This was a nice move – you can tell in the video that I had to work hard to stay level and not let my butt come up too much.
I also taught Boot Camp again – we did a repeat from earlier in the summer! Today we did the 5-4-3-2-1 workout. This workout has lots of moving squats and walking lunges plus some running – perfect for helping get rid of the residual soreness (and pain!) in my quads. I think it actually helped because I can almost run up and down the stairs again!!!
Just for Fun Friday:
Sometimes this just happensI love this!!!
many people that I know – Love to hear people laugh!
I say this a lot these day!Yep!!Every Single Time!!!One of those things that can’t be helped!Sometimes this is just how it is!HaHa!!
I’ve always wondered who really needs the directions!Maybe…..This makes me laugh because it’s true and I have even done it myself!!Yes – more and more often!!Is this a problem?!Ever happened to you?
Today’s 43 was another move from Nellie at Brooklyn Active Mama. This was last week’s Wednesday Workout – the dumbbell jackknife. A regular jackknife is a hard move for me and adding the dumbbell just made it crazy!!!
start
From the start position – fold your hands and legs together in the middle.
fold up
I only used a 5 pound dumbbell and even with that I struggled to finish all 43. This move could definitely be done very effectively without a weight!!!
Today was Boot Camp!!! However, we did it in the garage because it had been storming and I didn’t want to take a chance with lightening. It was like being back in Florida because it was so muggy!!! Today we did the resistance band boot camp – I figured it had been awhile on the boot camp thing so we eased back in with more toning and just a few cardio bursts!
I also did my 2nd round of the weekly challenge with Taylor. This week is Tabata and I like it but the tuck jumps were brutal after my 12 miles of speed work yesterday!!! I was happy to improve my reps on all of the moves -hopefully I can still improve when I do round #3!!
Yesterday I took Jordan for his well-check. We had to rush to get there because I picked him and a friend up at 10:00 from Band Camp, dropped the friend at his house and was supposed to be at the DR’s office by 10:15 for a 10:30 appointment. Well, we made it but….
Then we sat and waited and waited and waited! We watched other people come in, check in, get called back, check out and leave. Finally at about 11:15 (45 minutes past our appointment), I went up to the desk and nicely (I was still trying to be pleasant) asked how far behind our DR was running.
The ladies at the desk were a bit rude in their response and said she was just running a little behind – DUH!!!! I said, I realized she was behind (she is always behind but this was getting excessive) I just wondered how much longer.
I actually got a response similar to the one above because they didn’t want to deal with me. Jordan and I continued to wait and finally at 11:55 (1 hour and 25 minutes late) the nurse came out to get us.
I said something about how far behind they were and asked how much longer we were going to have to wait in the little room – she said it would be awhile and that they had “had a morning.” I told her we would wait about 5 minutes and then we were done! I also said that when they are running that far behind they really should let people with appointments know what’s going on – she said they would never do that!!!
The nurse actually got quite snippy with me and said that if patients knew they were behind and then came late it would throw everything off. Basically she told me that my time was not nearly as important as their time!!!
The only reason we haven’t switched doctors (we have always had to wait – but yesterday was excessive – 2 hours for a visit that took less than 15 minutes!!) is because I really like our DR (when we finally get in to see her). She is very personable and knowledgeable.
However, yesterday might have been the last straw. The fact that I tried to be very polite in asking “how much longer” and both the desk people and the nurse were extremely rude after we were the ones who had been waiting FOREVER did not go over well with me!!!
What are your thoughts? How long after a scheduled appointment are you willing to wait? Would you switch DRs if your’s was always running behind?
Today for my 43 I did a move that worked my entire body!! I used my stability ball and a pair of 12 pound dumbbells and did a squat with a bicep curl to a shoulder press. Here are the steps:
start
From the starting position, the right leg will squat while the left leg pushes the ball out to the side.
squat
Stand while pulling left leg back in to body – curl weights and press overhead.
stand & press
By adding the side leg movement, I was able to get my heart rate up while working on my balance (always good for the core!).
Of course, I couldn’t let my left leg be left out!!!
left leg (side view)left leg – stand
2 sets of 43 – my shoulders were on fire by the time I finished all those presses!!!
Today was the 3rd and final day of the “Stronger by the Minute” workout this week. I’m enjoying this little 6 week challenge series with Taylor because the idea of repeating the same workout 3 times in a week and trying to improve each time is right up my alley!! I love the self-competition!!!
From the first time completing this week’s workout until today, I improved each time on all 3 circuits – 2 of the circuits I was able to improve by over a full round!!!
