Almost Time to Bring out the Trees!!!

Today I did another one of Allie’s moves from her Trifecta Arm video – she called this one “pick up the baby.”  I called it HARD!!!!

Start in a plank with dumbbells (I used 10 pounds) – step right foot in, stand and lunge with a bicep curl – step right foot back to plank – repeat on left side = 1 rep.

44 of these and I nearly called my workout for the day done!!!  (just kidding – sort of!)

I did Jillian Michaels Hard Body – Level 2.  Umm….this was the first time I’ve done this part and it was a great workout!  Lots of plyo moves with weights, some balance challenges and some core work – awesome!!!

I decided to get in a quick run – last week I had a great week of long and slow but every once in awhile I like to push my speed a little.  I did 4 miles at 1.5% incline in 24:27 then 0.6 miles easy to cool down.

Screen shot 2013-11-25 at 7.09.12 AMToday is deep clean day – baseboards, corners, under furniture – I can hardly wait!!!  (well, that might be exaggerating a bit!!)

But, it’s for a good cause –

Some of my favorite people  are coming later this week to spend Thanksgiving with us!!!  And that is something I truly am excited about!!!

Screen shot 2013-11-25 at 7.14.37 AMAnd then I can turn my super clean house into a Christmas wonderland!!!  I’ve made myself hold off on decorating this year until after Thanksgiving and I feel like I’m missing out on trees and lights but it will be worth it soon!!!

I love having Christmas decorations all over the house!!!  Christmas trees in every room and Santas galore – it is awesome!!!

Have you decorated for Christmas or do you wait until after Thanksgiving?

Happy Monday!

Sore not Hurt!!!

Today’s 44 was one of those that seemed like a great idea until I did about 10 – then it was just HARD!!!  I used a stability ball and got into the plank position (feet on ball).  Then I alternated bringing my knee to my elbow (a right and left was 1 rep).

The last 20ish were rough – I had a hard time staying in plank because the ball kept rolling around (maybe I wasn’t holding my core tight enough)!!!  Fun times!!!

Screen shot 2013-11-23 at 8.22.04 AMThis week I’ve actually been doing a little experiment with my running – and it has been great!!!

3 mornings – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – after my first workout and getting the boys to school I have hopped on the treadmill to log some miles.  I have forced myself to slow my pace so that I can increase my mileage.

Screen shot 2013-11-23 at 8.23.53 AMI’ve mentioned many times that I can’t run every day anymore because of the many injuries (mostly stress fractures) that I’ve had over the past few years.  Chris always says that the problem isn’t just running but that I tend to run too hard.

So, this week, I just ran!
     Monday – 12 miles
     Wednesday – 10.5 miles
     Friday – 16.5 miles
     Week total – 39 miles!!

I think that running on semi-tired legs is going to help me later (if I decide to try another ultra!!!).

The best part about my experiment?!  My legs were a bit sore after each run (part of why I’ve forced myself to stretch this week!) but I completed all of my runs without any pain!!!!

Maybe Chris has been right all along – just don’t tell him!!!

Happy Saturday!!

Veteran’s Day

For my 44 today I did a bicep curl (with 10 pound dumbbells – plenty for this many reps!) while staying in a squat position for all 44.  My quads were burning!!!

Nice sweaty pictures since they were after my workout.  I ran today because it will probably be the only day this week that I can run.  I did 10 miles with the treadmill at 1.5% incline (73:27) + 2 easy miles to cool down.

Screen shot 2013-11-10 at 3.46.01 PMVeteran’s Day is to celebrate the service of all of the US military – past and present!

The Commonwealth countries  celebrate Remembrance Day or Armistice Day on November 11.

The red remembrance poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem “In Flanders Fields“. These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled in the war.

Screen shot 2013-11-10 at 3.50.47 PMThis day marks the anniversary of the end of World War I – the major hostilities were formally ended at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

I think that now more than ever it is important to show support for all of the military men and women who willingly serve their country in ways that many people would never dream of doing.

