Catching Up (9/28 – 10/11)

I didn’t do my normal Saturday post last weekend so I have 2 weeks worth of 45s to share today!!!

I’m still doing Brooke’s (Wrecking Routine) workouts – Boomer’s Burn.  Lots of great workouts everyday!!!

Sunday 9/28  45 cross body inner thigh raises.

right leg
right leg
lift leg (squeeze inner thigh)
lift leg (squeeze inner thigh)

Besides working your thighs, this move is great for balance!!!  And because I like balance I had to switch sides and repeat –

left leg ready
left leg ready
lift and squeeze
lift and squeeze

Monday 9/29  45 front kick-back kick while standing on a wobble ball.

This move was definitely a challenge!  I wobbled a lot.  Even though I only did one leg in the video, I did 45 with both legs.

Boomer’s Burn was a combination of strength and running – my favorite!!!

Then a 6 mile run in 41:53.

Tuesday 9/30  45 T push-ups.

Coming all the way back up from the floor is no joke!!!

I found a Piyo workout that I really liked – Core!  This one was so much more fun for me than some of the previous ones!!!

Boomer’s Burn was an interval workout – love really pushing myself for short bursts!!

Wednesday 10/1  45 curtsey lunges with a side bend while keeping hands raised overhead.

lunge with right leg, bend left
lunge with right leg, bend left
step out of lunge bend to the right
step out of lunge bend to the right

I did all 45 with the right leg then switched and did another set with the left leg lunging.

lunge with left leg
lunge with left leg
step out and bend right
step out and bend right

Boomer’s Burn was all about strength work!!!

And, it was a running day – 8 miles in 60:16.

Thursday 10/2  45 arm circles with 5 pound weights.

The video messed up but it is a basic move – hold your arms out to the sides and circle front for 45 circles then back for 45.

I did Fat Burning Pilates – a decent workout without killing myself!!!

Boomer’s Burn was all about intervals – this one was awesome and I did a total of 6 miles to complete the workout!!!

Friday 10/3  45 wacky jacks.

Thanks to Jordan for letting me record him on this move.

I skipped my normal workout because I had been up all night Thursday night stirring my crockpots of taco meat.  (I thought it would be FUN to do all the food for Chris’ party!!!)

Saturday 10/4  45 standing crunch with a knee in (arms raised overhead the entire time).

crunch with right knee in
crunch with right knee in

Switch sides and do 45 more –

left knee in

I loved this move – so much more fun to do standing crunches!!

Stacy and I got in a cold run around the lake (6 miles) before we started working on the last minute stuff for the big party.  Always fun to run with Stacy since it rarely happens!!

Sunday 10/5  45 ottoman push-ups to Griffin!!!

Hi, Griffin

I was keeping Griffin entertained (and awake) while Mandi finished getting ready and packing for their drive home!!!

Monday 10/6  45 squats on wobble balls – alternate touching inside of right foot and left foot (right-left = 1 rep).

This move was fun!!  I tried to squat low – I don’t always go below 90 when I squat but on this day I did!!

Boomer’s Burn was a cardio/strength workout again – one of my favorites!!!

I also ran 6 miles in 44:37.

Tuesday 10/7  45 triangle presses.

left hand down right hand up

This move is a good one to do slowly and really work on the stretch.  I’m not super flexible so it is a challenge for me!!!  (I counted a right-left as 1 rep)

I did another Piyo workout that I really liked – Buns – some fun ways to work my butt!!!

Boomer’s Burn was another great interval workout!!  I think that even after I finish this program next week I will keep incorporating interval days – love how hard it makes me push myself!!!

Wednesday 10/8  45 leg circles (on all 4s) with leg at about a 45 degree angle from body.

position
position

This is the basic position – it doesn’t really matter if you circle font or back – same effect.  I had a video but encountered some technical difficulties.  I did  45 with each leg!!

Boomer’s Burn focused on body weight moves (I did end up adding weights though)!

And I managed 9 miles in 66:30 – lately I haven’t been able to get in many long runs – need to work on that!

Thursday 10/9  45 jack with front kick.  This move is one that Nellie (Brooklyn Active Mama)  just posted about for a Weekly Wednesday Workout.

Thanks to Hunter for doing the demo!!!

I counted a right kick and a left kick as one rep.  I actually added a bit more of a hop on the kicks.

I found another one of the Piyo workouts that I like – Strength Intervals!!!

This was supposed to be another interval day for Boomer’s Burn but I ended up just walking 3.5 miles.

Friday 10/10  45 plie squats with feet on wobble balls.

ready
ready
down

Staying balanced on the balls was harder for a plie squat than a regular squat!!!

I finished up the week with a strength workout for Boomer’s Burn!!!

