After the 43 I ran again. Today I just did 5 miles (30:44) and then 3.75 more at a much easier pace with a steep incline. This was my 3rd time to run this week – most runs in a week in the past 3 months!!!
The boys are taking advantage of a nice November day and turning the outside of our house into this:
Over-the-Top Christmas Lights
Well, maybe not quite like that. They are putting up the lights so that we are ready to turn them on next weekend!!! Yeah!!!!
The 43 today was a hip lift while on a stability ball with a body bar over my hips – confused? It was a simple but effective move. I started with my hips relaxed like this:
Lower (1 second)
You can sort-of see the body bar (about 5-8 pounds). Then, I lifted my hips and held for 5 seconds each rep until I reached the magic 43.
Up & Hold
The movement if small but by holding at the top and only lowering for about a second, I totally felt it in my butt and quads!!!
Today I also did some Turbo Fire (one of my favorites!!!) – Fire 55EZ (don’t let the EZ fool you – this is solid cardio with 2 minutes of HIIT thrown in!). I love any work-out with Chalean!
So, you might know/remember that the other day (Saturday) I did 5 x M100 because Hunter didn’t think I could. Well, pretty much any time someone doubts my fitness capability I have to prove them wrong, duh!! I succeeded and both Hunter and my brother Sam, who was also sure I couldn’t do it, were impressed. Well, Monday night I woke up in the night with a major pain in my shoulder, upper back and into my chest. I spent 2 days in pain and after the 3rd night of almost no sleep I went to the DR yesterday. She checked me out and said – severe muscle strain. Then she asked if I had done anything to cause it. I told her that Monday’s work-out wouldn’t have hurt my shoulders. She said no it probably happened over the week-end like maybe Saturday. OH…….
I tried to explain about M100s and burpees and mountain climbers and proving to your 11-year-old that you still totally rock…..She looked at me and said – I don’t think you should do that again. Fine – I won’t (until Hunter challenges me to do 10 of them!!!!).
Anyway, she prescribed a muscle relaxer which helped a great deal last night and today I punched out a lot of the soreness with my work-out so I’m ready – bring on the next challenge!!!
Gotta go get fitted for my Hair Net!!! I’m serving the Thanksgiving lunch at Hunter’s school today!
Today I decided I needed to take a day off. I still wanted to get in a 43 so I figured some crunches would be good but still allow me to rest my body.
I did frog crunches – like this:
Frog crunchHold at top
It was a nice, easy 43.
It is always hard for me to take days completely off – I like to work-out! However, I think sometimes my body says – NO MORE!! Today is one of those days so I’m going to actually listen this time!
For the demo (which I almost didn’t post because Hunter always tells me I look goofy when I punch) I alternated sides. In real life…I did 43 with a left jab-right cross-right knee-left kick and then switched sides and did 43 more. This really was a fun one!!!
I decided to push my luck and run again today. Because of my hip, I have altered my running gait (bad, I know) to be able to run through the pain. The awkward running has caused this lovely little thing:
Blister (and ugly callous)
(Chris is going to be totally grossed out that I put this picture in here!!!)
So, I ran 7 miles in 42:12 then did 3.5 more at a nicer pace with an incline. I pretty much knew the blister was there after about 1/4 mile – nothing like running with a blister!
Gotta get busy today – store, cook, work the Book Fair at school….
Happy birthday today to my younger brother – Sam – 37 today!!!!
So far, no big deal. Then…I laid on my right side and did 43 leg lifts. The bands became a deadly weapon at this point!!! I held each lift at the top for a few seconds and then only lowered my leg to the point just before the tension would be released. My outer hip/thigh was dying!!!
Hold at the top!!!Keep the tension!!
Of course, I had to switch to my left side and do a second 43 so that I could feel the pain equally!!
After completing the torture43, I decided to run. I don’t see the doctor for almost 3 more weeks about my hip and that is too long to wait! We all know – RUNNERS RUN!!!
I did 9 miles in 53:39 and then did another 2.3 at an easier pace with a steep incline. Running makes me happy even when it hurts!
