People run, bike and walk in our neighborhood but very few people in Topeka walk as a means of transportation.
People who work downtown walk a little more but the rest of the time it is rare to see anyone walking just to get someplace.
Wednesday morning I had to take Chris’ car to the Ford place for some work. I decided I would just walk home because it was a gorgeous morning.
After I dropped off the car the guys at the desk asked if I needed a ride. I told them I was just planning to walk home.
They didn’t know what to do. One of the guys gave me his card so that I could call if I got tired!!! What?! I’m a LONG distance runner!!!
It made me laugh! I told him that I regularly run ultras and hoped I could handle walking 5.5 miles. I’m not sure he knew what to think.
The best part is I have to take the car back today (Friday) for new tires and I’m planning to walk home again because it was such a nice walk!!!
Do you ever walk as a means of transportation?
I’ve always thought it would be nice to live someplace where everyone walked – maybe I will start doing it more often and see if it catches on here!!
Happy Friday!
Kim
When I was a kid, people used to walk around to go to their destination, but people nowadays are just going for a ride to get somewhere.

I want to add that walking makes us fitter. We should practice it as a mode of transportation if we aren’t going to far away places, It would not only save some money, but would make us healthier.
