I liked this move because I felt like it worked pretty much every muscle in my body!!!

Monday 8/18  44 stair push-up with a jump.

This move was fun – it got my heart rate up and because of the angle of the push-ups I was sore for a few days!!!

This was the starting day  of a long run streak:
10 miles in 79:41 + 1.5 miles easy.

Tuesday 8/19  44 stability ball single leg oblique punches with a dumbbell.

I did all 44 on one side and then switched sides for another set.

These were hard – the hardest part was keeping my balance – part of why the pictures are blurrier than normal!!!

And a shorter, faster run:
7 miles in 50:22  with an easy mile to finish.

Wednesday 8/20  44 plie squat jumps with a small band around my ankles and a lateral raise with dumbbells (5 pounds).

You can’t really tell that I jumped but I did!!!

Back to a double digit run at a slower pace:
10.5 miles in 86:50 + 0.7 miles

Thursday 8/21  44 triangle leg taps (this move is from Taylor @ Lifting Revolution – bodyweight workout for your lower body.

I counted a left & right tap as 1 rep.  By the end of all 44 my hip flexors were dying!!!

A long run at a quicker pace:
11 miles in 86:56 + 0.6 miles

Friday 8/22  44 butt kicks in plank (also from Taylor and the bodyweight workout for your lower body).

I sort of kicked to my opposite side.  And, when I went back to link to Taylor’s site I realized that I”m an idiot – she did them on her elbows – oh, well – a great move either way!!!

Another double digit run:
10 miles in 77:23  followed by 1.1 easy miles.

Saturday 8/23  44 squat pulses while standing on dumbbells.

(hard to take pictures of pulses without them being blurry!!)

Today I did a shorter run outside while Hunter had cross country practice – wish it would have been earlier since it was already close to 85 degrees!!!

4 easy miles and then 20+ minutes walking around waiting for Hunter and the other kids to get back to the school.

Overall it was a good week:
52.5 miles + 4.9 easy miles for a total of 57.4 miles.

I have a few more days of long runs planned and then I’m going to back off a bit.  (Can you tell I have a race coming up????)

Happy Saturday!!

Birthdays Then and Now

Do you think birthdays are better as an adult or when you were a child?

For me, I don’t have any birthdays  from when I was growing up that stand out as “the best birthday ever!!”

When I turned 40 Chris and the boys planned a big surprise party for me (the only surprise party I’ve ever had:) – it was such a fun time!!!

Well, Chris got a birthday card the other day that made me start thinking about the differences between birthdays then and now.  Mostly thought, I just want you to get to enjoy the fun of the card!

Remember birthdays when you were still a kid?
You’d shove like ten slices of Pizza into your mouth – Screen Shot 2014-08-21 at 9.26.33 PMFollow it up with soda pop and candy and tons of cake and ice cream-Screen Shot 2014-08-21 at 9.28.16 PMand spend the rest of the night bouncing off the walls in a sugar-induced frenzy!!!
Remember how much fun that was?

Well, that ship has sailed.  Now sit down before you fall down and have a happy birthday!!!Screen Shot 2014-08-21 at 9.30.38 PM

HaHa – this just made me laugh!!!  I think it might be implying that Chris is getting old!!!   😉

Happy Fun Friday!!

Proud to be…

The word proud can stand for so many things.

Growing up I remember learning the verse – Pride comes before a fall.  (I think it’s from Proverbs.)  Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 5.15.03 AMI always pictured it as a literal fall!!!!

But, there are other ways to be proud that I think are really great.Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 5.16.58 AM

Sometimes we have accomplishments that we truly should be proud of – nothing wrong with having pride in ourselves!!!  We work hard and deserve to celebrate our success whether it is from a race, something at work, something to do with our family or anything else that we have really put our heart into.

The other way that we express pride is in others.

Chris and I try to tell our boys often how proud we are of them because I think everyone needs to hear that they are making others proud!!!

Yesterday when Chris opened his birthday cards, I read what the boys wrote to him and it was so sweet.

Both boys thanked Chris for everything he does.  Hunter said – “I’m proud to be your son!”  He has heard us say how proud we are to be his parents and now that he is older, the feeling is mutual!!!

What is the thing you are most proud of?

Happy Wednesday!

Chris is 46!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Chris!!!!

my boys
my boys

I thought it would be fun to attempt to describe Chris –

C – caring, compassionate, charismatic

H – hilarious, hard-working, happy

R – reliable,  reasonable (good thing since I’m not always), romantic

I – intelligent, industrious, inspiring

S – super, sincere, special

There are many more things I could say about Chris but the main thing is I’m thankful everyday that I get to share life with this guy –

all dressed up

Happy #46, Chris – I will ad a couple extra reps in honor of your day!!!

Happy Tuesday!

Are You a Player?

So….are you a player?  I’m not talking about being a  player according to Urban Dictionary.

I’m talking about someone who plays along with the  MANY things that are constantly going around in the social media world.

A few years ago there was the “color” game.  Women would just randomly post….Screen Shot 2014-08-17 at 8.46.35 PM Screen Shot 2014-08-17 at 8.46.13 PM Screen Shot 2014-08-17 at 8.45.40 PM

The color was supposed to be bra color (or something) and it was all for breast cancer awareness.

I’ve seen games that involve an elaborate story and if you make the mistake of commenting then you have to post the same story on your site.

If you spent any time on FaceBook over the weekend you probably saw multiple videos of people dumping buckets of ice over their heads.

The idea behind the ice bucket challenge is awesome – it is to raise money and awareness for charity.  It actually started as far back as June 8.  In the past week, this has been changed to raising money for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Over the weekend, I saw lots of fun videos and even ended up being tagged.  Screen Shot 2014-08-17 at 8.58.52 PMBTW – when you get tagged you are supposed to complete the challenge in 24 hours or less.

Umm…..I think the cause is great and am happy to support it by making a donation but I did not dump ice water on my head.

I’m about as non-participatory as they come these days!!  That might make me totally –

Screen Shot 2014-08-17 at 9.03.29 PMbut I’m OK with it.

Do you take part in the MANY activities/causes that are always going around the FaceBook/social media world?

Happy Monday!!

Kim
