I am a 44 year old wife, mom and athlete. I started running in high school and have loved it ever since. As I got older, I had to stop running every day so I added in weight training and all sorts of fun work-outs like Insanity, P90X and Turbo Fire. I'm a certified personal trainer and I love all aspects of fitness.

Runners Run

My 43 today involved this innocent looking band

Innocent – I think not!

I put it around my ankles

Ready to work

So far, no big deal.  Then…I laid on my right side and did 43 leg lifts.  The bands became a deadly weapon at this point!!!  I held each lift at the top for a few seconds and then only lowered my leg to the point just before the tension would be released.  My outer hip/thigh was dying!!!

Hold at the top!!!
Keep the tension!!

Of course, I had to switch to my left side and do a second 43 so that I could feel the pain equally!!

After  completing the torture 43, I decided to run.  I don’t see the doctor for almost 3 more weeks about my hip and that is too long to wait!  We all know – RUNNERS RUN!!!

I did 9 miles in 53:39 and then did another 2.3 at an easier pace with a steep incline.  Running makes me happy even when it hurts!

Tonight is hair night – WooHoo!!!

Happy Tuesday!

Warriors

My boys probably wish that we were warriors but I’m talking about….YOGA! I might have mentioned before that I spent years avoiding yoga – I just didn’t view it as a true work-out – I wanted to get my heart rate up and sweat!!!!  Well, over the past couple of years I’ve learned that yoga is hard!!!! I still don’t do it regularly but I occasionally add it into the mix and I enjoy (in a psychotic kind-of way) it.

The 43 was a combination of yoga poses that I tried to hold long enough to really get some shake in my legs!!!  I started with chair pose, then Warrior 1 – Warrior 2 – Warrior 3 and back to chair.  I alternated legs but only did a total of 43 not 43 per side.  I figured that it was better to take my time and actually hold the poses than it was to rush through as many as I could.  43 seemed way more manageable than 86!!!!

Somehow I have gone longer than I planned since the last time I lifted weights – maybe subbing, birthday, friends over…..life!  Anyway, today I did Chalean Extreme (Beach Body) Push Circuit 1.  For the first time ever, I used 20 pound dumbbells for bicep curls!!! (I can barely lift my water cup now but that’s over-rated anyway!!)

Chris is off (Happy Veterans Day, Babe!) so I think we will spend the day together!

Happy Birthday today to my Poppa – 98!!!! Wish I could spend the day with him – if only Texas weren’t so far away!!!

Keeping it Real

We had extra boys at our house last night!  😀 When I went downstairs to work-out this is what I saw:

Taken Over by the Boys!!

I decided to take my 43 to the treadmill.  I’m a little sore from yesterday’s M100 challenge so I thought I would just walk.  Then I decided that was too boring and plain so I made up a little arm work-out to go along with the walking.

I walked 43 minutes (3 miles) at a 5% incline.  I held 3 pound dumbbells and did the following series of exercises: (2 times during the 43 minutes)

  • overhead press x 43
  • alternate punches x 43 (86 total because right/left counted as one)
  • lateral raises x 43
  • bicep curls with my arms extended out to the sides x 43
  • hold arms extended straight out at sides 43 seconds
  • kick-backs x 43
  • zip-ups x 43
  • press backs x 43
  • hold arms extended straight overhead x 43
  • rows x 43

I made the little demo after I finished walking and then almost didn’t use it because I look like a total dork who maybe had too much birthday cake!!!  However, I said from the time I started this blog that it would always be real – therefore, the lovely video!!

I’m not gonna lie – it was harder than I thought to walk and do the exercises with weights.  It really got my heart-rate up which is always a bonus and I didn’t fall off of the treadmill – Score!!!

Have a super Sunday!! Cold and wet here today – I think I will shower, put on my sweats and chill with the family!

M100s Are NO Joke!!!

Today I purposefully tried to pick a fairly easy 43 because I knew what was coming!!!

The 43 was just an oblique crunch with opposite elbow to knee.  I counted 1 rep as a crunch to the right and a crunch to the left – technically 86 crunches!!!

After the 43 I moved on to the true challenge of the day.

This past summer my younger brother, Sam, and his family came to visit.  Sam introduced Hunter to the M100 (M100).  Hunter usually does an M30 because he is still strengthening his wrist that he broke the end of the summer.

The breakdown for an M100:

  • 10 burpees
  • 10 mountain climbers (4 equals 1 so 40 actually makes each 10)
  • 10 double squat jumps
  • Repeat 3x
  • 10 burpees
These are done quickly with no break in between. The following video gives more information and a demo.

Earlier this week, Hunter and I were talking about the M100 and I said I could do 5 in a row.  He said, “No way!!!”  Well, that is all I needed!! It was totally on from there!  I sent Sam a text and told him it was on for Saturday – he was a doubter, too.
So, earlier this morning….this took place:

(Skip at least the 1st minute – Chris is not familiar with my camera and he recorded in the wrong mode – no way was I doing the whole thing again though!!!) Actually the video is just plain bad but I put it in for proof for the doubters – Sam!!
5 M100s in 19:22!!!
Hunter now thinks I rock!!!
Have a great Saturday!!
It will be a great day here – Jordan is 14!!  Happy Birthday (see post under family).
