Games, Movies, Snacks and Plenty of Relaxing!!

Today I used my BOSU for the 44 and did jumping lunges!  I counted a right and a left lunge as 1 rep.

Clearly my memory is slipping after several days of no routine because I sort-of forgot that I just did a lunge move yesterday!  Oh, well – they were totally different!

This past week has been full of fun – doing things that we don’t do very often!!!

We have played games – all 4 of us!!!  We just got Logo Party  –

Screen Shot 2013-12-28 at 9.08.43 AMthis week and we’ve already been through over half the cards!  We also tried –

Screen Shot 2013-12-28 at 9.10.27 AMThis game is fun but I think it will be more fun at our New Year’s Eve party with a group of adults!!!

The boys have actually had time to play the X-Box and have enjoyed that since they hardly played during the fall with school and other activities keeping them busy.

Chris and I have watched a few movies in the afternoon (so much better than night-time movies since I get tired at night!!).

we rarely go to the theater!!

One day we watched The Way Way Back –

Screen Shot 2013-12-28 at 9.13.23 AMIt was really a cute movie!  It made me cry a little at the end but I enjoyed it.  (thanks for recommending it, Shashi!!)

And, to show you how far behind we are on movies, yesterday we watched –

Screen Shot 2013-12-28 at 9.17.10 AMI liked this one much better than the 2nd one!!!

I haven’t cooked since Tuesday when I did all of the prep work for our open house on Christmas Day – we have had left-overs and snacks!!!

We have all enjoyed sleeping in (some more than others – Hunter and Jordan!!!).

Over-all this past week has been the perfect mix of activity, get-togethers and plenty of down time so that we start the new year refreshed and ready to go again!!!

Happy Saturday  – I hope it is fun and relaxing in your world!!!

Memory – Can you Remember what you Forgot?

I used my BOSU for the 44 again (such a fun piece of equipment!!).  Today’s move was all about balance!!!  I did jump squats.

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym22a52AGWE’]

Just to say – the video was right after I finished running 10 miles and Jordan said I only got one chance – pretty shaky on those jumps!!!  (That’s why I always do my 44 before the rest of my workout – more strength then!!)

So, the rest of the workout was running – 1.5% incline – 8 miles in 59:55 + 2 more miles at a nice easy pace.  It’s been awhile since I’ve put in that many miles so it was nice to get a long run today!!!

Screen shot 2013-11-07 at 7.07.45 AMDo you have a good memory?

I used to think I did – I never needed a grocery list, I could rattle off phone numbers, when I taught I knew all of the my student’s names (usually 100+) by the 2nd day.

Now it’s a completely different story!!!  When I use something up in the kitchen I can’t even remember to write it on the list (which I have to have!!!).

One day I called someone and ended up leaving a message for them to call me back – I said the first 3  numbers of my phone # and went completely blank on the rest!!!  Duh….

Screen shot 2013-11-07 at 7.08.07 AMWhen the boys ask me about doing something later in the day or for the next day I usually tell them sure but they will need to remind me!  (They don’t get that at all!!!)

I know that there are tricks for helping your memory but I can’t even remember what they are!!!

Screen shot 2013-11-07 at 7.09.13 AMYep – that’s pretty much how I feel most of the time.  I have to write everything down (in my calendar!) or there is very little chance that I will remember.

I guess I better never misplace my calendar because I would never remember where I put it!!!

Do you struggle to remember simple things?  Does it bug you?

I have to be honest – it causes me stress – good thing the stress doesn’t last long since I can’t remember what it is that’s bothering me!!!

Happy Thursday!

Exercise Is NOT One Size Fits All

Today’s 44 was fun!!!  Kristen @ Stuft Mama demoed this super cool move yesterday and I knew that I had to give it a try.  It is called – The Monkey.

Basically it is a cross body mountain climber using the

BOSU
BOSU

See why I had to try it?!

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxBG2OW98hs’]

You can do this move without a BOSU if you don’t have one available.

Since I already had my BOSU out I decided to do a workout with it – I did BOSU Total Body Conditioning.  It is a fun workout that mixes cardio, strength moves, balance training and core work.  The biggest downside – it was only about 30 minutes.

