I am a 44 year old wife, mom and athlete. I started running in high school and have loved it ever since. As I got older, I had to stop running every day so I added in weight training and all sorts of fun work-outs like Insanity, P90X and Turbo Fire. I'm a certified personal trainer and I love all aspects of fitness.

“It’s a Bad Idea”

Today I did another combo move for the 43.  I did a single-leg dead lift with a reverse grip row.  This one took awhile because I like to do dead lifts at a slow, controlled pace and I had to do 2 sets of 43 to get both legs taken care of equally!!

You can see that I have a slight bend in my base leg – I would rather do that than end up rounding my back and hurting myself.

I liked this 43 – I prefer moves that work multiple muscle groups and this one got my hamstrings and back really well!!!

I did Day 3 of the 12 Days of Fitness – this is really a fun idea!

I also used Hunter’s new punching bag again today.

I love this thing!!!  I did a solid 22 minutes on the punching bag – 3 sets of 50 single arm jabs (each side) and 500 alternating punches  plus a set of 100 single arm jabs (each side) and then 1000 alternating punches.  Then I did about 3 minutes with the speed bag – I need to work on my timing  for sure!!

I’m hoping that all of the punching will increase my shoulder strength – plus it has to be good for my core!!!  :Delighted:

My original plan for today was to hop on the elliptical.  I sort-of really hate that machine but I decided it would be a good cardio alternative while I can’t run.  I said something about it last night to Chris and he was adamantly against it.  He thinks that I’m going to have to be out of running even longer than 8 weeks because of my complete disregard of the Doc’s rules.  He feels the need to keep reminding me that it’s not just about not running – I’m supposed to be completely non-weight bearing (crutches).  Blah, blah, blah…….I know he’s right but I’m still not going to quit all working out!!!  I figured nixing the elliptical was a good compromise!

I think I mentioned before that Hunter is very good at solving this little puzzle:Rubik Cube

Well, yesterday afternoon he got a new challenge handed to him.

By the time he went to bed last night he had pretty much figured out how to solve it – he just needed to perfect the technique and “get quicker”.

Here he is this morning with both of them solved (although he is still trying to decide on the “best” method for the 4 x 4).  Genius!!!

Jordan doesn’t have any interest in trying to solve it.  He just waits for Hunter to solve it and then acts like he did it!!! Then, he messes it up again!!!  Silly!

Happy Fun Friday!!!

Time to Buckle Down

Today, I needed a partner for my 43. Thanks, Jordan.  (Except, he only did the easy part.  When I offered to switch with him he said – no, that’s OK.  Weak!!!)

The 43 was a partner leg lift.  I laid on the ground in front of Jordan and held onto his ankles.  I raised my legs to 90 degrees and he pushed them down.  I had to hold my abs (very) tight to control my legs on the way down and then bring them up for another rep.

Sorry for cutting your head off, Jordan.  (Hunter was still sleeping and apparently, the timer function on my camera doesn’t work for video.)  Oh, well – you get the point!

The last 8 or so were HARD!!!!

Yesterday, the Fitnessista, started a 12 Days of Fitness Challenge.  I think it will be a fun addition to my daily work-outs.  If you are interested, the challenge is here.  I like that each day  ends with a 1 minute plank hold – hopefully this will help me be able to reach my goal of holding an extended plank (on hands with arms fully extended) for 5+ minutes!

I feel like I have lost a lot of my cardio in the last 3.5 weeks and that is going to change!!!  I still can’t run but I’m going to increase my work-outs again!

Today I did one of The Firm DVDs – Dangerous Curves Ahead.  The thing I like about most of the Firm work-outs is the combination of cardio and toning.  This one is almost an hour and I did keep the entire thing low impact (even though I hate doing that!!) so that my hip will hopefully heal!

Chris went back to work and the boys and I have a couple of projects to get done around the house today.  Good news – tonight is Thirsty Thursday!!!  Looking forward to hooking up with some friends for!!

Happy Thursday!

Hooray for Another Family Day!!!

