(No clue why my eyes are closed!!! And, my T-shirt is ginormous! Issues!!!) – You can see the different positions this way, though.
Of course, after I did 43 with my right leg, I had another set of 43 to do with my left leg. My legs were nice and shaky by the time I finished!!!
I pulled out another DVD that I haven’t used in awhile – BOSU Total Body Blast with Mindy Mylrea. This is a great total body workout (70 minutes). It has cardio through-out and lots of leg toning plus some core work at the end. Mindy is a bit of a goof but the time goes pretty quickly and most of the moves are easy to catch on to – lots of repetition!!
Today, I just feel the need for some laughs!!!
I’m pretty sure that Jordan and some of the other kids I tutor in Algebra think this next one!
This little thing about exercise made me smile!!
Q: What goes up and down but does not move?
A: Stairs
Q: If you were in a race and passed the person in 2nd place, what place would you be in?
A: 2nd place!
I hope y’all have a day full of smiles and laughter!!!
It is rare for me to be up before 7:00 on a Saturday (especially when I stayed up till midnight watching basketball) – however today is for a good cause – Hunter has a Cello Competition in Manhattan this morning so off we go!!! I wanted to get my workout done before we left because the rest of the day is going to be full!
For the 43 today I did a Plie Squat and lunge combo. Start with a plie squat:
Turn to right lunge:
Back to plie:
Left lunge:
Those 4 moves = 1 rep x 43. I stayed in a low squat/lunge the entire time so my quads were on fire by the time I finished all 43!! Thanks to Chris for posing for the pictures last night!!
I wanted to do a pretty quick workout so I did Les Mills Combat – Combat 45. It’s been a couple of weeks since I did some Combat and I always love it (even if it is at the butt crack of dawn!!).
Yesterday afternoon was beautiful!!! I went on a 2 mile walk with a neighbor and one of her dogs (a cute little Papillon who wasn’t really into walking and ended up being carried over half the way – silly girl!).
Then Chris and the boys and I played tennis for about an hour – always fun because Chris is the only true tennis player in the group the rest of us just run around a lot!!
Fun times for sure!! Hunter wore his new basketball shoes because he wants to break them in a little before he starts basketball camp on Monday night. Tennis – basketball – both involve a ball – who needs special shoes??
Since I was the one who stopped and took a few pictures, there are none of me (funny that happens on vacation a lot, too) – maybe we should work on that!! Nah!
Jordan and I decided to enjoy the weather and just walk home from the courts – another 2.5 mile walk around the lake!!!
I think my post title yesterday was pretty accurate – it was definitely a Fun Friday! We finished off the night with some Chinese food, rum drinks and the NCAA basketball tournament! Bummer that Kansas lost but I still have Duke winning the whole thing so I have a chance to win!!
Now – I’m off to listen to some awesome cello music!!
Today was day 193 out of 365 and the first time since I started this that a daily 43 almost didn’t happen. But – I’m stubborn determined to reach my goal so I pushed through!
For the 43 I used an 8 pound medicine ball and my double step.
I held the ball with both hands and stepped up with my right leg while lifting my left knee and twisting to the left. Of course, after doing 43 on the right side I had to switch sides and do a second set of 43.
I struggled to even figure out what to do today (which is rare for me!) and this was the best I could come up with.
The rest of my workout – a big fat zero!!!
Yesterday afternoon I got the worst headache (I have headaches lots of days but not like this) – I’m calling it a migraine because I had most all the symptoms of one. This morning it is a little better but still hanging on. After the trouble I had coming up with a 43 and then how tired I felt doing it I decided to take the day off.
I may not be a machine but I’m usually pretty tough – it always pisses me off when I can’t do what I really want to do!!
In fact one of my favorite sayings is
I say it to myself regularly!!! But today it’s just not gonna happen.
OK – onto the 43 – This was one of those that ended up being more challenging than I had thought it would be! I did a lunge with a twist while holding a medicine ball.
Start standing with ball at chest.
Step into lunge with right leg and push ball straight in front of you.
Twist to right while staying in lunge.
Return to front lunge, stand and bring ball back to chest for 1 rep. After doing 43 with my right leg, I still had another set of 43 with the left!!!
I think that the hardest part of this was keeping my arms up. I used an 8 pound medicine ball and it was hard to keep pushing my arms out and twisting!!
I decided to do a Les Mills Combat workout today – Combat 60 Ultimate Cardio Fighter! Always a good workout and a quick 60 minutes!!! I also did Turbo Fire – Abs 10 to get a little core work.
So, I’ve been doing some research into dehydrators. I’m trying to decide if it is something that I would use. I know that the boys would like things like dried mangos and other fruits. What I’m really wondering is if I could use dehydrated food to get rid of my chip addiction!!!
I love potato chips but I don’t love having a jiggle around my middle when I run!! Therefore, potato chips have to go!!! I need other (healthier) snack options! Any thoughts on dehydrators? Do you have one? (and do you use it if you do??)
Happy Thursday!!! (Yikes – spring break is flying by!!)
The 43 today worked my quads, butt and balance!!! I did a single leg squat with the opposite leg crossed over.
I held the squat for a 2-count then stood and repeated x 43. Of course, I had to get both legs.
Between the balance and the hold – this was a challenging 43!!
Since I’m not in the middle of any long-term programs right now (although Jordan told me this morning that I should do Insanity again – maybe in April) I have been trying to really mix it up with my workouts. Today I decided to go with a Jari Love DVD. I have quite a few of her workouts and I think they are all good! I especially love the ones that combine strength training with cardio intervals. Her weight training ones are good because they focus on really high reps (like 75-100 of some moves).
Today I did Jari Love Get Extremely Ripped 1000 Hardcore. (I think this was my first time doing this workout.) Talk about madness!!! You can break the program into 2 different 30-minute workouts, or do just the cardio or just the strength segments. I went with the whole thing – 75 minutes. Yikes!!! The strength training sections are all combo moves so my heart rate stayed up even during that part. (and lots of reps!) The cardio was definitely HIIT!! In all of her programs (the ones I’ve done anyway), Jari keeps the moves simple so you don’t have to worry about any fancy choreography – you can use a step or not. I used my 8″ one (the bottom part). Lots of jumping up and down from step to floor!!!
At one point, Hunter walked through the room and I could barely say – Good morning – sign of a great workout!!!!
Since yesterday was St. Patrick’s day (not that we are Irish), I thought it would be fun to do a themed meal. We had Irish Soda Bread (not my favorite at all!), green mac & cheese (thanks to a spinach sauce), cabbage and sausage (I loved the cabbage!!) and some really special green cookies!!
Sort-of fun to do meals with a theme! Hopefully these are good memories that my boys will keep forever!!!
College basketball is one of my favorite sports to watch!!! And, I love March Madness!!! Tonight, we will all 4 fill out our brackets so we are ready to go.This has been a fun family tradition since Jordan was in kindergarten (I think this is our 9th year!). We keep track of who wins the most in each round, the most overall and of course the Championship game!
Even though my team (Texas Longhorns) aren’t in the tournament this year, there are plenty of other Big 12 teams for me to root for (plus Duke!!).
Do you fill out a bracket? What team are you cheering on?
Happy Monday! It’s spring break for us!! (hopefully we get some nice spring weather and not the cold/snow that is predicted!)
