster in 5:22) plus it was good for my long distance running mojo!!!

Thank You, Friends!!!!

Today was another resistance band move for the 44.  The move is a twist and designed to work your core but because you have to hold the band up in front of you it also is a great shoulder burner!!!

Oh – I counted a full rotation (right-left-right) as 1 rep.

Because I’m trying to work through some of my workout DVDs that I don’t do very often – I pulled out one today that I haven’t done in years.

This one is funny because it’s made up of 3 segments (I did all 3 for just over an hour long workout) but you can tell that each segment was a 30 minute TV workout at one point (obvious when they had a cut to commercial!).  It is more old school aerobics (lots of grapevine, step touch, the pony….) but it is all worth it because of the views!!

But now it’s back to reality and 19 degree temps outside!!!  Oh, well it was nice for an hour!!!

Chris’ response yesterday was that I can’t let those failed friendships control me because it is a 2-way street and when the other party doesn’t make any effort to maintain or reconcile a friendship then there is nothing I can do. 

The overwhelming response yesterday was the fact that effort should be made on both parts and I agree 100%!!

Even without knowing the entire back story I felt like many of you understood the situation perfectly – a lot of you because you have had a similar experience for which I’m very sorry because I know it is hard!!!

The Elusive Quest for Sleep

For today’s 44 I used a resistance band and did a wide curl to a shoulder press.  I had to keep my feet fairly close together to complete all the reps on the overhead press portion!

Don’t mind the sweat – I had to do the demo after my workout since the boys are still in vacation mode!!!

I did my final run of  2013 this morning.  
1.5% incline – 5miles in 34:49 + 1 easy cool down mile

And, actually, you would think that something as natural and necessary as sleep would be easy!  However, in my world, there is nothing easy about sleep.

I’ve read hundreds of articles that give tips for better sleep and tried pretty much all of the tips.

  • daily exercise (YEP!!)
  • keep the room cool – I try!
  • follow a schedule – almost all the time
  • don’t eat late 
  • and on and on and on…..

The other day I even dragged Chris (and the boys – they loved it) into the Sleep Number store.Screen Shot 2013-12-30 at 9.01.09 AM

Lately my back aches most of the time so I thought maybe a Sleep Number bed would help and since I get hot at night and Chris doesn’t I looked at the new dual temp pad also.

Then we saw a price list!!!  Ummm….I don’t think a Sleep Number bed is the answer!

Chris keeps telling me to take Ambien but I would rather not (not sure why?!).

Lately, besides not being able to sleep, I spend most of the night feeling crummy – maybe because I’m tired and my body needs sleep?!  I don’t know what the deal is but I’m over it!!

Chris is pretty much the opposite of me – he falls asleep within minutes and stays asleep all night long (what a novel idea!)!!  All the little noises and things that bug me are completely unknown to him!
