Bone Crunches

Last night I asked Jordan and Hunter if they had some ideas for today’s 43.  I gave them my camera and let them come up with some stuff (very creative stuff, at that!).  They even gave all of the exercises unique names!!!

So, the 43 for today is thanks to Hunter!  Bone crunches (I’m not completely sure where the name came from but I like it.)  You start like you are doing a basic crunch but at the top, snap your head to your knees (a little scary for those of us older much older than 11!). Then, lower down and come back up and do a right and left punch with a little twist to complete a rep.

It was a nice ab exercise and the 43 wasn’t too painful!!!

After the bone crunches, I did a short, quick run.  4 miles in 24:19 at 1.5 incline then a super easy cool-down mile.

Happy Monday!

T Stands for _________

I feel like I’m hosting Sesame Street or teaching preschool – The letter this week is T!!!

Actually the T represents Turner terrific terrified torture –  my 43 today!!! I worked my shoulders by making a T.  I held dumbbells (8 pounds for the demo but only 5 pounds for the actual 43) and raised my arms to shoulder height in front of me then slowly moved them to the sides and lowered them.  Then I raised my arms out to the sides, slowly moved them to the front and lowered them – see what I mean – TORTURE!!!

It was a hard 43!!!  I think I’ve mentioned before -my shoulders are my weakest muscle group!!  Hunter was very encouraging – he kept saying “Good job” “5 more” “almost done” – very helpful sweet!!! I’m happy with my decision to just use 5 pounds – when I watched the demo I noticed that I sort-of swung the weights up with the 8 pounds – not cool!!!

After I finished the torturous Ts, I ran:  9 miles in 57:29 at 1.5 incline + 1 mile super easy to cool down

Last night we finally were able to decorate our final tree – the big one in our living room.  It is our Santa tree and we always decorate it as a family.  Yesterday afternoon I laid all of the ornaments on the dining room table:

Santa Ornaments (233)

Hard to see all of them but I counted as I took them out of the boxes – 233!!!  Every year we had a few – usually from places we visit or when I find a super cool one!  All of them have some form of Santa except 1 which is just Mrs. Claus in a sleigh and no 2 are alike!

Fun to spend a little extra time all together last night!!!

How many Turner boys does it take…?

The final product:

Santa Tree

See – T for tree!!!

Now I gotta get busy on the school newsletter – you know I always wait until the last possible day!!

Happy Wednesday!

  • Do you have a weak body part that feels like torture to every single time you work it?
  • Do you have themed trees/rooms for Christmas?

Funny Stuff

Usually I do the pictures or video before I do my 43 – wanna be fresh, you know!!!  Today, however, that didn’t work-out.  I took Jordan to school but Hunter is still home.  I figured he would still do my video – I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for him to get up. I did my 43 and waited some more. Finally at 9:00 I went down and woke him checked on him – what do you know, he woke up!!!  I’m sure I was a bit much for him first thing but isn’t that what moms are for?!

So the 43 was a press to a fly – basic stuff. I used 15 pound dumbbells for the 43.  Lay on your back, knees bent.  Press dumbbells straight over chest, turn wrists slightly at top and slowly lower arms out to side without letting elbows touch floor.  Brings hands back together still extended above chest and lower back to chest.  Repeat.  (Just watch the video!!!).

So, after Hunter happily made the video for me, I could get on with my work-out.

It was another treadmill kind-of day.   6 miles in 35:43 with 1.5 incline  then 3.25 easier with  max incline.

Yesterday Chris and I watched part of Christmas with the Cranks.  My favorite part:

(I don’t know what’s up with the foreign sub-titles but the scene makes me laugh every time!!!)

We also watched Grown-Ups. Somehow, Chris had never seen it before.  It totally cracked us up (not hard to do)!

So last night, we were doing the normal night-time rituals:  boys brushing teeth before we give them hugs, me laying out my work-out stuff and Chris setting his coffee maker.  However, I think being off for 4 days might have thrown him off a little – instead of setting the timer for 5:15am, he just hit start.  Ummm….why do you need coffee tonight?!  Oops – I’m pretty sure that it was funnier for me than him.

Hopefully Hunter will be able to go back to school in another day or so – still has a nasty cough if he moves around much at all.

Happy Monday!!!

Wine Much???

For the 43 today I decided to tackle a move that is my nemesis – the tricep push-up!!!  This move has always been hard for me and no matter how many dips, kick-backs, over-head tricep extensions….I do, it never gets easier.  Today was no different – I did the first 6 on my toes and the rest (37) on my knees.  Even on my knees, it was a struggle to reach 43.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQSAoFp2Sj8′]

Jordan actually did his age (14) on his toes – show off!!!

The past couple of days every time I have gone downstairs this is what I have seen:

Still sick

Hunter has not been out of his chair (except to go to bed) in 3 days now. Poor boy!!!

Show Off!!!

Jordan jumps up when he hears me on the stairs and starts doing push-ups.  The boys know that I like them to get some activity and not just play electronics all the time so this is Jordan’s way of doing it.  I asked him if he always did push-ups that way – yes, he does.  He had no idea that those are much harder than regular push-ups!!!

Because I may or may not have consumed 2 whole bottles of wine yesterday – over the course of 9 hours (cooking, eating, clean-up, and chilling), I decided that I really needed to push myself today.  Best way to do that – running!!!

I did a pyramid today:  Started at 8:00 min/mile and every 3 minutes increased the speed until I got to 5:00min/mile.  Ran 6min at that pace and then started decreasing the speed every 3 minutes until I was back to 8:00min/mile.  The decrease was nice!!!

Total:  10 miles in 61:00 at 1.5 incline.  Then I did another 2.5 to cool down!

Black Friday Shopping??  If I do any shopping today it will be online!!!

Happy Fun Friday!!!

NO!!!! Not the Flu!

Trying to be super productive today and still take care of Hunter!  Got the grocery store out of the way early and it wasn’t crowded at all!!! (I was shocked and happy!)

The 43 of the day was a crunch with feet stacked (heel-to-toe) – this one helps get into the lower abs, too!!!

Working Hard!

I did 43 with my right foot on top and then another 43 with my left foot on top.

and relax

After the crunches, I did a quick 4 miles (24:19) + 1 easy mile to complete my work-out.  Gotta keep moving for sure!

I’m super glad that we decided not to travel anywhere for Thanksgiving.  I’m afraid that Hunter might have the flu.   Poor boy – nasty cough, stuffy nose, headache and fever, not hungry…..Hopefully we can keep the germs contained just to him and not share!!!

Poor Boy!!!

Have a great Wednesday!  Stay well!!!

Kim
