I am a 44 year old wife, mom and athlete. I started running in high school and have loved it ever since. As I got older, I had to stop running every day so I added in weight training and all sorts of fun work-outs like Insanity, P90X and Turbo Fire. I'm a certified personal trainer and I love all aspects of fitness.
I love all of the ingredients and mix of flavors in this dish – just remember, don’t hold back on the seasoning!!!
not shown – salt, pepper, dried basil, oregano and garlic powder
Ingredients: 1 bag of spinach
1/2 c chicken broth
chicken – I used 8 chicken tenders but you could use breast or even things if you like
salt, pepper, garlic powder and oregano to taste
dried basil (next time I will use fresh)
4 Roma tomatoes, chopped
green onions, chopped (I used 5)
Feta cheese
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Lightly spray pan with cooking spray.
Put spinach in pan.
looks like a ton of spinach!
Pour chicken broth over spinach. Top with chicken and season liberally!
seasoned and ready to go
Sprinkle tomatoes and green onions over chicken.
love all the color!
Cover tightly with foil and cook about 25 minutes. Add cheese and cook 10-15 more minutes depending on the size of your chicken.
Love Feta with tomatoes!
The boys liked this a lot – even with Chris gone we ate all but 1 piece of chicken! (Teen age boys love food!)
I think this will be something we have again (it is rare for me to make the same thing more than once) – I think there are lots of ways you could change this up just a bit which I love to do when I cook.
Today’s 44 was a row with a band. Loop the band around your feet and sit back in a semi-reclined position –
the set-up of the bandReadyRow
On the row, you really squeeze your shoulder blades together to feel the move. By reclining a little, you can add in some core work – always a bonus!
I also got in a nice long run!! I did 11 miles (88:07) + a nice easy cool down mile. Since this week is spring break I have a little extra time in the mornings so I’m going to try and get several long runs!
I think that everything in life is constantly changing or evolving otherwise it becomes stagnant.
Carla Binberg (the former MizFit) has been doing a series on change the past few weeks which has really resonated with me. Change can be a great thing and it can keep us moving forward in our lives and toward our goals.
Lately I have alluded to the fact that I need to make some changes in regards to my blog. I wrote about how hard decisions can be and then yesterday I talked about staying true to my “why.” I have also been really focusing on the THINK acronym and I know that a lot of what I post isn’t helpful, inspiring or necessary!!!
The one thing I know is that I have way to many blog friends (and the list has grown since that September post!!!) to walk away from my little space.
So after a LOT of thought I have decided it is time for a change over here!
I have posted 547 consecutive days and loved almost every minute of it!! However, I’ve decided that it is time for me to back off and I am going to go to a lighter posting schedule (probably 3 week days but it might be 4 some weeks!) with a Daily 44 recap of the week on the weekend. It is odd for me to not start every post with my daily move and I might continue that at least for awhile – small changes might be easier!!!
I think/hope that by cutting down on posts I will be able to focus more on having quality posts and also read and comment on other blogs the way I really want to!!!
I figure this will either take away some stress in my life or I will have major withdrawals from my daily blogging and then I will just How has you blog evolved since you started blogging? Was it hard or easy to make changes?
Today’s 44 was a great one to get my heart rate up quickly!!! I did a squat thrust with 4 plank jacks. Instead of standing in between each rep, I just jumped my knees in and back out because I wanted this to be a shoulder burner!!!
This isn’t quite as hard as burpees but pretty close!!!
I started blogging exactly 1.5 years ago today.
365 days of Daily 43s and 182 days of Daily 44s = 547 consecutive days of a daily move and writing a blog post.
When I first started blogging, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing! I just knew that I wanted to use my blog to document my daily moves!!!
The first month or two that I blogged, all I wrote about was the exercise of the day and maybe a line or two about something else.
Slowly, I realized that I could do more than just write about whatever “daily” move I completed and I started to make this space more personal. I also started following more and more blogs and over time developed actual relationships with some incredible bloggers!!
I think that the blogging community is what keeps me logging in to my little blog space every single day!!! I love reading other blogs and sharing our lives through comments back and forth!!!
