Resting and Running (9/7-9/13)

This week was mostly about 44s and resting!!

Sunday 9/7 44 cross body obliques (standing) – knee to elbow.

I tried to stay balanced on one leg the entire time I was doing this move – sort of a challenge!!  And, I had to do the other side!

I like moves like this – and I love that Jordan is doing homework in the background without a shirt!!!

I did an easy 4 mile run just to shake my legs out a bit!!!

Monday 9/8  44 crunches while laying on the foam roller.

This move was sort of nice on the down part as a stretch!!!

Tuesday 9/9  44 chest fly in crunch position with a band.  This move is one I adapted from Stuft Mama.

Basically I just opened my arms to the side and then up in front while holding my core tight the entire time!!

Wednesday 9/10  44 side lying scissors with legs.

I counted a right leg on top and right leg back as 1 rep.  This move really worked my hips because I kept my legs off the ground the entire time.

And, of course, I had to flip over and get the other side!!

And, I ran a race – The Patriot’s Run.Screen Shot 2014-09-13 at 6.39.33 AM

I didn’t get my goal (50 miles) but I run over a marathon and then called it a day (thoughts on the race on Monday!).

Friday 9/12  44 seated leg extensions.

This 44 almost didn’t happen.  Chris and I had to go to Wichita to get stuff for his uniform at the BX and then I sort of forgot.  Better to get it done at 10:00 pm than never!!!

Saturday 9/13  44 3 part stretch.

I did this early this morning before we left for Hunter’s very cold cross country meet which is why I have on about 3 layers of clothes!!  The stretch was just what I needed after running Thursday and spending over 4 hours in the car on Friday.

Happy Saturday!!!  (cold here – I hope this isn’t a sign of the coming winter weather!!)

Kim

Thank You, Thank You!!

Today’s 44 was a nice stretch/resistance move.  I used some rubber tubing –

and did a side lying kick.

By pulling the band tight, this was a nice little strength move that also felt pretty good on my hips!!  And, of course, I had to flip over and do another set of 44.

I’m ready to start getting in some fun workouts again – a couple days off is always plenty for me!!!

Today was Garage Boot Camp – we did Tabata!!!  This is always a great way to get in a really intense workout in a short amount of time and like I always tell myself – you can do anything for 20 seconds!!!!

Screen shot 2013-10-15 at 6.55.18 AMThe past couple of days have been a little overwhelming – I have been completely humbled by all of the sweet comments from so many of you and don’t feel like I have the words to adequately express how much I appreciate each and every one of you!!!

Screen shot 2013-10-15 at 6.59.20 AMMore than the act of blogging –  I love the wonderful bloggers that I have gotten to know!!!

A couple of y’all even gave me shout-outs in your posts the past day or two and while I feel very undeserving I also want to say Thank-you!!!

Amy @ Run Write Hike is fixing to rock yet another marathon this coming weekend and she was so sweet to include me in a list of inspirational races this past weekend.

Debbie @ Healthy Running Mom who just got a huge PR on Sunday at the Chicago Marathon said I helped keep her motivated during her marathon (good thing she didn’t know at the time that I hadn’t finished!!).

My sister, Mandi, has a blog that she updates occasionally – hopefully she will start to blog more soon (she is pregnant with her 2nd child!!!) – hint, hint.  Yesterday she wrote the sweetest post about running  – just thinking about it is making me cry (again!!).

And thanks to those of y’all who so very sweet to tweet me even though I suck at the whole twitter thing!!!  Cori, Amy, Barbara

Thank you also to so many of my real life friends who commented through FaceBook – some of you I see often and some not as often as I would like but I am very grateful to all of y’all!!!

And, of course, Chris who has hung out with me the past couple of days and just let me cry or vent when I felt like it and watched hours of Modern Family – so much more fun to be a bum with someone else!!!

So, again, I just want to thank all of y’all for not only listening to me go on and on about the race last week but for taking the time to read about my experience at the race and to leave such encouraging comments!!!  The incredible blogging community is why I love spending time blogging every single day!!!

Happy Tuesday!!!

Kim

I’m Way too Old to Stay up till Midnight!!!

This morning’s 43 was nice because even though it worked my arms and upper back a little, and it was  a nice stretch (which felt good after a week full of lots of plank work!!).

I just did a lying pull-over with a dumbbell (15 pound).

I tried to keep all 43 at a nice steady pace so there wasn’t any jerking.  This move really did feel pretty good through my shoulders and upper back (plus, I will take all the work I can get on my triceps!!).

Today was a double Boot Camp day – 6:00 (backyard) and 7:15 (beach) – I love starting my day outside with exercise and friends!!!  Today’s workout was all about moving and was FULL of squats and lunges of all types – it was AWESOME!!  And – my legs are still shaking an hour after finishing the 2nd round!!!

Last night was a lot of fun – we had plenty of great food, Texas Margaritas, friends and lots of fireworks!!!

4th of JulyAround dusk, Hunter decided it was time to bring out the big guns in terms of firecrackers.  He started with a tube that had 4000 firecrackers:

A short time later he decided it was time to light the really big roll – an 8000 round of firecrackers.

Good times!!!

Jordan had a plan and with the help of Hunter, Nick, Alex and Chris – they put on a great show for us!!

Between the show on our driveway, the lake show and the shows by several of our neighbors – we saw lots of great fireworks.  No major issues or injuries so it was a successful night overall!!!

How's this for a great family picture?!
How’s this for a great family picture?!

The only downside to the entire thing?  It was close to midnight when I went to bed and then it took me a long time to fall asleep.  5:15 came way too early this morning!!!

Oh, well – small price to pay for a night of fun!!!  And, I plan to spend some time on the swim beach today soaking up the sun so I can relax/nap then!!!

What did you do to celebrate the 4th of July?  Do you shoot off fireworks?

Growing up I never did but I love doing it (well, watching the boys) now!!!

Happy Friday!!

Kim