Chris decided to take a day of leave and hang out with us today!!!  Yippee!  Then he only has to work Thursday and Friday this week – not too bad.  I love it when we all hang out together!

For my 43 today (Chris said he didn’t stay home to do 43 of anything – weird – I figured he would like this one!), I wanted to do some type of push-ups.  Plyo!!!  Jordan likes to do push-up demos usually but today he wasn’t totally into it (too much Christmas, maybe!).

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN5jGcmjsH8′]

I asked him to record me doing a couple – he said only if I still used his video – of course!!!

I wasn’t sure if I would be able to do all 43 on my toes or not.  I made it!!!  I did stop and stretch several times, though. That little jump is no joke!!!

Last night, a new friend (one of our neighbor’s daughters – in town for Christmas), text and asked if she could come over this morning to work out.  Yes!!!  Always fun to have a work-out partner.  I pulled out a favorite – Les Mills Combat.  Because of the stress fracture and DR rules, I haven’t done this in 3+ weeks – ahhhhh – so great today!!!  Erin liked it to.  We both got in a great work-out and had fun!!!

Our Christmas day was perfect.  We had plenty of time to relax and enjoy each other.  Last night we played games, ate (way too much) and hung out – awesome!!!

Chris did a great job with the turkey:

Everyone had fun at dinner, I think.

Good news – plenty of left-overs so I don’t need to cook today!!!  More time with my boys!!!

Happy Wednesday!

Merry Christmas, Y’all!

Merry Christmas!  Since the boys are older and at least one of them (Hunter) likes to sleep in, I had time to do my 43 before we did our stockings this morning!

Today I used one of Hunter’s new Christmas gifts for my 43.

Hunter wanted a punching bag/speed bag combo unit (and, I’m really glad he got it!!!!).

For the 43 I did a combo move:

  • 5 right jabs
  • left-right punch x 5

I did 43 of the above combo and then switched my stance and did 43 of the combo starting with left jabs.  Worked up a sweat for sure!!!

Check out the awesome shirt designed by this phenomenal running artist (just don’t check out the holiday belly underneath!).

Yesterday we had so much fun as a family.  I think everyone was happy with their gifts – always a good thing.  Here are some of the favorites:

Lots of fun as a family.  I love it!!!

Another of our Christmas traditions is to do Raclette on Christmas Eve for dinner.  (I think true Raclette involves way more cheese than anything else.) Some great friends of ours introduced this fun way to cook dinner to us several years ago.  We always make it a competition to see who makes the best of each meat – steak, chicken, shrimp.  The set-up looks like this:

It really is a lot of fun.  Last night, Jordan won for best chicken, Chris for steak and Hunter for shrimp.  Hunter was also the all-around winner!!! (notice who didn’t win anything??)

I love that no matter how old (and big!) the boys get, we still do milk and cookies for Santa!

Jordan even wrote a note for Santa:

This morning we did our stocking, stuffed ourselves with reindeer bread and now everyone is checking out all of their new stuff!!!  Later we will play some games with a friend who will join us for the afternoon and evening.  Chris will make a turkey for us in his new indoor turkey fryer.  (the very best way to have a turkey!!)

I decided to keep the meal fairly simple this year but I did make 2 tasty desserts – a cherry trifle and a candy bar brownie trifle.

Reindeer Bread

Christmas morning breakfast tradition!!!  (occasionally other times through-out the year)

  • 3-4 cans of biscuits (depends on size – I use Grands & only need 3)
  • mixture of sugar & cinnamon (personal preference for amount here)
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 c packed brown sugar (I usually add a little extra)

Grease a bundt pan very well.  Cut biscuits into 4ths or 6ths.  Put sugar and cinnamon mixture in a plastic bowl with a good lid or in a baggie.  Shake biscuit pieces (a few at a time) in sugar mixture then put in prepared pan.  (I always do this part the night before and then cover it and refrigerate overnight.)

Heat oven to 350.  In a small sauce pan, melt butter and brown sugar; bring to a boil.  Pour butter mixture over biscuits.

Bake for 35 minutes.  Let stand for 10 minutes then turn onto plate.  Enjoy!!
