Last Day in Paradise

Today I used my band again for my 43.  I did a bicep curl while in a V-sit position.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3KdK7gLSFM’]

I love moves like this because not only am I working my biceps but also my entire core so it is a double bonus!!

And since this is our last day here in Florida, I took advantage of the beach for another hot, steamy run!!  4 miles – 32:33 + 0.5 miles cool down  – I actually ran the last 2 miles much faster than the first 2 but I was really having to work hard – the humidity just sucks the energy out of me!!!

Screen shot 2013-07-29 at 8.27.03 AMToday is our last day before we start the LONG drive home and I plan to enjoy every second of it!!!  For me that means plenty of time on the beach doing my favorite thing:Beach

For the boys, it probably means more time hanging out with their buddies (the Page boys) playing games on their phones/iPads:

Notice how Chris is right there in the mix with them?!  The other day I walked in from the beach and the little video below is what I saw!  Crazy!!

Last night we got some great sunset pictures on the beach.

I love all the variety in the colors.  All of those pictures were taken in a 20-30 minute window but they are all so different!

So, I’m off to enjoy my version of paradise!

Sleep: It’s Optional

Today’s 43 was an angle lunge.  That is exactly what it sounds like – a lunge at an  angle.

Start with feet together –

start
start

Lunge right leg to the right front angle –

right lunge
right lunge – don’t forget to close your eyes

Quickly step right foot back and then lunge left leg to the left front angle –

left lunge
left lunge

I counted a right and left lunge as 1 rep so it was 43 lunges per leg.  By moving quickly back and forth, I also got my heart rate up while doing these!

I thought about running but with the sand workouts lately, my Achilles is really sore so I will wait on that.  Instead I did Les Mills Combat – Combat 45 – one of my all time favorite workouts!!!

So, I had already decided before we came on vacation that I was going to give myself permission to sleep in while we were here.  At home I’m always up at the butt crack of dawn by 5:15 (often earlier) so I came here planning to really make up for lost sleep.

Screen shot 2013-07-25 at 7.42.04 PM

However, since we have been in Florida I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten even less sleep than I do at home!!

At home I have

However, since we’ve been here that has gone out the window (literally since we are outside all the time!)!!Screen shot 2013-07-25 at 7.55.19 PM

It has been fun to be up past 10 pm (yep we are old and  in bed by 10 almost every night!)!!  We have set out on the deck and listened to the waves while catching up with friends – it has been awesome!!

Screen shot 2013-07-25 at 7.55.02 PMThe only problem is that I haven’t really been able to sleep in that much – by 7 we are usually up and going!  Add that to the fact that I spend several hours in the middle of the night awake –

Screen shot 2013-07-25 at 8.00.20 PMSo, I have just decided that sleep is completely optional!!!

But who needs sleep when I can see this?

Even without much sleep being at the beach is very relaxing!  My true happy place!!

Packed Sand or Loose Sand for Working Out?

Today I did my 43 on the beach!  It was hard!!  I did a burpee with a tuck jump (although my tucks are not very high!).

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCSfRRoiuA4′]

It is HARD to jump up high in the sand!!  This was a 43 that pretty much worked my entire body.

I also did my 2nd round of this week’s workout with Taylor’s challenge.  I’m pretty sure that I’m doing the wrong workout this week but I decided to just stick with it because it is perfect for vacation – the one part that requires weights I can use my bands.  This is the workout that has 1000 total reps (700 are mountain climbers!).  Tuesday it took 14:13 and today I crushed my time – 12:23!!

And, because we are on vacation and I’m trying to maximize time, that was the extent of my work out!!  Not gonna lie – working out for less than 30 minutes is not my normal and I’m trying really hard to be OK with the fact that if I go all-out for a short amount of time (HIIT) then I don’t need to work out for hours.  Still working on the whole guilt thing!!

Burning Question:

In my 43 video today, you can see that I worked out in the loose heavy sand.  I think it’s much more difficult to perform moves that require any jumping in the loose sand.  However, when I was doing the burpees this morning, I had someone tell me that I should do them on the packed sand to really get the full benefit.