Lately, I have been struggling to read and comment as much as I want to while keeping up with my blog and my actual daily life! I don’t want to compromise the reason behind my blog because I am still very much committed to doing 44 reps of whatever daily move I pick.
I have been trying to figure out how to customize my blog without compromising my intent behind blogging. My goal has never been to make money from this or to have the most views or anything other than just to be me. The online friendships were something that I didn’t even know would happen and I feel blessed beyond measure to have “met” so many great people.
I think I have a plan for my blog going forward that will help cut down on some of my stress (I don’t want blogging to be a source of stress) and still allow me to stay true to why I started this in the first place.
I think ultimately, it is about being true to ourselves (in every aspect of our lives) and that is what I want to do!!!
Today’s 44 was a great move but it was HARD!!! I did an elevated plank with a KettleBell row.
ready44 rows on the right44 rows on the left
Just holding the one arm plank was a challenge and then rowing with a 20 pound KettleBell made it really hard!!!
Hunter wanted to try10 on the right and then he was done!
Great – now Hunter is going to be off balance!!! Oh, well, he had already done 50 push-ups so he was tired!!!
I also ran today. The Saturday challenge for #HappyFitMarch is to run a mile and compare it to the previous Saturday’s times. I have been counting my first mile the past few weeks but I think that the next 2 weeks I will count my last miles since I prefer to start out slower and then speed up.
Today I did the same thing that I did last Saturday – timed my first mile out of a 10K.
Saturday 3-15-14
Last Saturday’s times –
Saturday 3-8-14
Not much different but…..
Making decisions is sometimes hard. I’m usually a fairly decisive person and don’t tend to dink around with things. However, sometimes I have a difficult time with things that seem like they should be no big deal.
I feel like I go back and forth in my mind over something that in the big picture doesn’t even make that much difference.
But then I always go back to the fact that even small decisions can have a big impact later on down the road.
I think that for me the little things that seem inconsequential can turn into a big deal.
Are you a decisive person or do you go round and round when making decisions?
Today was another day that I decided to combine the challenge for #happyfitmarch with my 44. The challenge today was to do single leg squats for a minute.
I decided to make it more “fun” by doing the squats on a small wobble ball –
right – 34 in one minute
After doing 44 total on this side, I switched legs and did some more!!!
left leg – 27 in 1 minute
I didn’t get as many in a minute on my left side because my balance isn’t as good on that side!! But I still completed the challenge and my 44.
I was going to run today for the 5th day in a row but decided to wait until tomorrow so I can get in a longer run!!
Instead I did Turbo Fire – Upper 20 and Lower 20. These are toning workouts using bands and they are very effective!! The lower one especially had my hips burning!!!
Remember the song – Things That Make You Go Hmmm…?
Well, I have some things that make me go Hmmm…. today!
* I got a pedicure 2 weeks ago today for our fancy night out.
fancy
Usually when I get a pedi, it lasts for 3-4 weeks (and that is when I’m walking around in sand at the swim beach!!). 2 weeks into this one and I have chipping –
Hmmmmm…..
* Jordan’s group for the trip to Cali, landed about 6 hours after the first group (that was the schedule all along). AND, they leave about 6 hours before that same first group on Monday morning so they are losing 12 hours in CA that some of the other groups get. Hmmmm…..
* Remember I gave up wine and other cocktails for Lent? Well, I thought that cutting out happy hour would help me shed a bit in my middle but instead I’ve been eating about 20x more candy than normal!!!
Oops!!! Hmmm……
* On Wednesday I had a 2nd meeting that a lady had requested with me (she wants to show me what all she does – decorating, catering, event planning…). She set the time (via email –
Well, I waited and waited on Wednesday – NO SHOW!!! Yesterday (Thursday) at 12:25 she called me and said, “I thought we had a 12:30 meeting.”
A. It isn’t even 12:30 yet!!!
B. THE MEETING WAS YESTERDAY AND YOU MISSED IT!!!
Hmmmm…….And then she wanted to reschedule! Really??? Hmmm…..
* I think that this post is qualifying as an epic fail as far as my plan to implement more of this –