The third circuit consists of 4 different burpees (all HARD), with 5 reps of each – as many rounds as possible in 6 minutes. 6 minutes doesn’t seem like much until you spend the entire 6 minutes doing burpees!!!! Today I did 56 burpees in that time!!!
Most of the time when you see Jordan, you see his great smile!!!
My firstborn is fixing to be in high school (and he can drive!) and I could not be more proud of him!!! He is a young man who truly cares about everyone around him!!
Things like school talent shows cause him stress because he feels bad for the kids who perform that really aren’t that good. While his buddies or other kids in the audience are snickering he totally empathizes with the person on stage!! He is the same way when we watch any of the singing/talent shows at home – instead of laughing, he feels bad for them!
He goes out of his way to make sure that everyone around him is happy or content. If there are limited chairs somewhere, he is usually the first to offer his chair. When his friends are trying to decide what to do he is content to let them decide – he is agreeable to just about anything.
Even though he isn’t the guy trying to have his way all the time, he is very much his own person. If you know Jordan personally (or have read my blog for awhile) you know that Jordan wears all white every day!! His standard “uniform” consists of white Nike shorts and white Nike T-shirt (plus white Nikes). I just restocked (in a bigger size) his white wardrobe for next year – took numerous stores and some driving but well worth the time!!! I love the fact that he is unique and content to be different!!!
cleaning up
This summer, Jordan has pretty much taken over cleaning up after every meal. Not because we told him he has to – he just likes it!!! Pretty amazing!
I know that I’m a little biased but I think that Jordan is an incredible young man!! It is truly one of the biggest joys of my life to watch him grow up. I know these next 4 years are going to fly by and I intend to treasure every minute that I can with my sweet boy!!!
Today’s 43 was nice and easy!!! I worked my obliques with a side crunch.
startcrunch
You can tell that I didn’t even bother with shoes – trying to save time at 5:00am so that I could get ready to begin the long drive home!!!
Of course, I had to do 2 sets of 43 – one on each side!!!
Last Day!!
I’m pretty sure that we squeezed every minute out of this vacation that we could!! Now, all that is left is the drive home (22 hours!). Hopefully we can find the last 10 states we need to find all 50 state license plates!
During the past number of days we have all had a great time!! Some of the high-lights:
* Jordan & Hunter and the 2 Page boys logged approximately 150 hours of gaming on their phones/iPads/iPods
Game Time
* My grandpa went into the hospital the day we arrived in Florida. He had a heart attack and after an EKG, DRs said his heart is only operating at 15%. He won’t have surgery though – too risky at his age (98).
Poppa
* Chris had a weird allergic reaction – big red welts (like 3 inches in diameter) on both arms plus more on his torso. Thankfully, a trip to minor med, a prescription for a steroid of some sort and he is good as new!!
* Hunter got his first ever ear infection (at age 12!). Saturday he went under water, came up crying because his ear hurt so bad – another trip to the minor med, another prescription and no more swimming for him for the rest of the trip!
* The beach running is really hard on my Achilles!!
left Achilles is swollen and hurts
* I saw way too much crack on the beach. Not kidding, I saw one lady every single day who walked around in a tiny bikini that only covered about 1/2 her butt – not a good look EVER!!!
* Of course, no beach trip is complete without at least one good Speedo sighting –
yep – totally snapped a picture when he walked by!
* I managed to get 1 (and only 1) picture of all 4 of us the day we dressed up for Daryl’s retirement ceremony.
* There was plenty of time enjoying the beach!!
* Lots of beauty all around!
sunrisecool bridge over the bay
* We enjoyed lots of fun times with some great friends – the Keens who flew in at the beginning of our vacation and the Pages who live in Florida now!
* Our Florida vacation 2013 has been a truly great time full of lots of memories! With the driving (a total of 4 days) and 9 full days in Florida, this trip has been a long break!
* 2 days in the car and we will be more than ready to be back home and back to reality!!!
Where is your favorite vacation destination?
How long do you like to be on vacation?
I love moves like this because not only am I working my biceps but also my entire core so it is a double bonus!!
And since this is our last day here in Florida, I took advantage of the beach for another hot, steamy run!! 4 miles – 32:33 + 0.5 miles cool down – I actually ran the last 2 miles much faster than the first 2 but I was really having to work hard – the humidity just sucks the energy out of me!!!
Today is our last day before we start the LONG drive home and I plan to enjoy every second of it!!! For me that means plenty of time on the beach doing my favorite thing:
For the boys, it probably means more time hanging out with their buddies (the Page boys) playing games on their phones/iPads:
really?
Notice how Chris is right there in the mix with them?! The other day I walked in from the beach and the little video below is what I saw! Crazy!!
