Trusting or Naive?

I used to be one of those people that just naturally thought everyone was inherently good.  For the most part, I still try to approach life with that kind of attitude but I’m also a lot more cautious than I used to be.

I had my identity stolen and it has been a complete PAIN trying to get everything straightened out.   The person who decided to be me has all of my information (social security #, phone numbers, address…..) but they changed my name just a bit to set up new accounts (using my info).

Last night I got a call on my cell phone from a number I didn’t recognize and the lady asked for Kimmely Turner (the person who wants to be me).  I asked her who she was calling for and it was a company that I’ve already filed a fraud report with.

I told her that she had the wrong name and that I had no idea why she would be calling that person.  She said that the name just hadn’t been changed on my account.  What account?!

Screen Shot 2014-04-15 at 9.36.22 PMI explained to her that I did not have an account with them – only some person pretending to be me had an account.  She said she knew that and she just needed to verify some information to finish my fraud account.  (Side note:  I sent in the paper work almost a month ago using my real name and when I called them 2 months+ ago I gave them my correct name!)

She wanted me to tell her my address (to confirm it, you know).

Screen Shot 2014-04-15 at 9.42.19 PMI refused and she told me I could call the customer service number on the back of my card.  I DON’T HAVE A CARD BECAUSE I DON’T HAVE AN ACCOUNT!!!

Anyway, I didn’t give her any information and I didn’t call any numbers last night.  I’m not sure that the fraud department is handling this very well and I have stopped being as trusting as I used to be.

I still try to give people the benefit of the doubt but when it is a “blind” call then I don’t want to be stupid or naive.

Do you tend to trust all people or are you a bit wary of people that you don’t really know?

Happy Wednesday!
