100th Day!

Today is my 100th consecutive day of the daily 43!!! I wanted to do a 43 to reflect this milestone.  I think I accomplished my goal today!

I used my step and did a squat series.

14" double step (the Transfirmer)
14″ double step (the Transfirmer)
  • start on step – squat with feet wide
  • step left foot next to right foot – squat feet together
  • step right foot onto floor – squat
  • step right foot back on step – squat feet together
  • step left foot out – squat feet wide
  • step right foot to left – squat feet together
  • step left foot onto floor – squat
  • step left foot back on step – squat feet together

That series makes 1 rep.  I did 43 but then I kept going until I had done 100 reps!!!  (which, in case you are wondering, is a grand total of 800 squats!!)

Good times!

One of our Christmas Eve traditions is to open presents – so that will take place later today!!!  I hope the boys are happy! Christmas morning we do our stockings and then hang out and enjoy the day – usually we have friends over and play games.

Merry Christmas!!!

Kim

Jordan, You Rock!!!

Today I did something a little different (for me) with the daily 43.  I used this machine:

unsightly piece of equipment
unsightly piece of equipment

This is the Weider Platinum XP 800 by Cross Bow.  It is similar to a Bow-Flex (I think).  We have had it for years and today is the first time I have used it (I prefer dumbbells and free weights).  Chris uses it occasionally – I think.

Anyway, I did leg extensions with this today.  I set the weight/resistance to 50 and my quads were screaming by the time I had done the first 10.  By the time I reached 43 I wasn’t sure I could stand up (but clearly I made it!!!).

Start (smile - you can do this!!)
Start (smile – you can do this!!)
Extend those legs!!!
Extend those legs!!!

I’m not sure that I will be using this machine often again – kind of a pain to get set up!

I also did a little Turbo Fire today – Fire 30.  It is a challenge for me to do these work-outs and keep them low (no) impact.  The good news is, I really focus on my punches and form.  I also try to get lower in my stances and squeeze my abs harder.

After a little cardio I decided to try my plank (with arms fully extended) hold again – 3:30!!!!  That is my best yet!!!

The past week or two I have noticed that my website has been running VERY SLOWLY.  I couldn’t figure out why or how to fix it.  Last night I was messing around with it and Jordan came walking by.  I asked him what he thought.  He looked at some of the pages and decided that it was my newest page (Daily 43) that was causing the problem.  I had set it up as one long post and it probably had 70  or more videos on it.  (At this point I’m pretty sure Jordan decided that I was totally incompetent on all things computer related.)  Anyway, I deleted all of the videos and just linked the exercise to the corresponding video (per Jordan).  I think we (by we I mean Jordan) solved the problem!!!

Funny that 14-year old boys are so smart!!!  See, all that time spent on his computer has totally paid off!!!  Thank you, Jordan!!!

Tonight we are going to a Christmas Eve Eve party at some friends.  This is a yearly tradition of theirs and always a good time!!

Happy Sunday!

Kim

Breaking the Rules (barely!!)

I did a lower body 43 today and it was awesome (and hard!!).  It involved this cute little band around my ankles.

Innocent – I think not!

I  stayed in a semi-squat (just enough to feel the burn but not a true squat) and did the following:

  • 2 steps to the right
  • 2 steps left
  • 2 steps right with a left leg abduction
  • 2 steps left with a right leg abduction
  • abduction – left, right, left, right

The steps listed above = 1 rep.

43 of those and I felt all of them – especially in my outer thighs/hips.  I had to do a quick stretch 2 times before I finished all of the reps.  I did this  hip stretch:

Ouch!!!

Put all of your weight into one hip and push that hip back.  Nice!!

So, I know that this little move goes against Drs orders (non-weight bearing and blah, blah, blah) but it was less than 15 minutes and it was sooooooo great to move and work my lower body!!!

Hair night – WooHoo!!!!

Happy Tuesday!

Kim

Family Picture Day – Fun Times!!

This morning when I picked my 43, I really wanted to do something that would work my legs but it still had to be non-weight bearing.  I finally came up with a good 43 and even sitting here typing my legs are still feeling the burn – Ultimate Success!!!

I used a couple of 8 pound medicine balls for the move.  One of them I just held over my head the whole time just to add a little extra and to make sure that I didn’t try to cheat on the move by pushing off with my hands!  I started like this:

Squeeze Hard!!!

I’m just sitting on a flat stool and have the medicine ball between my knees – just holding it in place took some major effort.  Then I lifted my legs straight up (knees still bent at this point).

Squeeze and Lift

The final part of this move was to extend my legs – this was the hard part and I had to lean back a little (I figure that’s OK – I could work my core some, too!!!).

Extend and Hold

I tried to keep complete control as I reversed the move (pretty sure that a couple of the reps I just sort-of dropped my legs – oops!!).  43 – worked my legs today!!!!

Today we are going to take our annual family picture for our Christmas card.  This is always an ordeal experience to be forgotten that requires a drink (on my part) in the true joy of the Christmas season (thats what we are going with).  Jordan typically wears white Nike shorts and a white Nike T-shirt every day of the year (summer & winter) so the fact that he has to put on something different never goes over well.  Then the timer on the camera and smiles and eyes (open preferably) and poses and locations and…..Anyway, I hope we get some good shots (of tequila, maybe!) later today!!

Today is a foggy, cool day – perfect for hanging out at home as a family (and taking pictures!!!).

Foggy (view from kitchen deck)

Happy Saturday!!!

Kim

Do you take family pictures every year?  Is it an ordeal?  Any creative ideas for FUN family pictures?

No Pain, No Gain – Right?

I hope I don’t need to walk a lot later today (or sit, or stand, or…)!! The 43 totally kicked my butt – literally!!!  I also felt it in my quads and some in my hamstrings!!!

I did a variation on a workout that I pinned on Pinterest yesterday called the Designer Whey Glute Workout.  If you check out their version you will see that they did not do 43 reps so I had to adapt!!

Here is how I did my 43 with this workout.

  • 43 squats
  • 43 lunges with right leg forward
  • 43 stomps (right leg forward, hands on ground, left leg back – bring left foot front and set flat next to right foot, drop your butt, extend left leg again) – Killer!!
  • 43 Cook hip-lifts (place right heel close to butt, pull left knee to chest – lift and lower hips, like a bridge)
That was 1 complete set.  The 2nd set was the same but with the left leg.  3rd set was right leg again and 4th set left leg.

(For the demo I only did 5 reps on 1 side – no need for you to watch me killing myself!!!)

I thought about only doing 2 sets but in the actual work-out they said 4 sets (of 20 only!!!!) so I figured I should  push myself (HARD) and do  all 4 sets.  Maybe now I will have a “designer butt”!!

I’m sure by tonight I will regret my decision but who knows – maybe all the trips I have to make up-and-down the stairs to do the laundry today will help work out the soreness and shakiness!

Yesterday when Chris got home from Drill I was sort-of cranky.  Solution:

Because Chris knows me well, he automatically goes to the ultra safe!!!  (he didn’t even have to see this cute little chart).

I think I will make a special dinner for my awesome guy!!! (the boys too, of course!)

Happy Sunday!

Kim
