Daily Moves (10/26 – 11/1)

This week I did a new 45 every day but that was pretty much the only fitness that I was able to do.  My body/mind is screaming for some cardio and sweating but……

Sunday 10/26  45 push-ups on the boat.

Best 45 ever because it was such a gorgeous day and I got my movement in while enjoying the last boat ride of the year!!!

Can’t beat the fresh air while doing some push-ups!!!

Monday 10/27  45 leg drops with a band pull.

I kept my upper body off the ground the entire time to make this move harder – it was definitely hard!!!

I did do The Firm – Cardio AbSession & Burn, Shape & Tone.  This ended up being the same as the Cardio Core Fusion that I did last week with the fun pink balls –

Tuesday 10/28  45 side lying scissors while on wobble disc.

Over course I had to do another set while lying on the other hip.

I liked the added balance challenge from the wobble disc!!!

Wednesday 10/29  45 plank – partner hand slaps.

Because I’m not working out in the mornings my whole routine is off.  On Wednesday I didn’t actually do my 45 until about 9:30 at night (rare to not do it first thing!!).

This move was fun to do with Jordan – he did awesome and completed all 45 with me – that’s a long time to hold plank since we counted 1 rep as 2 hand slaps!!

Thursday 10/30  45 bent over wide row with dumbbells (12 pounds).

This is one of those moves that always seems like it should be easy and it is until after about 20 reps!!!

Friday 10/31  45 double arm overhead press with dumbbell (15 pounds).

And, I look like the “stay-puff guy”  because I have on so many layers in those pictures.  Remember at the beginning of the week we were enjoying a final boat ride???

Well, Friday was COLD!!  I spent the morning at the high school state cross country meet and needed every layer I had on plus some!!! The windchill was in the 20s!

Saturday 11/1  45 repeaters – knee up with a twist – knee up front = 1 rep.

Knee up with twist

Bring your knee up with a twist, return to start (tap toe if you need to), bring knee up in front for 1 rep.  This move actually goes quickly and is at least a little bit of cardio.

Of course, you have to be equal and fair to your legs so set 2 is on the other leg.

By pumping my arms and moving quickly I did get my heart rate up a little for the first time in awhile!!!  And, this move is great for your core because of the knee lift (get it high!!) and the twist!!!

Happy Saturday!

Favorite Traditions

Today’s 44 was another plank variation – using my BOSU!!!  I flipped the BOSU over and did a plank with my toes on it.  Then I alternated stepping my feet off and back on.

My arms were shaking by the time I finished all 44 reps – between holding plank (2:10) and the balance challenge from using the BOSU upside down – this was tough!!!

I know that everyone develops their own traditions over the years – some are passed down from generation to generation and others are new.  I thought today I would share a few of our favorite Christmas traditions.

1.  Since we have trees in every room, we use the tree in our down-stairs living room to put presents under.

sometimes the presents go around more than under
sometimes the presents go around more than under

2.  We open presents on Christmas Eve and we always just do 1 at a time.  I like doing it this way because we can actually watch everyone opening their gifts and take time to really appreciate all of them!

Hunter's big gift this year was a keyboard!!

I might be as excited about this one as Hunter!!!  Maybe I can learn to play again, too!

Jordan with 3-D glasses – nice!!!  Funny, no pictures of me – I have the camera(s)!!!

3.  On Christmas Eve we use our raclette grill and have a fun contest!  We all cook shrimp, chicken and steak and vote on the winner in each category and the over-all.  It is fun to make different seasonings and marinades.

There are times that Hunter will put some of each seasoning in his mixture – fun times!!!

Jordan and Chris were the top winners this year.  I didn’t get a single vote!!

4.  On Christmas morning, we get to check our stockings!!  We always have stockings in our upstairs living room.

This tradition has changed as the boys have gotten older.  Now they get dressed first (notice how Hunter went with red & green?!) and I’m wearing my sweaty running stuff because I had already gotten in almost 6 miles!  Still a fun tradition!!

5.  We always have Reindeer Bread for breakfast after stockings!

deliciousness!

I think a lot of people call this Bubble Bread or Monkey Bread but in our family it is Reindeer Bread no matter what time of year we have it!

So, just a few of our favorite ways to enjoy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

What are some of your favorite family traditions?

Happy Sunday!!

We Baked (sort-of!!)

Today I tried a new to me move for my 44.  I saw a similar move somewhere (sorry, can’t remember where) and changed it up just a bit to make it work for a 44.