Saturday 10/11  45 front kick with toe touch – a stretching move and very hard for me!!!

right kick - touch with left hand
right kick – touch with left hand

I did all 45 with my right leg and then switched to do more with my left.

left kick - touch with right hand
left kick – touch with right hand

I think that I have less flexibility on this side!!!

I’ve been trying to mix up my workouts and still keep running – my mileage is lower than it had been for awhile but that is probably a good thing!!!

Happy Saturday!

Kim

Combo Moves (8/3-8/9)

This week’s 44s were all about combining upper and lower body moves – my favorite way to get max results in min time!!

Sunday 8/3  44 plies with bicep curls (10 pound dumbbells).

Monday 8/4  44 single arm lateral raise with leg abduction (8 pound dumbbells).

And, I can’t just work my right side!!!

This move was hard for me!!!

Strength training – Chalean Extreme Lean Circuit 1.
Running – 6 miles in 44:12 followed by 0.35 easy miles.

Tuesday 8/5  44 reverse lunge with shoulder press (8 pound DB).

After completing 44 reps on the right side I had to switch sides!

Long run day – 11 miles in 86:46 followed by 0.9 easy miles.

Wednesday 8/6  44 deadlift with row (15 pound DBs).

After the row, stand back up to complete a rep!  Deadlifts are one of my favorite moves!!!

I only had a short amount of time to workout so I just lifted weights –  Chalean Extreme Lean Circuit 2.

Thursday 8/7  44 squat with front raise (hands together on 1 DB – 12 pounds).

ready

And, this was another long run day – 12 miles in 90:02 + 2.4 easy miles.

Friday 8/8  44 alternate side lunge with overhead triceps extension. (8 pound DB)

start

lunge right arms down
lunge right arms down
back to start

Because I wanted to do 44 lunges to each side, I ended up doing 88 tricep moves!!  My triceps are still sore today!!!  Plus, keeping my arms overhead the entire time was a big challenge.

I only did Chalean Extreme Lean Circuit 3 – it was a struggle for some reason!!!

Saturday 8/9  44 hammer curls with opposite knee lift (12 pound DBs)

ready
ready
curl right with left knee
curl right with left knee
Left curl with right knee
Left curl with right knee

I counted a right curl and left curl as 1 rep.  This was a great move for really working my core – love balance challenges.

Overall this was a good week of workouts.  I didn’t travel to Illinois (obviously!!!) to run the ultra but still got in some good runs and strength workouts.

Happy Saturday (better late than never!!)!!!

Balance Is Key (6/8-6/14)

This week my daily 44s were all about working on balance.  I used my wobble balls for each move –

Sunday 6/8  44 leg abductions while standing on wobble ball.

You can see that I stood on the flat side for this move.  And, after I did 44 abductions with my left leg I had to switch and do another set!!

I promise I really was standing on the wobble ball – sometimes the pictures don’t come out exactly like I want them to!!!

Monday 6/9  44 decline push-ups with my toes on a step and my hands on wobble balls.

Not gonna lie – this move was HARD!!!!

I’ve been lifting fairly consistently again with Chalean Extreme – this day was Burn Circuit 3.  I also did a workout that I don’t do very often – ReeBok Cardio Tone.  Pretty much this was my version of a recovery day!!!

Tuesday 6/10  44 squat pulses on stacked wobble balls (to make an actual ball) –

probably not super safe but.....

Just balancing on the stacked wobble balls was entertaining!!!

This move was a challenge!!!  Once I actually got down into the squat position, I actually got about 16 pulses the first time and then 20 something the next time before falling off.  Obviously, it took several attempts to get all 44.

And, it was a run day!!!
10 miles in 68:11 + 1.1 easy miles

Wednesday 6/11  44 side plank hip dips with elbow on wobble ball.

This move was hard – just holding plank while balancing on the wobble ball was a challenge!!!  After I finally finished the first set I flipped over and had more fun!

Back to the weights – Chalean Extreme – Burn Circuit 1.  Then I did one of my favorite workouts ever – Les Mills Pump – Combat!!!

Thursday 6/12  44 band bicep curls with wobble balls on band.

Adding the wobble balls made this move so much harder – it was a fun challenge!!!

I pulled out another DVD that I rarely do – Mari Winsor Pilates from Shape.  It is a nice recovery type workout.

Friday 6/13  44 lunges on wobble balls.

another one that was hard to get into position for
another one that was hard to get set-up
down

This was hard to balance initially but once I got the position it was good.  By the time I finished 44 my quads were burning!!  The added balance challenge made it a lot different than a standard lunge.  And, of course, I don’t want to be unbalanced so I switched sides and did another set of 44.

And, it was another running day.
10 miles in 79:18 (nice and relaxed today) + 3.1 really easy miles

Saturday 6/14  44 jump squats onto wobble balls.

This actually was a really fun way to do jump squats – the added balance challenge  was great!!!

