Black Cats, Ladders, Mirrors…

Lately I have been breaking things – glass things!!

Last week I was helping Jordan get some stuff out of his room that he doesn’t want anymore and I had his old Lava lamp –

Screen Shot 2014-06-26 at 9.22.00 PMI was trying to put it in the ever-growing garage sale pile.  What I didn’t know is that the glass part isn’t really attached to the base.  Umm….it was a huge slimy mess with glass mixed in!!!

Yesterday morning I was helping some friends who are moving into a new house this weekend.  They are trying to get everything but the furniture and heavy boxes done before Saturday (we will help them load the U-Haul Saturday).  This morning we did all the kitchen stuff.

Instead of wrapping everything, we just filled laundry baskets and plastic bins – drove them to the new house – unpacked and went back for more.

Nothing broke in transit but I was loading a cabinet with drinking glasses, water bottles and coffee mugs.

I was adjusting one of the shelves with the little metal brackets – Screen Shot 2014-06-26 at 9.28.49 PM

I already had some glasses on the bottom of the cabinet – the shelf I was moving sort of slipped and crushed 2 stacked juice glasses.  Pretty much this is what happened – Screen Shot 2014-06-26 at 9.31.12 PM

Then the  worst break happened last night at a wedding change-over.  Jordan, Chris and I were flipping the set-up from ceremony seating to reception set-up.  Everything was going great and we would have been done in less than 15 minutes until several of the guests decided they could “help” us.

Well, when 10 people are going in and out of a small space working around decorations and stuff, bad things happen.

A tall glass vase – Screen Shot 2014-06-26 at 9.40.39 PMhad a square mirror on it with a tall metal “thing” on that and then a lit candle.

Rolling out the final table (I was doing it for Jordan),  the leg popped out and hit the structure and the entire thing toppled in slow motion!  Glass and candle wax went everywhere – not cool!!!

So, on the way home Jordan asked me if I had seen any black cats lately or walked under an ladders.  Screen Shot 2014-06-26 at 9.43.31 PM

The answer is – NO!!!  I don’t know what is up with me and glass products lately but I seem to have issues!

I guess I should be happy the mirror didn’t break in the candle/vase decoration!!!

Are you superstitious?
Do you ever feel super klutzy or like a total butter fingers?

Happy Friday!!

The Blogger Behind the Blog

I thought it would be fun to share some random facts that you probably didn’t even know you wanted to know!!!

1.  How long does it take you to get ready for the day?
I can take a shower, do my hair & make-up, get dressed and be ready to go in under 30 minutes!!  And, the thing that takes the longest is always my shower – I love long hot showers!!

2.  Do you have any collections?
I collect cookbooks!!!

4.  Can you play any musical instruments?
Sadly, NO!!!  I took piano lessons for about 3 years when I was 6-8 and I played the clarinet in 5th grade.  I also can’t carry a tune but that doesn’t stop me from belting out songs when I’m working (cleaning/ironing at venue) and sometimes when I’m running.

5.  Do you have friends that you have known since elementary school?  Jr. High? High School?
The farthest I go back is 9th grade which was actually Jr. High at the time.  We moved a lot growing up!!  I am FB friends with a few people that I knew in 2nd-4th grade but I haven’t seen them in years!!!

6.  If you had to pick your last meal, what would you choose?
I would probably go to Esparzas (our favorite Mexican food place in Grapevine, TX) and have an order of Queso Flameado – basically a lot of cheese with a bit of chicken and veggies – good stuff!!!  Plus a couple Margaritas which is why we loved Esparzas!!!

YUM!!

8.  Are you “missing” any body parts?
I had my gall bladder removed in 2003 but I still have all the rest of my parts!!!

9.  How many times have you moved?
21 times!!!!  Yikes – I don’t think I’ve ever counted all of my moves before!!!  I’m currently on my record in one place – it will be 10 years the first week of August!!!

10.  Are you type A?
100% YES!!!  My husband might even say I’m A+!!!

Pick any question (or all) and tell me your answer!

Happy Wednesday!!

What Right Does Anyone Have to Judge Us?

How many times have you felt like you are being judged by others?

Screen Shot 2014-06-22 at 8.50.45 PM

I know that I have felt judged and been judged way more times than I like.  Because of how horrible it always makes me feel, I try really hard to not pass those feelings on to others.

Screen Shot 2014-06-22 at 8.49.30 PM

These feelings started way back in my teen years and spilled over from there.  I know that from the time I was about 17 through the present my mom has not approved of many of my decisions.  The sad thing is they aren’t “bad” decisions – just not what she would choose.

Screen Shot 2014-06-22 at 8.48.30 PM

Now, I’m at a point in my life where it doesn’t bother me as much to not please everyone.  I know that people are always going to disapprove and make assumptions without knowing all of the facts.

Screen Shot 2014-06-22 at 8.46.55 PMI try very hard to make sure that my boys don’t feel judged by me.  Even though we might not agree about everything, they are entitled to make their own decisions and I want to respect them and support the choices they make.

