Pictures of some Happy Times!!!

Today for my 43 I met Stacey (my sister-in-law) in the hotel fitness center (not much there but we made it work!!).  I started out with 43 minutes on one of my least favorite machines – the elliptical – Screen shot 2013-08-24 at 8.04.55 AM

Then, since Stacey was doing her WOD, (run 1 mile, 100 hand-release push-ups, run 1 mile, 100 low squats with hands over head, run 1 mile 100 butterfly sit-ups, run 1 mile) I decided to do all the moves for 43 reps!!!

43 hand release push-ups (these are hard!!!) – Stacey let me film her for the demo!!!

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90NLesl_DLY’]

43 butterfly sit-ups – no picture because Stacey was running – but these are with your feet together – a full sit-up – I put my hands over my head on the down part and touched my toes on the up part.

43 low squats keeping my hands up above my head the entire time – I usually only squat to 90 but today I actually did these by dropping my butt lower – I might be sore when I drive home tonight!!!

It was fun to workout with Stacey – we like to do similar things so it is always a good time!!!

Still spotty internet but I did get some pictures uploaded from yesterday!!

Today I did a whole lotta’  kicking for my 43.  I started with 43 x a right side kick and went right into 43 x right front kick, left back kick.  Then I started over with 43 x a left side kick followed by 43 x left front kick, right back kick.

(side note – demo was after my workout was completely done – my legs were tired and sort of flailing!!!)

I did an old favorite today – Les Mills Combat – Combat 60, Extreme Cardio Fighter.  I love this hour long workout full of punching, kicking and lots of cardio.  The last segment (before the cool down) is some core work – always a bonus!!!

Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness nominated me for the Sunshine Award.  We already know that I don’t always participate correctly – I’m going to answer the questions because they are fun but I’m not tagging anyone because I would pick everyone!!  Sorry, Charlotte!

1.  What is your favorite dessert?
I don’t eat desserts often but I LOVE hot brownies that are just a little gooey!

2.  If you could only go to one website for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Well, if I said BlogLovin is it cheating to clink on links from there?!  I’m not sure I can pick one website – and I NEED to go to Amazon on lots of occasions!!

3.  If you could live in any time period, when would it be?
I think I would have enjoyed a lot of things about living in the early 1900s.  I like the work ethic of so many people from long ago – the only thing I would hate is outdoor plumbing!!!

An Attempt at Being Crafty

Today for my 43 I combined a couple of moves and ended up with a pretty good overall move!!  I started with a pair of dumbbells (10 pounds) and stepped my right foot out wide.  From there I lifted my left leg and hinged forward trying to make a straight line with my body parallel to the floor (balance work!!).  After I stood, I did a squat with my feet together before stepping wide to the left and repeating the series with the other leg to complete 1 rep.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mybm5CsTBwM’]

Clearly, I have some wobbles but I enjoyed this move – 86 balance challenges + 86 squats to complete all 43.

I had plans for the rest of my workout but I had to add an extra trip to the middle school (before 7am) to drop off some stuff and be home in time to drive the boys to school and by the time I finished the morning drive I decided that today would be a good day-off!!!  It’s rare for me to randomly decide to skip a workout but today is one of those days!!

Screen shot 2013-08-16 at 8.24.17 AMToo bad it is just a day off from working out and not a true day off – spent on the beach in the sun – I guess I will just pretend to be on the beach!!!

Screen shot 2013-08-16 at 8.14.04 AMI know people who are super crafty and creative – they come up with some of the neatest ideas.  I am not one of those people!!!  Crafting is not a strong point for me and my creativity is almost nonexistent!

However, every once in awhile I make an attempt to be a bit crafty.  This week I have been working on a welcome back to school gift for all of the middle school teachers (all 80!!).

After finally deciding to get them gift cards from Starbucks, I decided that it would be fun to jazz up the presentation of the gift card.  After a trip to Hobby Lobby, Starbucks (for the gift cards and cup sleeves) – I printed out a little thank you and then did lots (and lots) of gluing!!!

DSCN1909For a noncrafty person like me – I think it came out OK (I hope so anyway!!!).

DSCN1911My stacks of 80 cards ready to be delivered (the reason for the 6:30 trip to the middle school!!!).

