Some Days You Have to Laugh

This week was full of those little incidences that you have to just laugh about to keep from getting stressed!!!

Monday – I was hoping to watch some of the Boston Marathon – Screen Shot 2015-04-23 at 8.33.13 PMBut, after spending the morning cleaning the venue, I had enough time to drive home, catch the final 5 minutes of the men’s race, shower and get back to the venue for a meeting.

At the meeting , the couple brought in a baby and a 7 year old girl (she wasn’t in school because she had been sent home earlier that day with pink eye) – the guy told me they were all sick – after I shook hands with everyone!!!Screen Shot 2015-04-23 at 8.48.19 PM

Tuesday – I had my 3 month check with the dermatologist after having some skin cancer removed.  Before I left his office he had used some weird thing to “freeze” about 10 spots off my hands and face and taken a scalpel to a spot on my back to test a “worrisome” spot.

Normally when we have events at the venue I don’t stay.  However, Tuesday evening we had an event that I had to stay for.  Driving home I couldn’t figure out why it seemed like the Topeka drivers were worse than normal.  When I finally got close to home (it is about 20 minutes driving through town) I realized that somehow the know had gotten turned and I was driving without lights on – OOPS!!!

Thursday – I had a full morning of ironing tablecloths lined up.  About 45 minutes into my ironing/book on CD  one of our tenants text me that a squirrel had made a nest inside the wall/ceiling of her apartment.

Not a picture from today - I didn't climb 3 stories up a ladder to see the actual nest!

Almost 2 hours and a full education on squirrels later (thank you Critter Control) I was finally back to ironing for the event that afternoon  – thankfully I finished with over an hour to spare.

See – sometimes it is good to just laugh at all the petty stuff that happens.

What things did you choose to laugh at this week instead of letting them cause you stress?

Happy Friday!!

Scared (maybe scarred) into Changing my Ways

For as long as I can remember I have LOVED the sun!!!

I love the heat that the sun provides and I LOVE laying out in the sun (on the beach!) with a book!!!

But….as with many things in life I’m going to have to make some changes.

Earlier in the fall I had a few spots biopsied and one of them was skin cancer so 2 weeks ago I had a minor surgery to remove it.

The past couple of weeks I’ve had 8 stitches in my arm and haven’t been able to do any lifting (weights, chairs/tables at the venue, Christmas trees and other decorations…..).

Yesterday (Tuesday) I had the stitches out and my first blue light treatment for all of the precancerous spots I have (they are pretty much all over my body!!!).

The first step was easy – the DR just rubbed a medicine all over the tops of my hands and arms.  Then the tech wrapped my arms in Saran wrap and put gloves on me for the next 5 hours.Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 8.47.03 PM

When I went back in the afternoon the hard part of the treatment started.  They call it the “blue light” but from now on I might call it HELL!!!  Basically the light burned the shit out of my hands and arms!Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 8.47.16 PM

Even after 5 hours my hands are still burning and swollen.  It made for a very cranky evening in my world because I couldn’t even block the burning/pain sensation.

Knowing that the next time I have this same treatment will be in a little over a month and on my face sort of scares me.  I think it scares me enough to say that my days of soaking up the sun are done (or at least much more limited!!!).

Do you love laying in the sun?
Ever had skin cancer?
Would you do the “blue light treatment” on your face?  (I’m not sure if I will do it even though it is already scheduled.)

Happy Wednesday!!!

Do NOT Google Pictures of Skin Cancer

A couple weeks ago I went to the dermatologist.  At my annual wellness check-up earlier this year my doctor suggested that maybe I should since I sort of LOVE the sun!!!

Well, I had a few spots that he (dermatologist) decided to biopsy.  He said it was no big deal – just a shot in each spot (3) and then a razor blade that would scrape out a little bit of skin.Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 8.49.43 PM

Hmm…I told him I would schedule it on my way out.  NOPE – he was planning to do the biopsies right then.  NICE!!!

Here is the picture I posted on instagram after I escaped –Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 8.51.05 PM1 in my left hand and 2 in my left bicep.   2 weeks later and the areas are finally starting to heal!!

However, last week the nurse called me and apparently one of the spots on my arm is skin cancer (the other 2 are pre-cancerous spots).

Now they want to dig into my arm.  The nurse said that I would have stitches for 2 weeks and not be able to lift anything (weights, chairs at the venue, laundry baskets…..) for those 2 weeks plus a week after.

I said, “OK, I will just run more.”

She said I couldn’t run either or do anything that would cause me to sweat.

So I told her –  NO THANK YOU!!!

Her response was to just eat less for a few weeks – clearly she doesn’t know that it isn’t about eating it is about needing to sweat pretty much every day!!!

Then I made the mistake of googling skin cancer images – YUCK!!!

I’m going to spare you all of the nasty horrible pictures.

Our plan has been to retire to the beach in a few years (hopefully less than 10!!!) – I hope this plan doesn’t have to change!!!

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 at 9.00.33 PMI guess I will have to buy stock in sunscreen!!!

Do you go to the dermatologist regularly?
I guess I will be from this point on:(

Happy Wednesday!!

Kim

BTW – I’m going to suck it up and let them dig in my arm but I still plan to figure out ways to workout during that time!!!