Have you ever felt judged by someone who should be supporting you?

Happy Monday!!

Focus on the Core (6/15-6/21)

This week I decided to make the daily 44 all about core work!!!  I try to do some core work every week but this week I hit it even harder.

Sunday 6/15  44 oblique crunches with a leg lift.

start
start
left leg up and twist
left leg up and twist
right side twist
right side twist

I liked this move!!!  I counted a left-right as 1 rep so it turned into a total of 88 crunches!!

Monday 6/16  44 alternating leg kicks while in a V-sit position.

hold abs and kick right leg
hold abs and kick right leg
kick left leg
kick left leg

This move required a lot of balance which is even more of a core bonus!!  (I counted a right-left kick as 1 rep)

Still trying to lift weights consistently so it was Chalean Extreme Burn Circuit 3 (lots of shoulder work).

I also got in a nice hard run!!!
9 miles in 57:49 (6:26 pace) followed by 1.75 easy miles.  I haven’t been running hard much lately but I still try to occasionally push my pace just to make sure I still can.

Tuesday 6/17  44 plank hold with a double knee tap.

I must be holding my breath in the bottom picture because my face is really red – oops!!!

I decided to follow Monday’s hard run with an easier run.
10 miles in 80:07 + 1 super easy mile.

Wednesday 6/18  44 “rope climbs” with legs extended.

reach right

reach left
reach left

This was a great move for keeping constant tension on the abs!

Lifting day – Chalean Extreme Burn Circuit 1 (last time through this circuit – next week I will start the Push Circuit!!).

I wanted a little more after lifting so I did The Firm – Skills, Drills & Thrills.  This is a nice workout with a mix of cardio and toning using the wobble disc –

great tool to challenge balance

Thursday 6/19  44 plank with elbows on the wobble disc – step out with right leg, back in then pull the right knee in – repeat on left side for 1 rep.

plank

right leg step out
right leg step out
pull right knee in
pull right knee in
step left leg out
step left leg out
left knee in

I should have timed how long I had to hold plank while doing this – oh, well!!

And, I’m still trying to bump my running miles up so it was another day of running.
13 miles in 1:42.13 + 1.4 easier miles.

Friday 6/20  44 knee crunches while holding boat pose on wobble disc.

ready

Can you tell how hard it was to balance?  My arms were flailing the entire time just trying to keep me from falling over!!!

The only workout for the day was Chalean Extreme – Burn Circuit 2 (all about biceps and triceps) – I can finally do all of the tricep push-ups on my toes!!!

I knew that I had a long day of cleaning, moving furniture and ironing ahead (8 hours is what it ended up taking) so I didn’t do any cardio after the lifting!!!  That ended up being a good choice!!!

Saturday 6/21 – 44 grab & crunch with medicine ball!!  This was a fun new move.  Start by laying on your back with your knees at 90 and a medicine ball (I used an 8 pound ball) resting on your legs –

start
start

Crunch up and grab the medicine ball –

crunch & grab
crunch & grab

Take the ball with you and extend arms over head –

arms over head w/ball
arms over head w/ball

Crunch up and place ball back on legs to complete 1 rep –

crunch & replace ball
crunch & replace ball

Not only did this work my abs/core – I felt this in my hip flexors a lot!!!!

I had planned to run again but woke up with a stabbing pain in my eye (gotta  love sinuses!!!) so I decided to skip the run for now.

I just realized that my total mileage for the year (hard and easy miles) is just over 900.  That is more than I had for all of 2013 – maybe learning to run easier is paying off!!!

Happy Saturday!

Scaling Back

Summer is my all-time favorite time of year!!!  In my perfect world it would be  full of family, sun and fun!

However, this summer is a little different because Screen Shot 2014-06-19 at 9.11.55 PMwe bought a business and there is always a list of stuff that needs to be done.

I’ve been feeling stressed because we have a few weeks (next week is one of them) that have back-to back-to back events and so I will have some early (earlier than normal!!) mornings to clean, set-up, wash table cloths and iron them……to get it ready for the next event.

The other stress is the fact that I feel like I need to work harder at promoting our business.

What I really want to do is hang out with these 2 goofy boys –

Jordan & Hunter

Spend time in the sun –

my favorite
my happy place

And, at some point we need to enjoy time on the boat!!

on the Pontoon!
on the Pontoon!

So, I told Chris that I’m going to continue to take calls on the business and do showings but I’m going to put all promotion efforts on the back burner until the boys go back to school.

And, I’ve been scaling down on time spent on the computer.  My BlogLovin’ feed is out of control and there are times that it takes me a couple days to respond to comments here.  I’m trying to be OK with that but it is a struggle.

So, I’m going to take some advice from Carla and “do what I can when I can.”

Do you feel like the summer is busier or more relaxing in your world?

Happy Friday!!

Kim