So – what do you think?  More benefits from trudging through the loose sand or the packed sand?

And – you know I have to post some more beach pictures!!

Chris and the boys playing in the water – Chris and Hunter said the waves were big enough that it was a workout.  Jordan said it wasn’t even close to a workout – maybe because he has been doing boot camp with me all summer!!!

Happy Thursday!!

Pictures are Better than Words

Today for my 43 I did a move that I just tried for the first time yesterday (thanks, Taylor!!).  The move is a plank with alternate thigh taps.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGOTXHt7u1E’]

I counted a right tap and a left tap as 1 rep.  This was another one of those fun ways to spice up a plank!!

I also went for another humid Florida run.  I only ran 3 miles (24:54) and then walked 0.5 miles.  Today’s route was nice because I had water views almost the entire way!!

The condo that we are renting has some really neat beach themed pictures hanging around.Screen shot 2013-07-24 at 8.27.20 AM

The boys enjoy the time in the water, time hanging out with our friends here, and the whole relaxing feeling of vacation!!!

Matt and Chris

Matt (on the left) and Chris have been friends since they were young (like junior high)!!  Matt & his family live in Texas but they flew out for a few days while we were here – so much fun to catch up with them again!!!  Watching Chris and Matt play in the water yesterday reminds me that we are all kids at heart – they road waves for an hour and had a great time!!!  (the boys were all at the pool!!).

Vacation is the perfect time to relax, recharge and reconnect with friends!!!

Happy Wednesday!!!

GUILT

For my 43 today, I pulled out my bands (the perfect travel equipment!) –

Turbo Fire Band
Turbo Fire Band

I decided to do a combo move with them to work my shoulders and upper back.  I stood on the band and did a right arm shoulder press and a left arm row.

start
start
press up and row
press up and row

I’m not gonna lie – this move ended up being hard – and the surprising part was that the row was harder than the press!!

And, of course, another set of 43 with my arms switched.

ready?
ready?
go
go

By the end of the two 43 sets my arms were shaking!!!

My workout today was actually really short (just under 15 minutes) but intense!!  I’m still participating in Taylor’s 6 week challenge and the workout this week is 1000 reps (700 of which are mountain climbers!!) for time.  This is a perfect workout for this week – next time I think I will do it on the beach!!!

Guilt – so many emotions all wrapped up in one word.  I think that some of us (like me) have a really hard time letting go of guilt.  For as long as I can remember I have lived with guilt.  Growing up (especially when I was in high school) it was a constant.  And, becoming a mom brought a whole new level of guilt into my world.

Screen shot 2013-07-23 at 7.58.58 AMI struggle daily with trying to let go of all of the guilt I feel.  Most of it these days is all brought on by myself.  Chris and the boys never say things to purposefully make me feel guilty – they don’t need to because I make myself feel guilty without any help!!!Screen shot 2013-07-23 at 7.57.50 AMMany days I feel like I carry guilt around for no reason.  I have tried to let a lot of things from my past go and tell myself that I should not feel guilty about things I can’t change.  And over the years since becoming a mom, my guilt has actually lessened (not gone completely but much less!) – I spent years feeling like every thing I did was the wrong thing – I was totally clueless about babies and kids and made many mistakes but I think in the big picture everything is really OK.

Screen shot 2013-07-23 at 7.57.18 AMSome days I feel guilty for things that are actually completely beyond my control – but that doesn’t make me feel any less guilty!!!

Even now when we are having a great time on vacation –DSCN1560(how could you not have a great time when this is the destination?) – being on the beach, with my family and some really great friends – I feel guilty.

My sweet Poppa has been in the hospital since Saturday morning.

Poppa with my boys!
Poppa with my boys!

I’ve talked to my twin brother and my younger sister who drove down to be with him in the hospital and still don’t know if I should try to get to Texas or just stay here with my family.

Guilt – a constant struggle to decide the right thing to do and then live with the decision!!!

Do you struggle with guilt?  How do you overcome it?

Happy Tuesday!

Kim
