Friday night in the Turner home!! A pot of taco soup on the stove and a cosmo for me!! (in my favorite martini glass)
Texas Martini Glass
Chris makes an awesome cosmo. It is called an “Educated Cosmopolitan” and the first time I had one was when we were on a trip to Biloxi, MS in about 2003. The waiter recommended it for me (my first cosmo/martini ever) and I’ve been a total fan since!!!
Another great day with the boys home – this time all 3 since Chris is off work today!!! I asked Jordan and Hunter if they would let me record them for the 43 demo today and they were happy to jump!!
For the 43 I did frog jumps! It is basically a forward moving jump squat where you touch your fingers to the ground each time. I did 3 frog jumps then jumped up in the air to turn around and do 3 more frog jumps ending with another jump into the air to make 1 rep. My quads were burning and I was sucking air by the time I completed all 43!
As soon as I finished being froggy, I did the rest of my work-out. Chalean Extreme Burn Circuit 2 (biceps, triceps and back). I love to use these weights for this program:
Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells
They are great! Just by twisting the dials you can adjust them from 5 pounds to 52.5 pounds. They are a little bulky, especially if you just want a small weight, but once you get used to them they are awesome!!! You can find them at bowflex.com or amazon.com as well as Dick’s Sporting Goods.
It is parent/teacher conference time so the boys are out of school today and tomorrow – Yippee!!! I figured since they were home, they could be part of my 43!!
Today I decided to let my 43 be my only work-out so I wanted to do something that I felt like gave me a little toning and a little cardio. I decided to make loops through the house. I started at the bottom of one staircase, walked up (14 steps), walked through to the other staircase (about 18-19 steps), down the steps (14 steps) then through to return to base of first set of steps (23-24 steps). After each loop I jumped up and did a mini pull-up on this fun bar:
Pull-up Bar
It was a nice 43/work-out for an easy day. The boys each did their age in loops, too.
Jordan doing 13 loops!
Look how tall he is!!! He did his loops much faster but I did have 30 more than him!
Hunter doing 11 loops!!
Hunter really raced through his. I think he was disappointed when he realized that I was adding in the pull-up each time and he hadn’t done that part – maybe he will do some pull-ups later.
1/2 c chopped walnuts, optional (I did not use these)
For the swirl…..1 T ground cinnamon
3 T brown sugar
2 T white granulated sugar
For the glaze…..1 c powdered sugar
about 1 1/2 T milk
1 t ground cinnamon (to taste)
Pre-heat oven to 350.
Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl for a minute; set aside.
Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly before adding the next. Beat in the sour cream and vanilla until combined. Add the flour mixture, stirring just until combined. Stir in the walnuts.
Butter a 10″ bundt pan (I just sprayed mine), and lightly dust with flour. Pour half the batter into the pan and spread evenly. Mix the ingredients for the swirl in a small bowl. Sprinkle evenly around the center of the batter. Cover with the rest of the batter.
Bake for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool 20 minutes before removing from the pan.
For the glaze: Add the powdered sugar to a small bowl, stir in enough milk to create a thick, but pourable glaze. Stir in the cinnamon to taste Drizzle over the top of the cake.
Cinnamon Swirl Sour Cream Bundt Cake
I’m showing restraint and not eating any now – I will wait for Chris and the boys to be here! I’m sure that using the fat-free sour cream saved a lot of calories!!!! Maybe small pieces! 😀
I like to do some form of push-ups every week for one of 43s because I want to build up to the point were I can do LOTS of push-ups!!!
Today I did a basic push-up
Push-up (to T-stand)
to a T-stand (on the T-stand I alternated sides).
T-Stand (from push-up)
I did 43 total push-ups so 22 T-stands on the right side and 21 on the left side. I kept my push-ups slow to provide extra resistance and then held each T-stand for a 2-count.
After my 43 I wasn’t really motivated to lift weight so I did part of a new work-out. It is one of the 10 Minutes Solution DVDs (which I love!!!) – Ultimate Boot Camp with Jessica Smith. I did 2 sections: Fat fighting skills & drills (cardio) and Six pack ab attack. Then I decided I was ready to hit the weights!! Today started week 3 of Chalean Extreme Burn Circuit. I’m happy that I got in my weights after all!
I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures above but last night was hair night and I decided it was time for a fall look – back to brunette with some red streaks!!!
I’m spending the afternoon volunteering at Hunter’s school and I think this morning I will bake something for the boys. I’m not really a baker (I love to cook!) but the cloudy, cooler weather just makes it seem like the thing to do (and the house will smell great!!).
