A Gift to Myself

Today’s 44 (kind-of weird to type that after so many days at 43!) was all about the core plus a little bonus hip flexor work!  I used my core ball –

Core balland did a scissors move.  The ball was under my hips to make the move a little more challenging (mostly because I kept rolling around!!).

I also taught Garage Boot Camp today.  I told the ladies last week that today would be a circuit and that way if I wasn’t ready to work out I could kind-of take it easy.  Well, we did the Circuit Boot Camp as planned but it is really hard for me to stand around when there is a workout opportunity so I did the workout, too!

This workout has 18 stations and the first round we did 1 minute of work with 10 seconds to switch.  The 2nd round we dropped down to 40 seconds (mostly because of time constraints!).  I’m happy that I did it but I can tell that my body is tired and worn down – it wasn’t nearly as fun as most workouts are.

Screen shot 2013-09-17 at 7.08.48 AMYesterday I gave myself one of the best gifts ever – the gift of

TIME
TIME

Yep – time to be a complete and total BUM!!!

Screen shot 2013-09-17 at 7.10.17 AM

But, the best part of the gift – it was completely guilt free!!!

Screen shot 2013-09-17 at 7.11.14 AMIt is rare for me to let myself have a whole day to just sit/lay around with my laptop and reality TV and not feel guilty but yesterday I did it with no problem and loved every single second of it!!!

Today there is a small part of me that is feeling bad because of all the things that I need to do but I’m telling myself that it was a gift to be enjoyed and not regretted so that is what I’m going to do!!!

Do you ever give yourself the gift of TIME to do whatever you want GUILT-FREE?

Thank you all for the kind words on the 44 miles and the birthday wishes – it really was a great day!!

Happy Tuesday!

Kim

It’s Really Going to Happen!!!

Today for my 43 I went with another move from Nellie @ Brooklyn Active Mama.  Her Wednesday workouts always are a great source of inspiration for me and yesterday’s move was a good one – Side-to-Side Plies.  I changed it up a little – I added a weight (20 pound kettle bell) and I lifted my knees out to the  side instead of across my body.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqwi-wwvKpk’]

This was a good move – fairly short even for 43 and very effective!  BTW – I counted a right knee and a left knee as 1 rep.

Today was Garage Boot Camp – I thought it would be cooler since it had been raining but I was WRONG!!!  It was muggy!  Oh well, we still had fun.  We did the Tone & Hold workout.  I like this one because once you finish working a particular muscle group (to exhaustion!) you are done with it and don’t repeat any of the same moves!!!

Yesterday morning when I drove Hunter to school we were talking about my Daily 43s and the fact that I have almost achieved my goal of completing a 43 every day for a year and blogging every day!

Screen shot 2013-09-12 at 5.50.54 AM
Hunter said, “You haven’t made it yet.  A lot could happen and you might not get the next 4 days.”

Screen shot 2013-09-12 at 5.48.21 AM

What?!   Has he not met me?!

I’m not sure what he thinks is going to keep me from succeeding – I told him that I did a 43 the day after I had surgery, on all the holidays, on vacation, when I had to take rush trips to TX for illness or death – nothing has kept me from getting in a 43 yet so why would he think that the next few days would be any different?!  Silly!!

Screen shot 2013-09-12 at 5.47.25 AM

He seemed to think that Friday might trick me up!!!  I guess I will just have to show him that even Friday the 13th isn’t going to stop me!!!Screen shot 2013-09-12 at 5.49.32 AM

I’m actually down to just 3 more days – Friday, Saturday and Sunday – and I will have 365 days of 43s!!!!

I have enjoyed the challenge of a daily activity so much that I’m planning another year of it.  Monday I will start my daily 44s!!!!  (starting with 44 miles)

So, even if Hunter has some doubts, I know that I’m going to make my goal and start off strong for the next year!!!

What is your current goal?

Happy Thursday!!

Tuesday Tidbits

Today’s 43 was one of those that I knew was going to be hard from the first rep!!!  I used a step (8″) and did an incline push-up then bear crawled over it and did a decline push-up and bear crawled back to the start.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyiJkLtnHcw’]

As a side note – my shirt/short combo are making my butt look exceptionally big today!!! Nice!

Today was a hot, muggy Garage Boot Camp – these 100+ days are keeping it hot all night and into the morning!!  We did a repeat workout from last week – the 25 in 1 workout.  This is a series of 8 moves, 1 minute to get 25 reps of each.  Some of the moves it is easy to get 25 and have a little breather but I set it up so that the last 4 are pretty much straight through!!!  We completed 4 rounds so we got 100 reps of each move:

  • squat jacks
  • plank jacks
  • jumping lunges
  • push-ups
  • front kick right/back kick left (front/back = 1)
  • toe touch sit-ups
  • front kick left/back kick right
  • hurpees (burpees without a push-up)

This is a fun way to work your entire body and keep your heart rate up!

So, I was planning to do a fun post about all of the great bloggers I’ve met this year but since I was a bum last night and this morning I’m rushing to hit publish, I’m going to save it for later this week!!!

