Scared, Nervous, Excited, Scared

Today’s 44 was a Pilates based move – the single leg stretch.  Just because the name of it has the word stretch, don’t think it wasn’t a challenge!!!

right leg

A right leg up and left leg up counted as 1 rep.  I tried to keep my toes pointed and my legs straight.  Keeping the bottom leg off the ground the entire time and my head and shoulders up made this a great core workout!!!

Screen shot 2013-10-10 at 9.20.51 PMThis week I’ve been slightly completely obsessing about my race this weekend.  Not gonna lie – I’m ready for it to be Monday and the race behind me (is that bad?)!!!

The emotions that I’ve felt this week have ranged from excitement to complete fear of failure!!!

I think that the things I’m the most scared about are

Screen shot 2013-10-10 at 9.25.31 PMDon’t get me wrong – I love a good rain storm but I do NOT want to run in rain all night long.  I think it is supposed to be a little on the cool side which I can handle as long as I’m not wet!  Remember – I’m a treadmill runner most of the time!!!

My other biggest fear is my stomach!  Running makes my stomach hurt a lot these days!!! Hopefully it won’t be a huge issue!

I would have liked to rest my legs a little more this week – I’m not sure that being on them from 6 am till 4 pm a couple of days (boot camp, cleaning, set-up, ironing…..) was the best plan but it’s what it is these days!!!

Screen shot 2013-10-10 at 9.35.28 PMI do have a couple of goals – I have thought all week about whether or not to share them and I might as well – I’m pretty much an open book!!!

1.  Finish!!!
2.  Be the first female.
3.  Break 10 hours.

#1 is my main goal but I figure I might as well go big with my other goals!!!

I’m already planning to utilize a run/walk plan during the race – and, for the record, Jordan told me the other day –

“It doesn’t count if you don’t run it all!!!”

Nice!!!  Then Chris said he could probably complete 50 miles, too  (on foot?!).

Today I’m going to try and make sure that I have everything I need and hopefully get a good night’s sleep before my all-nighter (way to old to lose a night of sleep!!!).

Happy Friday!!!

Jack of Everything…Master of Nothing

Today’s 44 was HARD!!!  Thanks to Nellie (Brooklyn Active Mama) I did a move that is one of my least favorite because I’ve never truly mastered it – Triceps Push-ups!  I don’t know why I’ve always struggled so much with this move but I have and do!!!

So, I only did about half of my 44 on my toes – the rest were on my knees.

I also taught Garage Boot Camp – one of my last workoust for a few days!!!  (Don’t panic!!!  I will still be doing my daily 44s!!!)  Today we did Band Bootcamp.

FYI – the following is meant to be a humorous approach it is not a self put-down in any way – just the thoughts rushing through my head!!!

I’m pretty sure that many of y’all can totally relate to this feeling!  I feel like I just flit from 1 thing to another and  even though I do lots of things I don’t think I’m doing anything super well!!!

Here are some of the main categories of things I attempt:

Runner/Athlete – I think the fact that this happens first thing every day helps. I get up early for the sole purpose of doing my workout so I know that it will always happen.

Screen shot 2013-10-09 at 8.36.06 PMBoot Camp Instructor – I feel like this summer I did a much better job here.  This fall I’m only doing class 2x a week and I don’t always feel like I do a great job.  I have a new workout typed up but I haven’t done a trial run so I don’t feel ready to teach it.  Glad I did so many new workouts during the summer.

Screen shot 2013-10-09 at 8.38.21 PM

Math Tutor – Adequate as long as it is in the morning which, ummm, most kids are in school then so not really a great plan.  By evening I’m spent (and like to have a glass of wine!).

Blogging – Well, I do it every day – does that count for anything?!

Friend – Epic fail here!!!  I have done a poor job being a true friend lately!!!  Need to make more effort to do some get-togethers!!!

Cook –   I love to cook.  BUT – I have to do a better job planning stuff out on the weekends.  This week, I’ve done pretty good – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday – 3 days, 3 meals, 3 new recipes!!!! But that isn’t the norm!

PTO Co-President (at the middle school) – What on earth was I thinking agreeing to this?!  I have done an abysmal job so far – gotta step up this one!!!

Clean – House – NOPE!!!!  (been awhile)  Business – YES (1-2x per week)

Business Chores –
Clean – yes (see above) – prior to every event – got this down to a science!!!
Iron   – UGH!!!  Yes, 3 hours worth for every single event!!!
     Network – NO – when?!
Accounting – Not so great – gotta get caught up!!!
Yard work – Pulled weeds once!!  But, remember the new tenant wants to do this!!!
Furniture moving/set-up – YEP – all the time!!!  Chairs are great for bicep curls!!!
     Showings/Follow-up – Showings on demand.  Follow-up – What?!
Landlord –  Well, I rented out one apartment and some how offended one of our other tenants because I made her pay the rent for the 2nd month in a row – nice!!!

