Lighten’ it Up

Today for my 43 I picked a move that would work multiple muscles – a squat with a side-bend while holding heavy dumbbells.  I used 25 pound DBs today.

After the 43 I ran again.  Today I just did 5 miles (30:44) and then 3.75 more at a much easier pace with a steep incline.  This was my 3rd time to run this week – most runs in a week in the past 3 months!!!

The boys are taking advantage of a nice November day and turning the outside of our house into this:

Over-the-Top Christmas Lights

Well, maybe not quite like that.  They are putting up the lights so that we are ready to turn them on next weekend!!!  Yeah!!!!

Have a super Saturday!!

GROSS (and ouch)!!

The 43 of the day was fun and fast-paced.  It was a jab-cross-knee-kick move.

For the demo (which I almost didn’t post because Hunter always tells me I look goofy when I punch) I alternated sides.  In real life…I did 43 with a left jab-right cross-right knee-left kick and then switched sides and did 43 more.  This really was a fun one!!!

I decided to push my luck and run again today.  Because of my hip, I have altered my running gait (bad, I know) to be able to run through the pain.  The awkward running has caused this lovely little thing:

Blister (and ugly callous)

(Chris is going to be totally grossed out that I put this picture in here!!!)

So, I ran 7 miles in 42:12 then did 3.5 more at a nicer pace with an incline.  I pretty much knew the blister was there after about 1/4 mile – nothing like running with a blister!

Gotta get busy today – store, cook, work the Book Fair at school….

Happy birthday today to my younger brother – Sam – 37 today!!!!

Runners Run

My 43 today involved this innocent looking band

Innocent – I think not!

I put it around my ankles

Ready to work

So far, no big deal.  Then…I laid on my right side and did 43 leg lifts.  The bands became a deadly weapon at this point!!!  I held each lift at the top for a few seconds and then only lowered my leg to the point just before the tension would be released.  My outer hip/thigh was dying!!!

Hold at the top!!!
Keep the tension!!

Of course, I had to switch to my left side and do a second 43 so that I could feel the pain equally!!

After  completing the torture 43, I decided to run.  I don’t see the doctor for almost 3 more weeks about my hip and that is too long to wait!  We all know – RUNNERS RUN!!!

I did 9 miles in 53:39 and then did another 2.3 at an easier pace with a steep incline.  Running makes me happy even when it hurts!

Tonight is hair night – WooHoo!!!

Happy Tuesday!

Keeping it Real

We had extra boys at our house last night!  😀 When I went downstairs to work-out this is what I saw:

Taken Over by the Boys!!

I decided to take my 43 to the treadmill.  I’m a little sore from yesterday’s M100 challenge so I thought I would just walk.  Then I decided that was too boring and plain so I made up a little arm work-out to go along with the walking.

I walked 43 minutes (3 miles) at a 5% incline.  I held 3 pound dumbbells and did the following series of exercises: (2 times during the 43 minutes)

  • overhead press x 43
  • alternate punches x 43 (86 total because right/left counted as one)
  • lateral raises x 43
  • bicep curls with my arms extended out to the sides x 43
  • hold arms extended straight out at sides 43 seconds
  • kick-backs x 43
  • zip-ups x 43
  • press backs x 43
  • hold arms extended straight overhead x 43
  • rows x 43

I made the little demo after I finished walking and then almost didn’t use it because I look like a total dork who maybe had too much birthday cake!!!  However, I said from the time I started this blog that it would always be real – therefore, the lovely video!!

I’m not gonna lie – it was harder than I thought to walk and do the exercises with weights.  It really got my heart-rate up which is always a bonus and I didn’t fall off of the treadmill – Score!!!

Have a super Sunday!! Cold and wet here today – I think I will shower, put on my sweats and chill with the family!

A Month of 43s!!

Today marks my first month of completing a 43 a day and blogging about it.  It has become something I really look forward to it.  I like the extra variety that it has brought to my work-outs.

For my 43 today I did a running step.  I used this step.

14″ double step (the Transfirmer)

The step is part of The Firm work-out equipment. It is called a Transfirmer.  The great thing about this step is that it is  2 steps in one – an 8″ step and a 6″ step.  I used both parts today for a total of 14″.  To do the 43:  start with right foot on the step and “run” with left (like a repeater – touching the ground each time) for a count of 5. Switch sides and repeat.  I did 43 on each leg by alternating legs.  Also, really pump your arms to get your heart rate up!

The rest of my work-out was on the treadmill.  I ran 7 miles in 43:32 then did 2.5 at an easier pace.  (I don’t know if I have ever said this but when I run on the treadmill I always set the incline to at least 1.5 because it is a little more like running on the road.)

I’m off to enjoy this gorgeous fall day!

I love fall!
