I am a 44 year old wife, mom and athlete. I started running in high school and have loved it ever since. As I got older, I had to stop running every day so I added in weight training and all sorts of fun work-outs like Insanity, P90X and Turbo Fire. I'm a certified personal trainer and I love all aspects of fitness.

Thankful for the Things I CAN Do!! (11/23 – 11/29)

This week I decided to push myself a bit even if it “hurt” and I ended up feeling very thankful for all that my body is capable of doing!!!

Sunday 11/23  45 calf pulses with feet front, feet out and feet in.

I just bounced up and down – this was a fun way to work my calves!!!

Since this was such an easy move I decided 3 sets of 45 was good!

Monday 11/24  45 double crunches with feet on a chair (lift butt while crunching up).

I decided to try running some this week.
Today started with a 3 mile walk/jog followed by 5 slow miles of running and a mile cool-down.

Tuesday 11/25  45 plie squat on upside down wobble balls.

I did one of my favorite workouts ever – Les Mills Combat:  Extreme Cardio Fighter – 60 minutes of a super fun workout!!!

Wednesday 11/26  45 bridges with alternating foot lift and touch (right – left = 1 rep).

Return to start and switch sides –

lift right hand - reach with left hand

This was a challenge to keep my butt up the entire time!!!

I decided to try running again.
2 miles of walking/jogging  followed by 5 miles at a moderate pace and an easy mile cool-down.

Thursday 11/27  45 pulsing lunges with feet on upside down wobble balls.

This move was a challenge because of the balance aspect!!!  (The hardest part was getting set up on the wobble balls!!!)  After I did the first set, I switched around and put the other foot on the front ball.

I think this is the first Thanksgiving in at least 5 years (probably way more!!) that I didn’t do a hard workout in the morning!!!

Friday 11/28  45 butt lifts with legs up and a medicine ball (8 pounds) in between feet.

I’m happy that I didn’t drop the ball on my face!!!

I ran 7 miles (57:51) and then did an easy mile cool down.

Saturday 11/29  45 twisting crunches on a stability ball while holding an 8 pound medicine ball.

You can see that the move is a twist to each side and then a crunch.  This was a great core workout!!!

Overall, I’m happy with this week of workouts.  The running is slow and sort of painful but it is good for my mental state!!!

Happy Saturday!

I’ve Been off Track but It’s Time to Turn Things Around!

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 5.44.43 AM

I can’t remember where I saw this last week but it is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately!!

I feel like when I first started blogging I had a clear cut vision and a goal of trying to be a better version of myself each day.  I took steps every day to try and achieve that goal.

For the past couple of months I feel like I haven’t done a very good job of this at all.  I have been on a downward spiral with no personal improvement.

Screen Shot 2014-11-23 at 8.59.03 PM

Starting today, I’m going to get back on the path to improving myself each day.  I know that a lot of this change will be a mindset –  I need to get back to my positive mindset and let go of a lot of the negativity I’ve been harboring lately!!!

So, here’s to getting back on track and working each day to become the very best version of me possible!!!

Do you ever feel like you get knocked off track and then struggle along aimlessly?
How do you get back on course?

Happy Monday!!!

Something Is Better than Nothing

Basically this week has been one of very minimal workouts.  But…I still did a 45 everyday!!!

Sunday 11/16  45 low duck walks.

Duck Walk

Duck Walk

So, this is a move I actually did while we were cleaning the apartment – the layer of filth was deep and after I scrubbed all the walls I duck walked the entire perimeter of the apartment cleaning the baseboards and floor line.  (this ended up being way more than 45 duck walk steps!!!)

Can you see the dirt on the baseboard?!

Monday 11/17  45 roll-ups with one leg straight and one bent.

This was a new (to me) move and I liked it!!!

Because I new that this was one of my last chances, for a few days, I tried to run.  Didn’t happen.  I walked 4.5 miles with a 9% incline after running 2 miles super slow.

Tuesday 11/18  45 single arm reverse curls to shoulder press while standing on upside down wobble balls.

I had to work my arms since I knew it would be the last time for a few weeks!!!

I walked 6.5 miles with a 10% incline – fun times for sure!!!

Wednesday 11/19  45 raises (upper and lower) while on stomach.

I don’t work my back enough but I really liked this move!!!

Thursday 11/20  45 inner thigh lifts with foot touch (non-lifting foot on wobble ball).

Friday 11/21  45 flutter kicks while on back (right – left = 1 rep).

Saturday 11/22  45 leg extensions with the figure 8 band.

And, I had to work my left leg!!  (I held the band in my right arm still because when I tried it in my left it rubbed right over my stitches.

I’m hoping to add in a bit more next week – I hate not working out!!!

Happy Saturday!