Screen shot 2013-10-09 at 8.33.27 PM

Mom  – OY – epic fail here!!!
Remember a few weeks ago when I forgot to pick Hunter up after school?
Last night, Jordan had a big Band Festival at the local college.  Ummm…I did not go.  I could/should have but our band was going to play for about 15 minutes out of the 3+ hour festival.  I figure there will be pictures (and maybe even videos) on Screen shot 2013-10-09 at 8.34.28 PMsoon compliments of the parents who went and supported the kids!!!

Wife – I think that I saw Chris for a few minutes last night.  We have plans for a “date day” Friday (after I workout, blog, tutor….) – sadly, most of the day will be geared toward gathering everything I need for the weekend.

Ummm….I am a bit Type A and I think that I have a few perfectionism tendencies – maybe I need to relax and “go with the flow” a little more!!!

How do you complete the phrase?   Jack of _____________, Master of ______________.

Happy Thursday!!!  I’m off to work on my cleaning (venue), furniture moving and ironing skills!!!

A Man/Boy in Uniform

Today I worked my entire body with the 44.  I did a squat with a torso twist using a 10 pound dumbbell.

I did 44 with a left twist and then I did another set of 44 twisting to the right.

Between lifting my arms overhead after each twist and the squats themselves – this move was a challenge!!!

This year is the first year for the Air Force Junior ROTC program at our high school.

Jordan decided to be in the program which, of course, makes us happy!!!  Today was the first day that they have worn their uniforms.

Hard for me to think of Jordan as a man and not my little boy.  Yes, he is taller than Chris!!!  He will be 15 in a month – YIKES!!!

Thankfully, he still has plenty of boy left in him!!!

Umm…this is semi-normal!!!

Some days it seems like my boys are growing up way to fast and then other days it seems just about perfect and they remind me that they are still boys!!!

I’m just here to enjoy the ride with them!!!

Desperately Seeking Advice

Today for my 44 I did a single arm lateral raise with a leg lift while on a stability ball.  (It’s not as complicated as it sounds!!)

After I finished 44 I had to switch arms and legs and repeat.

Garage boot camp started off chilly but we warmed up quickly with our Turbo workout!!!

Screen shot 2013-10-07 at 8.35.34 PMSo, nothing like waiting until the last minute to realize that I need some advice!!!

Screen shot 2013-10-07 at 8.43.51 PMI don’t have a clue about how to approach the race that I’m doing this weekend.  I know when packet pick-up and the race briefing are and that it starts at 6:00 pm Saturday night.

Drop bags – Screen shot 2013-10-07 at 8.49.18 PM

Not a clue what the point of these is and since you can’t pick them back up till after 10:00 am on Sunday  (16 hours after the start) and I’m hoping to be home in bed by then, I think I will just skip this step.

Fueling – Screen shot 2013-10-07 at 8.50.08 PM

Still not a clue about what is going to work here!!!  I’m just going back to my high school track days!!! Screen shot 2013-10-07 at 8.57.51 PMScreen shot 2013-10-07 at 8.58.37 PM

I prefer to run in the morning and I never eat before or during my runs so I sort of hate changing it up a lot.

Pacing –  After a lot of trial and error with my training, I think I’m going to go with a 4:1 run/walk effort.  As much as I would like to run the entire distance, I’m afraid if I don’t start off smart then I will have a repeat of my 44 miles!!!

My main plan is to just show up and run until I’m done – 50 miles!!!

Not sure how great my plan is so please share any tips, advice, hints, words of wisdom, experience or jokes that you have – all will be much appreciated!!!

Happy Tuesday!!

Texas Fun

Today I did 44 alternate leg extensions while in a V-sit.  (Actually it was 88 because I counted a right extension and a left extension as 1 rep.)

By the time I finished these, my abs were burning and I got a pretty good workout for my hip flexors!!!

And I did my final run  before Saturday night!!!

After the overly personal post from yesterday (thanks for all of your incredibly kind words!!!), I thought today it would be nice just to have a fun post about my favorite state!!!

Screen shot 2013-10-05 at 2.19.04 PM

I’m pretty sure I’ve made no secret of the fact that even though we live in Kansas, I’m from TEXAS!!!

Here are some Texas facts that you may or may not have heard before:

1.  Texas is home to 3 of the 10 largest cities in the United States.  (6 of the top 20)

    16  Ft. Worth
   19   El Paso

11.  The King Ranch in Texas is bigger than the state of Rhode Island.

12.  The armadillo is the official state mammal.

What’s a fun fact about your state?

Happy Monday!!!