Since Chris is in the military, we have lots of friends who are Veterans but I have 3 people that are the most special Veterans in my life.

Chris who is still serving our country –

Blues - the official unifrom
Blues – the official uniform (usually he wears his flight suit)

My Dad who spent most of his career in the US Air Force.  (pretty sad that I don’t have any pictures!)

And, my Poppa who served in the US Navy during World War II –

on his 90th birthday (tomorrow he would be 99)

Happy Veteran’s Day to all of the many Veterans and THANK YOU for all you do!!!

Happy Monday!

Memory – Can you Remember what you Forgot?

I used my BOSU for the 44 again (such a fun piece of equipment!!).  Today’s move was all about balance!!!  I did jump squats.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym22a52AGWE’]

Just to say – the video was right after I finished running 10 miles and Jordan said I only got one chance – pretty shaky on those jumps!!!  (That’s why I always do my 44 before the rest of my workout – more strength then!!)

So, the rest of the workout was running – 1.5% incline – 8 miles in 59:55 + 2 more miles at a nice easy pace.  It’s been awhile since I’ve put in that many miles so it was nice to get a long run today!!!

Screen shot 2013-11-07 at 7.07.45 AMDo you have a good memory?

I used to think I did – I never needed a grocery list, I could rattle off phone numbers, when I taught I knew all of the my student’s names (usually 100+) by the 2nd day.

Now it’s a completely different story!!!  When I use something up in the kitchen I can’t even remember to write it on the list (which I have to have!!!).

One day I called someone and ended up leaving a message for them to call me back – I said the first 3  numbers of my phone # and went completely blank on the rest!!!  Duh….

Screen shot 2013-11-07 at 7.08.07 AMWhen the boys ask me about doing something later in the day or for the next day I usually tell them sure but they will need to remind me!  (They don’t get that at all!!!)

I know that there are tricks for helping your memory but I can’t even remember what they are!!!

Screen shot 2013-11-07 at 7.09.13 AMYep – that’s pretty much how I feel most of the time.  I have to write everything down (in my calendar!) or there is very little chance that I will remember.

I guess I better never misplace my calendar because I would never remember where I put it!!!

Do you struggle to remember simple things?  Does it bug you?

I have to be honest – it causes me stress – good thing the stress doesn’t last long since I can’t remember what it is that’s bothering me!!!

Happy Thursday!

Kim

Being a Landlord is not for the Weak

Today’s 44 is one that Tamara (Fitknitchick) demoed the other day – a BOSU deck squat.  (Check out her site because her video is great – lots of tips on the proper way to perform this move.)

My video is not nearly as informative – just me, my BOSU, and a dumbbell (15 pounds).

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qA3UA7hbZ0′]

This was a fun move – hard for sure!!!  Definitely going to do this one again and again!!

I also got in a short run today (4 miles 24:19) plus another 1.5 miles nice and easy!!

Earlier this week I shared about the scare I had when one of our tenants decided to use the venue as her moving out route.  Yesterday I went over to make sure that she had moved out and pick up her keys (she didn’t return them – BIG SHOCK!!!).  Good thing I’m friends with a locksmith now!!!

Here are some pictures of the apartment and the way she left it – I’m sad that there is no way to share the STENCH through the internet – the smell about sent me over the edge – a mix of urine,  a cat litter box that hadn’t been emptied in a good year, body odor, garbage  and shit (literally!).

So much stuff everywhere – hard to believe that she actually moved out.

And….the final picture (brace yourself!!) –

NO WORDS!!
NO WORDS!!

Yep – that is what you would not except to find in a place where real people live.  Just seeing the picture is grossing me out since I saw (and smelled) it in person.

Who knew that being a landlord would be so much fun?!  I’m hoping that once we get the place cleaned up and ready to rent again we will find someone as great as our other new tenant!!!

Happy Saturday!!