I did a plank – right arm reach forward – right hand touch left ankle – plank – left arm reach forward – left hand touch right ankle for each rep.  (the pictures will make more sense)

This is another one of those moves that about half-way through I started thinking I should have timed it to see how long I was in the plank/downward dog position – oh, well I didn’t care enough to start over!!!

My neighbor’s daughter who is visiting for Christmas came over to workout with me – we had decided last night at the Christmas Eve Eve party

Christmas Eve Eve
Christmas Eve Eve

to get together for our 2nd annual Christmas workout!!!

She was up for any type of workout so I pulled out one from the summer (Pyramid Boot Camp) and added a little to make it really tough!!!  In the summer, we just did 10 exercises up the pyramid (10 reps each) and then back down.  Today I added in 2 more moves so we did 12 up then back down.

  • 230 squats (+ more for the squat w/back kick that I added)
  • 110 push-ups
  • 130 lunges each leg
  • 30 burpees
  • plus all of the other stuff which I didn’t calculate

It was a good workout.  We ended with a max plank hold (arms extended) – we made it to 3 minutes and called it good!!!

I’m pretty sure that I’ve mentioned more than once that I don’t bake.  I love to cook but baking…..However, yesterday morning I pulled the boys into the kitchen and we baked (our version!).

The boys unwrapped the kisses and put them on the pretzels – I know they enjoyed it!!

We also made Rice Krispy treats, a simple chocolate candy that I’ve made for years and some brown sugar oatmeal cookies (I really did bake these!).

It is so much more fun to do stuff like that when the boys help out!!  And, Jordan did most of the clean-up – BONUS!!!

Happy Tuesday!!  Merry Christmas Eve!!

Trying to Keep it Classy

Today’s 44 was just a hodge-podge of moves combined to make a challenging 44!!  I used my agility ladder –

I forget about this when I'm not using it everyday!
I forget about this when I’m not using it everyday!

I jumped back to a plank with my feet in the middle 2 rungs – jacked my feet out to the outside rungs then back in to the middle – jumped into a squat (sort of squat and not sure why I kept checking my butt out) and repeated!

This move worked my entire body and got my heart rate way up – perfect 44!!!

On tap with Insanity the Asylum vol. 2 today – Back and 6-Pack (I hope it works!!).  This workout was only 40 minutes and, like the name implies, full of moves for the back and abs – complete core work today!!!  The funny (not in a HaHa kind of way!) thing is we did moves similar to the one I used for my 44 just without the ladder – good times!!

We all know that I’m not elegant at all!!!

prime example of the opposite of elegance

And, I already showed you my house which is festive but will never be elegant (just very lived in!!).

But – over at the Governor’s Row House (our event venue) I have been working on putting up some Christmas decorations and trying to keep it simple and classy.  It’s a huge learning curve!!!

The previous owner had a few things in the basement and then I’ve added quite a few more – not sure how classy it is but it’s starting to look Christmasy!!!

front room - mantel
front room – mantel

I just put some small ornaments in glass jars to add color on the mantel.  And, I found an old tree that had some colored lights – I added a few clear to fill in the gaps – for the front window.

not sure why this is so dark?

The staircase is pretty by itself but I wound some garland around the rail and put a few splashes of red along the way.

In the front hall I removed a couple of chairs and put a couple of cute little lighted trees.

front hall

There is another fireplace in the room with the bar –

The ball room is fun – I put up 2 unique trees  I found downstairs, added a couple of tree skirts and am in the process of hanging lights around the top of the room.

So, hopefully even though I don’t do elegant, it is festive without being tacky!!!

Now, I’m off to climb up and down a ladder a couple hundred times to finish lighting the ball room and then I have to clean the place to get ready for tomorrow night’s event!!

Happy Thursday!

A Fun Competition

Today’s 44 was a single leg plank with a quarter turn to switch legs.  (Basically it was just a way to stay in plank for a long time!!!)

I counted each turn as 1 rep so technically I only did 22 planks with each leg!!!

And, Stacy and I are fixing to head out for another freezing cold 8 mile run!!!  (21 degrees)  I don’t know how some of y’all do this every day – the cold is miserable!!!

Yesterday as part of our Thanksgiving feast – we did 2 turkeys.  Chris did one in the turkey fryer and I roasted one.

one fried - one roasted
one fried – one roasted

The fried turkey is one the left and the roasted turkey on the right.  I told everyone they had to vote for their favorite because everything should be a competition!!!  (pretty sure I won – at least in my mind!!!)  It might have been a tie because turkey is turkey!!!

OK – no more stalling – out to the arctic!!!

Happy Friday!!