Does 8:00 AM Mean 8:45 AM?

I have faults – lots of them!!  But, when it comes to being on time, especially for an  appointment/work, then I think it should be a given that both parties will be on time!!!

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.15.27 PM

This week has been one full of waiting on others and the sad thing is I don’t think any of the  late parties even cared that they were late.

Tuesday morning I had an 8:00 time set up for a company to come to the venue and service the furnaces (all 4 of them!).    Someone from the company finally showed up at 8:45.

Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.20.27 PM45 minutes late!!!!

When I asked him if I was going to get the first hour free he acted like that would be ridiculous.  On top of being late he didn’t even know what he was there for – Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.19.02 PM

Needless to say, I wasn’t super happy!!!

Wednesday morning I had a root canal at 9:45.  I got there early to do any paperwork and then waited and waited and waited.  At 10:15 they called me back.Screen Shot 2014-11-20 at 8.24.17 PM

Not to worry though – I think he tried to make up the time by not fully numbing me since I felt everything going on the last 20-30 minutes.  I told him it was a good thing I was a runner!!!  (I do understand that it is easy to get behind in the health profession.)

Thursday morning I had an electrician scheduled to come at 10:45 am to go through the apartment that we cleaned last weekend and that I’ve been working on all week.  (We just used this guy about 3 weeks ago – he was 15 minutes late then.)

I called at 11:00 to see if he was still coming – left a voicemail.  At 11:15 I saw his truck pull into the parking lot but he didn’t get out.  I went out and got in my truck – he was eating.  He called me and said “sorry I missed your call – I was running late.  I’m here now.”  I told him that I knew because I saw him sitting eating (35 minutes late by this point) and that I was leaving.  I said that he had been late 2x with no phone call or anything and that I didn’t have time for that type of business

He emailed me later – his version of apologizing I guess – and said he didn’t think that 15-20 minutes really made that much difference.

1.  He was over 30 minutes late.
2.  IT MATTERS!!!!  My time is important, too!!!

In addition to all  of this wasted time this week, we have also had issues with referrals from our primary care Drs office which resulted in wasted time.

I have been waiting on a couple of referrals for about 3 weeks now for my leg.  Tuesday afternoon I got a call from an office to get my information before my appoint Wednesday morning (during the time of my root canal of course!!!).

What appointment?!  So I had to reschedule for a whole week later since no one called me!!!

Chris went to the DR  a couple of weeks ago to have a spot checked out – that required a referral to the dermatologist.  He got a voicemail last week saying – “Your appointment is November 19 at 3:30.”

He went to the appointment Wednesday( November 19).  They had no idea why he was there because his real appointment is December 19.  He listened to the voicemail again – yep she said November.

This referral system is all from our primary care DR.  I called and left a message for the “referral” person to call me – still haven’t heard back.

Do you feel like people just don’t care about being on-time or treating your time like it’s valuable?!

Happy Friday!!!

Disorganization Is Sapping My Joy

Chris and the boys know that I thrive on organization. So it makes sense that when things aren’t organized, I start to deteriorate!!!Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 5.29.42 AMLately I’ve felt like I’m running around without any rhyme or reason. My desk (dining room table) is a mess – covered in stuff I need to take care of. I have little piles all over the place (something that I hate since I think everything should have a home!!!).

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 5.38.21 AM

In the past couple of weeks, several amazing bloggers nominated me for the Liebster award. I had every intention of sharing the fun of those questions but I feel like it is just one more thing I have let pile up and become a source of stress which is the opposite of what it should be.

So this is me just taking the time to say thank you to everyone who nominated me – I’m sorry I haven’t done it properly, but I just haven’t had the time. But it honestly means so much to me! I’ve worked so hard on improving my blog and making sure that people are enjoying my content. It’s been such a crazy journey, but I’ve loved every second of it – seeing how my Instagram grew with the help of Instagram growth services, and then getting more and more followers is just an amazing step. I’ve still got a lot to learn though, but blogging is my passion and I’ll make sure that I can do it!

Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 5.30.00 AM

Sometimes we get so caught up in everything going on around us that we lose the joy in life and I feel that happening in my world.

I’m going to slow down (semi-forced anyway!) and spend today (after my root canal later this morning) getting organized and making a plan so that I can enjoy the upcoming days!!!Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 5.43.56 AM

I do choose joy!! I would rather spend an evening at home playing a game with my family or even watching a DVR show together than have to spend that same evening being cranky because I’m so behind!!! (which is how last night ended!!!)

Does being disorganized cause you stress?
Have you ever had a root canal? (this will be my 2nd this year)
Ever have a forced “slow-down” day? (mine is today and tomorrow – I’m supposed to limit activity since I have stitches in my arm)

Happy Wednesday!!!

Kim