So, I also did Les Mills Pump – Combat.  This has been one of my favorite workouts from the very first time I tried it.  It is 45 minutes worth of non-stop cardio in the form of kicking and punching.  The time flies by and I always feel like I’ve gotten a great workout.

Screen shot 2013-11-06 at 6.56.01 AMI’ve never really understood the concept of “one size fits all.”  How is it even possible when we are all so different?!?!

I think that with exercise we really have to steer away from the idea that one size fits all.

Screen shot 2013-11-06 at 6.56.22 AMEveryone needs to figure out what works for them and not do something just because it seems to be what everyone else is doing.

For the past few months I’ve tried a bit of an experiment with my working out and it hasn’t worked well for me.  For a long time I have read about and observed many people who thrive on minimal amounts of time for working out.

Screen shot 2013-11-06 at 7.01.31 AMWorkouts like the 7 minute workout are everywhere these days!!!  And, I truly love that type of workout!!!

However, for me, it isn’t enough!!!

This fall I  made a conscious effort to try and cut down on my workout time – most days I have only spent 40-45 minutes total working out instead of the 1-2 hours that I used to spend.

Screen shot 2013-11-06 at 7.08.38 AM

I’ve realized that I actually feel better when I workout longer – it may be all psychological and I’m totally OK with that.

So, I tried something and figured out that it was not a fit for me!!

Have you tried things that seem to be the “norm” and realized they weren’t for you?
Do you like short workouts or longer sessions?

Happy Wednesday!!!

Being a Landlord is not for the Weak

Today’s 44 is one that Tamara (Fitknitchick) demoed the other day – a BOSU deck squat.  (Check out her site because her video is great – lots of tips on the proper way to perform this move.)

My video is not nearly as informative – just me, my BOSU, and a dumbbell (15 pounds).

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qA3UA7hbZ0′]

This was a fun move – hard for sure!!!  Definitely going to do this one again and again!!

I also got in a short run today (4 miles 24:19) plus another 1.5 miles nice and easy!!

Earlier this week I shared about the scare I had when one of our tenants decided to use the venue as her moving out route.  Yesterday I went over to make sure that she had moved out and pick up her keys (she didn’t return them – BIG SHOCK!!!).  Good thing I’m friends with a locksmith now!!!

Here are some pictures of the apartment and the way she left it – I’m sad that there is no way to share the STENCH through the internet – the smell about sent me over the edge – a mix of urine,  a cat litter box that hadn’t been emptied in a good year, body odor, garbage  and shit (literally!).

So much stuff everywhere – hard to believe that she actually moved out.

And….the final picture (brace yourself!!) –

NO WORDS!!
NO WORDS!!

Yep – that is what you would not except to find in a place where real people live.  Just seeing the picture is grossing me out since I saw (and smelled) it in person.

Who knew that being a landlord would be so much fun?!  I’m hoping that once we get the place cleaned up and ready to rent again we will find someone as great as our other new tenant!!!

Happy Saturday!!

Kim

Time for a Change!

Today for my 44 I used my favorite piece of equipment –

BOSU

I put my head on the BOSU and did a single leg hip lift.

It’s a small lift (as you can tell) but very effective.   My left hip was dying by the time I finished 44 and then I had to switch legs and repeat!!

I was definitely ready to be done with that second set!!!  Funny that my shoes have reflective parts and they always show the flash!!!

I’ve decided that my posts will continue to start with my daily 44 because that really is the reason I started blogging (although it was for a daily 43!!).

But…..I am going to quit posting about the rest of my workouts every day.  I know all y’all are probably thinking – FINALLY!!!

Don’t get to excited – there will still be some days that I talk about my run from the day or about a particular DVD I did.  And some days I might be really excited about a new boot camp workout and feel the need to share it.

I just won’t be sharing all of my workouts every day – I have started transitioning away from that the past month or so but I’m ready to make the change.

And with that major announcement – I’m off early to clean our venue – Friday wedding  and now a Saturday wedding  mean I have to bust tail to get it turned around!!!

Happy Saturday!!!

Kim