And, I wanted to get  3 days of lifting so it was another day of Chalean Extreme – Burn Circuit 2.

Lately I’ve been happy with my workouts – I’m trying to keep a mix of running, lifting and other workouts.  In the next few weeks I will probably start to increase my running again – I have a couple of running events coming up and want to be ready.

How often do you work on your balance?

Happy Saturday!!!

Things That Make You Go Hmmm…..

Today was another day that I decided to combine the challenge for #happyfitmarch with my 44.  The challenge today was to do single leg squats for a minute.

I decided to make it more “fun” by doing the squats on a small wobble ball –

right - 34 in one minute
right – 34 in one minute

After doing 44 total on this side, I switched legs and did some more!!!

left leg - 27 in 1 minute
left leg – 27 in 1 minute

I didn’t get as many in a minute on my left side because my balance isn’t as good on that side!!  But I still completed the challenge and my 44.

I was going to run today for the 5th day in a row but decided to wait until tomorrow so I can get in a longer run!!

Instead I did Turbo Fire – Upper 20 and Lower 20.  These are toning workouts using bands and they are very effective!!  The lower one especially had my hips burning!!!

Remember the song – Things That Make You Go Hmmm…?

Well, I have some things that make me go Hmmm…. today!

*  I got a pedicure 2 weeks ago today for our fancy night out.

fancy
fancy

Usually when I get a pedi, it lasts for 3-4 weeks (and that is when I’m walking around in sand at the swim beach!!).  2 weeks into this one and I have chipping –

Hmmmmm.....
Hmmmmm…..

*  Jordan’s  group for the trip to Cali, landed about 6 hours after the first group (that was the schedule all along).  AND, they leave about 6 hours before that same first group on Monday morning so they are losing 12 hours in CA that some of the other groups get.   Hmmmm…..

*  Remember I gave up wine and other cocktails for Lent?  Well, I thought that cutting out happy hour would help me shed a bit in my middle but instead I’ve been eating about 20x more candy than normal!!!

Screen Shot 2014-03-14 at 6.52.20 AMOops!!!  Hmmm……

*  On Wednesday I had a 2nd meeting that a lady had requested with me (she wants to show me what all she does – decorating, catering, event planning…).  She set the time (via email – Screen Shot 2014-03-14 at 6.54.37 AM

Well, I waited and waited on Wednesday  – NO SHOW!!!  Yesterday (Thursday) at 12:25 she called me and said, “I thought we had a 12:30 meeting.”
A.  It isn’t even 12:30 yet!!!
B.  THE MEETING WAS YESTERDAY AND YOU MISSED IT!!!

Hmmmm…….And then she wanted to reschedule!  Really???  Hmmm…..

*  I think that this post is qualifying as an epic fail as far as my plan to implement more of this – Screen Shot 2014-03-12 at 6.51.37 AM

Hmmm…..

What things are making you go Hmmmm…..today?

And for your listening entertainment –

Happy Friday!!

What is Your Cure for Waking Up in a Funk?

Today’s 44 was fun!!  I did a squat with a bonus.  When I squatted, I touched my dumbbells (just 5 pounds) to the floor then jumped up and pushed my dumbbells over head!!

Talk about getting your heart rate way up there really quickly!!!

I did a DVD from a series that I love and haven’t done much lately – Jari Love Get Ripped and Get Extremely Ripped.  Today I did Get Extremely Ripped Lean Body.  I did the 30 minute complete lean body section and a 30 minute body rock section.  By the end, I felt like I had worked every muscle group in my body  – AWESOME!!!

Ever have one of those days where nothing is wrong but you just aren’t completely happy for some reason?!

That’s sort of how I feel – could be the layer of snow/ice/whatever on the ground and the cold temps – but I’m just in a bit of a funk!  So, I decided to  find some fun eCards because they always make me laugh!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 6.51.56 AMThat’s what the song says anyway!!!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 6.52.19 AMThis might happen on occasion – you would think that we are old enough to learn this lesson but…..

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 6.52.41 AMTrying not to be the cloud today!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 6.53.39 AMVery true even though I probably woke up and looked at the clock myself 5 minutes earlier!!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 6.55.17 AMHaHa!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 6.56.30 AMI’m going to try adding the cape – I think it will make me feel more productive!!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 6.57.03 AMActually I don’t wish it would snow but I’m pretty much guaranteed to complain every time it does!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 6.59.22 AMFor real!!  And piling your stuff on top of mine on the belt isn’t the solution either!!!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 6.58.23 AMI know that a lot of parents can relate to this one!

These are so much more fun than listening to me ramble!! And, after I get back from the school drop-off I think I will hop on my treadmill for a run before moving on with the day!

What is your cure on those days when you wake up in a bit of a funk?

Happy Wednesday!

Kim