Are you crafty?  Do you enjoy the whole act of being creative?

Happy Friday!!!  I’m going to enjoy my pretend day off!!!

Kim

PS – this was a gift from the PTO for the teachers not just from me!!!  I somehow ended up as co-president of the PTO for the middle school this year and we didn’t have anyone who signed up to help with teacher appreciation so it sort of fell to me to get something done.

Some Happy News!!!

Today for my 43 I used a fun piece of equipment that I really want to use more but this little thing called TIME is holding me back –

always a fun piece!
always a fun piece!

Instead of punching, I did front kicks!!!

I did 43 with my right leg and then switched and did 43 with my left.

And, in case you can’t tell – the pictures are me trying to pose (they were after I was done with my workout) and my balance was off!!!

I got up before the roosters so I could run (3rd day in a row – longest streak in a long time!!!) on my treadmill again and still have the entire day to tackle my long list of projects.

I ran with 1.5% incline – 6 miles in 41:52 (about 6:59 average pace) and then did 1.5 miles much slower for my cool down.  I’m happy that after 3 consecutive days of good runs my legs feel OK!!

Poppa
Poppa

Some of you might remember that the day we got to Florida (July 20) my Poppa had to be airlifted to the hospital.  He had a heart attack and tests later revealed that his heart was only operating at about 15%.

He was in the hospital for about a week and a half and then he was moved into a rehab hospital to try and regain some strength.  He has been in the rehab hospital for 2 weeks now and gotten a little stronger every day.

My twin brother (Tim) called me yesterday and said that this afternoon he gets to return to his beloved ranch on the mountain!!!

DSCN3202

I know that it will be a hard road for my aunt since she lives at the ranch with him and is the primary (sole) care-giver but I’m so excited that he gets to go home!!!  Hopefully I can get down to help out soon!!

At 98 he will never fully regain his strength but I know that he will be much happier at the ranch than in a hospital and I am very excited for him to go home!!!

Happy Thursday!!

Feeling Old and Creaky

Today for my 43 I did a straight leg dead lift (one of my favorite moves!!) and a front raise (one of my least favorite moves!!).

start
start

For the dead lift, keep your back flat (stick your butt out) and slide the weights down your legs –

Slowly come back up while pulling your weights up your legs – then lift arms up in front of you to shoulder height.

front raise

I can tell my shoulders are getting stronger (finally!!) because I did all 43 with 8 pound dumbbells – I thought that I would have to switch to 5s at some point but I made it!!!

Today is a much needed rest day – mostly because I can barely walk!!!  Screen shot 2013-08-08 at 8.48.00 AM

On Tuesday, I decided that 43 x 200 meters would be a good 43 as well as a great speed workout!!  And it was a really good workout – I felt strong running the entire time.  And then, yesterday came along – Screen shot 2013-08-08 at 8.44.51 AM

I worked out yesterday morning thinking that would help the residual soreness from Tuesday.  WRONG!!!  As the day went on, I think I got more and more sore – mostly my quads.  Going down stairs was not pretty – Hunter kept asking if I was OK – NO!!!  I can barely walk!!Screen shot 2013-08-08 at 8.49.05 AM

Yesterday, I absolutely did not look like a runner!!!!  This morning when I jumped
crawled out of bed, I realized that my legs were even worse today – Good Times!!!  I’m pretty sure that back in high school and college I bounced back from speed work a little lot quicker.  The day after speed work should look more like this – Screen shot 2013-08-08 at 8.49.58 AMI’m usually completely happy with my age but yesterday and today are one of those rare occasions when I wish I were a little younger (or at least still had the same recovery ability of someone half my age)!!!

I guess today is one of those days were I just need to – Suck it up!!!!Screen shot 2013-08-08 at 8.43.27 AMI’m not sure that I’m smiling about the pain right now but I’m going to pretend!!

I’m happy and thankful that I can still push myself as hard as I did when I was younger, I just wish that I could recover the way I used to – I guess 1 out of 2 isn’t bad!

Ever have those days where you feel much older than your age?

Happy Thursday – I will be in my rocking chair!!!Screen shot 2013-08-08 at 9.10.11 AM