Instead I just have some random thoughts today!!

I finally uploaded some of the band picture from Friday night – Jordan - band

It was so nice that Jordan was on the end – made it easier to get a few pictures!!!

Tonight, Hunter has his 2nd practice for the Youth Philharmonic!!!  I’m going to try to make sure that he isn’t late this week.  Last week, I didn’t allow enough time and he was a few minutes late – on the way inside he said, “I don’t want to draw attention to myself.”  Umm….have you seen yourself?

pretty sure the yellow stands out
pretty sure the yellow stands out

Since he wears highlighter yellow almost every day he sort of stands out in a crowd – silly boy!!!

My dining room table is finally cleared off – yesterday’s top project was to get the clutter under control!!!

This morning is hair day – I think I’m ready for another change just not sure what I want to do!!!

And – this afternoon is looking really good for………..

a little bit of sun time!!
a little bit of sun time!!

Feel free to share some tidbits from your day!

Happy Tuesday!

Positive Patty Triumphs over Debbie Downer!!!

Today’s 43 was a fun plank challenge!!  I did alternating bicep curls while in plank.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKDikUNBtb8′]

I kept thinking that I would take a quick stretch break at some point but I made it through all 43 (with each arm!) before I had to stop – I should have timed it so I would know how long my plank was!

Today for Garage Boot Camp, we did 100s Boot Camp (10 exercise x 10 reps each) – we completed 8 rounds today (plus warm-up and cool-down) which is 80 of each exercise!!

Screen shot 2013-09-05 at 6.57.12 AMI needed a sign like that all day yesterday!!!  After my dismal run, things pretty much went downhill for the better part of the day!

Screen shot 2013-09-05 at 6.57.26 AM

Those faces pretty much represented my day – notice how there are very few smiles!!!

BUT – today is a new day and Screen shot 2013-09-05 at 5.46.59 AMis gone!!!  She is not my favorite person to “live” with so I was not sad to kick her to the curb.

Today is all about Screen shot 2013-09-05 at 5.46.25 AM

I think that this is a much better choice and will make for a far nice day for me and those around me.

Thank all of y’all who were so encouraging and gave me some great ideas to use to push myself  on my upcoming run!!!

And, I can’t even tell you how many wonderful, positive, perfectly timed blog posts I read yesterday that seemed written just for me (I know they weren’t but they were helpful when I needed it!!).

Happy Thursday – I hope your day is full of Positive Pattys and no Debbie Downers!!!!

Spiders & Spider Webs

Today for my 43 I did a modified version of last week’s failed attempt at wall climbs.  I did push-ups with my feet on the wall and my body making a 90 degree angle (sort-of!).  This move is one that I got from Amanda @ RunToTheFinish.  She has this really cool Wallbanger Workout and this is one of the moves she did in it.

Here is a failed attempt at making a demo!  This was after I had already complete my 43 and my arms were toast!!

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zgy5RyXXcHQ’]

Next attempt – a tiny bit better and as good as it’s gonna get!

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNlCDuB3xM0′]

I think that 8 was the most reps I did at a time.  I had to keep resetting my feet on the wall – I’m still counting it because I did all 43 reps, just with a few short reset breaks!!!

Today was another  episode of Garage Boot Camp – it is usually so much hotter and stickier when we work out in the garage than when we are outside (no breeze!!!).  Oh well, a little bucket of sweat isn’t a bad thing!!!  This morning actually wasn’t as sticky as last week – a little on the cool side –  pretty nice workout conditions.

I tried a new workout today – it is loosely based on a workout  from  Taylor @ Lifting Revolution – the Puma Pounce workout.  I made some changes to turn it into a 45 minute boot camp that I felt like my group of boot campers could handle!!!

We did a 25 Rep/Minute Workout.  Fun times – the faster you complete the reps, the more rest you get (whatever is left in the minute) before starting the next move!!  I had a series of 8 moves (8 total minutes) and we went did 3 rounds.

Do you love or hate spiders?

Screen shot 2013-09-02 at 8.57.50 PMI think that spiders are fascinating creatures!!!  And webs are amazing works of art.

Last night we actually had a spider outside our kitchen slider that was in the process of spinning her web.  I wanted to video the process without the glare from the glass so I tried to go outside without disrupting her.  Didn’t work very well!

The spider felt the movement of the door on her web and stopped working.  I took a short video but she didn’t move at all during that time (mostly my video is just of Hunter on the inside telling me to leave her alone!) and as soon as I opened the door again to go in, she climbed all the way to the top of her web.

Screen shot 2013-09-02 at 8.58.03 PM

Watching the spider react to an interruption in her work made me think about how I deal with little interruptions.  Sometimes I react just like the spider – I leave my work and run into a corner and refuse to continue until all of the distractions are gone.

I need to learn to deal with the distraction in a timely way and then carry on with my work no matter how many minor interruptions I encounter along the way.

Are you like a spider or can you work through any type of interruption?

Happy Tuesday!!  (even though it feels like Monday to me!)
